I would like to customize the dimensions of a part in inventor after importing from autocad 2011.
I could able to see only the option available using fx parameters, when a part is modeled scratch from sketch.
If there is an interface between various products, then this option is useful to model it easily.
I am trying to change the materials that are assigned to a STEP file I imported to a different "default" so I can then change a few of the surfaces individually. Is there a way to change the entire part's materials to one material that I select? When I try only one "base" highlights at a time and I can't select the entire part at one time. I am using AutoDesk Inventor 2011 Professional.

I'm using Inventor PRO 2012 64-bit.
I've occasionally run into a problem where when I right-click at the root of the browser tree and select iProperties, the dialog will not show. The application acts as if the dialog is active (in particular, Windows makes an annoying ding every time I try to click somewhere on the Inventor UI) but I cannot see it. If I recall correctly, this only affected some files, and I could usually get around it by opening the dialog from the main menu rather than from the browser.
Now I am experiencing something similar with the Derived Part dialog. After I select a part file to derive from, the dialog for selecting individual elements never actually appears on the screen, but Inventor seems to think it's there, as the part I am deriving from is displayed in the viewport and the browser tree is locked out. Again, it seems as if the dialog is active but invisible: If I press Enter, I get a derived part, and if I press Escape, the preview disappears and nothing new is put in the browser. Of course, I can't choose which elements of the base part I want to derive from. Right-clicking the derived part entry in the browser and selecting "Edit derived part" produces the same result -- evidently, an invisible dialog box.
I am running Inventor 2011 SP2.
I have an assembly of pallet racking, it is one complete frame which can be modified in all the desired ways by the ilogic i have in place. I wish to be able to put this frame into a new assembly but have different dimensions for each frame. I used to do this by copying all the files to a new folder so that each frame had its own parts. This has stopped working and now once one frame is altered all the other frames change to rather than having there own dimensions.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI´m trying to measure the base dimensions of simple geometric shapes. I started out with plates since they are easy to measure as long as they sit in 90°, 180° and 270° positions relative to the origin. Then Measure.ExtentsLength, Measure.ExtentsWidth and Measure.ExtentsHeight will give me the base dimensions of a plate.
However, if the plate sits abitrary relative to origin this will obviously fail, since Measure.Extents only measures in x,y,z
Is there any way how I get positions of the geometry that is in the part, like corners surfaces on the B-REP so I can calculate the dimensions properly for a plate. I´m not sure if this is possible with iLogic. I have a strong suspicion VB.net would be needed for this.
Another problem I have is that derived parts don´t get triggered to run a script when I change the geometry in the Multibody Part and the rule is set to run by any modelgeometry change.
I'm looking for an easy way to extract the information of max box dimensions (X, Y, Z).
When we want to send one part, or assembly all over the world, we need those dimension. I think, it is something that inventor already have it but not in an easy way like a phisical propertie that you can include in your BOM. Is this something for autodesk to implement?
When I try to scale a part in Autodesk Inventor Fusion, it asks to select a solid body, and reference point, but there is no option to change the scaling type to nonuniform. How to do it? I have Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Inventor Fusion 2013.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm making a part and am adding features to it and using my existing sketch dimensions as my guide. The problem is that when there are sketch dimensions on the face of the part, they are difficult to read. I'm forever dragging these dims to the side in order to read them, it's just a bit annoying. I was wonering if there was a setting that made them show up as well as they do when the aren't sitting on the face of my parts. I've attached a .jpg of what I'm talking about. notice the dimension on the left side and the bottom.

Also, once the shrink is added I need to be able to make a split mold out of the part. How would I go about do that? I should be able to make a block; then cut the part out of the block. View 5 Replies View RelatedI am finally getting time to do some organizational cleanup and management with our templates and vault settings. Many of the things are items that I am altering for each drawing/model I make and I would like to make them "stick" for the company standards. Things like altering font size in the styles library, adding part dimensions to the parameters for the parts list, and creating a new content central library where our part numbers are already populated for the parts list and the structural shapes have datum planes in the middle rather than just at beginning and end.

The include all surfaces feature is check but still doesnt show all the surfaces. I just recently imported a IGES file as a soild part but i do not rememeber how i did it. Once I clicked on the IGES file to open and then click options. What do I fill out on the option dialog box that the IGES file imports as a solid part and shows all surfaces on my inventor drawings.

Each time we upgrade over the years it has been a simple task of saving the 2 files into the program file/autodesk folder however when we try to do this with LT 2013 it doesnt recognise the files. I am having an issue running AutoCAD LT 2011 on a Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. If I have orthographic dimensions on the drawing, AutoCAD crashes if I try to move, modify, or delete the dimensions. Recovery does not work. I am stuck with the dimensions once they are placed because if I touch them, the program crashes.
I do not know if this is important but I will include it anyway: this does not happen with older drawings that were created under older versions of AutoCAD LT. It only happens with ortho dimensions created in LT 2011.
I have applied all the latest patches, drivers for the video card, and even tried opening the drawings in 32-bit mode. Nothing seems to work.

I am trying to import a MIF file from Mapinfo into AutoCad Map 2011. Which is a data base of geotechnical locations with added log data for each point.
The data seems to come in ok (correct location) but some of the points don't have any object data associated with them. When I id the point and trace it back to the database (originally an .xls file that has been imported into Mapinfo for the translation purpose) there should be a whole lot of data associated with it. most of the points are coming in with data but there are random points with no data.
We have some clients that are using version 2011 and we are using 2014. The landxml we made for them was too big for them to import. My boss made a DEM GEOTIFF to send as it was much smaller.
The client has called me and asked me how the heck does he import the file as he as never worked with them. I have a computer with a 2012 installation, but it's corrupt, none of the MAP utilities work.

I am designing a RCC Dam and the shape of the dam is constant and will not change, but the dimensions of this shape are very likely to change depending upon hydraulic analysis.
I have written a program (irrelevant, but I am using MathCad 14) that performs a stability analysis of a RCC Dam (based on elevations from the hydraulic analysis) and then exports the dam dimensions and coordinates to Excel.
I am attempting to then take those coordinates (or dimensions) from Excel to create a 2-D dimensioned drawing of the Dam in AutoCAD.
I have successfully linked the Excel spreadsheet containing these coordinates and dimensions to AutoCad tables in my drawing, but I am having trouble getting AutoCAD to update my drawing as these tables update with different coordinates and dimensions.
I would like to have a drawing that is fully dimensioned (as the shape of the dam will not change), but that will update coordinates and dimensions as I pump out different dam dimensions from my stability analysis.
I typically as much as possible like to insert my dimensions into my drawing from my model.
I created holes in the model as a 1/4" tapped hole
Yet when I show the dimensions in the drawing they show the minor dimension.
How do I get the 1/4" to show? I have selected the feature and still get these results.
In the Default.ivb I have created a function that creates a new panel and adds some buttons in the panel.
I see the panel and the buttons, but nothing happens when I click on them.
The documentation says that in order to listen to the events of my buttons I should declare a "Private WithEvents ButDef As ButtonDefinition", but it when I try I get an error message "Only valid in object module"
Another question, still related to the events, I would expect to find a _StartUp event where I should run my function, but I can't find that event.
is there a way to lock the dimensions to aligned dimensions...or a key i could hold while dimensioning that would do that..
i have to dimensions a drawing where theres a lot of aligned dimensions to put and to do it manualy each time takes forever...

I would love to be able to customize Inventor 2013's user interface to make it look more like the older version of Inventor. You can do that with AutoCad Mechanical. You simply change the view to "AutoCad classis" and those annoying "panel bars" go away and you get a pull down screen.
