I am using inventor 2011 to make an assembly, and No matter wether I sketch off a face or a plane, I cannot get get my sketches to extrude, inventor wants to make cuts when there is nothing to cut. Not sure what I am doing wrong, becasue when I try doing the same thing on a new part it works just fine.
View 3 RepliesI have the following (somewhat philosophical) question: what is the concept of assembly sketches? As far as I can see (and what I use it for) is the following: an element of my design can be constructed from several parts, which are first machined with some margins, interfaces for welding, etc. Then they are mounted/welded/brazed together, and the final piece is constructed by post-machining the mounted (welded/brased/etc) assembly. Assembly sketches drive these features.
When I first got in contact with assembly sketches, I believed they can be used to positioning parts in the assembly: create a sketch, very easily and quickly draw lines/points/etc which serve as anchor points for the parts, and then constrain the parts to these lines/points/etc. But this does not work - whereas I would find it sometimes useful.
Is there anyway that i can disable visibilty for ALL of the sketches under an assembly in a Assembly Layout? I have multiple assemblies (sub -assemblies) that im putting together into one finale assembly and everytime i unhide a sub-assembly, ALL of the sketches in it apear visible so then i have to painstakenly go throught every sketch and hide it. It takes for ever!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a rule that turns off all work geometry and sketches of an assembly and all referenced parts and assemblies.
This rule is almost perfect.
When i run the rule. All sketches and work geometry are turned off. But sketches in sub assemblies remain visible in the top assembly. When i open the document of the sub assembly the sketches are off.
So what I see is a top assembly 'override' of sketch visibility inside sub assemblies
How can I turn off visibility of a sketch on a level higher?
I can't seem to get the "Solids" selection to become active in the assembly extrude dialog.Is there actually a way to control participants prior to creating the extrude feature?

When I'm making a sketch and I want to extrude it, I can only cut the sketch.. And if I chance the directin of the cut, there apears a error..
I can't extrude this piece. I know i have loops but i don't know where and how to fix them!

I am sure it has something to do with something fundamental I am doing wrong within the sketch, but I am not sure what.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI made a sketch. In order to make a hole in the middle of the "triangle", I had to create a tangent circle based on the triangle edges. And then make a new circle (to be the hole I need) and constrain it to the first tangent circle.
This way, if I change the size of the triangle, the hole I need (the inner one) will always stay in the middle of the triangle.
Anyway, when I try to extrude the different profiles of my sketch, something strange happens. As soon as I select the middle circle (not the inner one), 2 of the side outbreak's lose their extrusion.
Second question I have is why did my sketch (except for 2 blue lines) turn from blue to green after fixing loop problems?

See attached image file. I can't select just the profile sketch to cut extrude. It only selects the whole face (surface). I have this issue on (2) different workstations and on various parts along the way.

I'm using Autodesk Inventor 2014.
We have the following problem / bug and i was wondering if others can reproduce it.
(IV2013, SP1.1)
When adding a new sub-assembly to an existing ipn, the newly added assembly doesn't have the + sign to expand it. (see image)
Steps:
1. create a part. (anything will do) - Part1
2. make an assembly and add Part1 a few times. - Assembly1
3. make another assembly and add Assembly1 a couple of times. - Assembly2
4. create a presentation file with Assembly2, add a tweak for good measure. - Assembly2.ipn
5. Save the ipn. (and any other unsaved files)
6. now go back to Assembly2 and add another instance of Assembly1.
7. look at the presentation again, if it's the same as our situation there shouldn't be a + next to the newly added instance.
When I double click a part in an assembly it does not edit the part.
When I right click "edit" is greyed out.
How do I edit a part in an assembly.
It says i can exclude parts from the assembly, when i insert it as a derived part, but the exclude button is greyed in the insert derived part dialog box.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been building an assembly and suddenly I am unable to move parts according to their constraints. I can move them as soon as they are placed but as soon as I add one constraint it's as if they are glued in place. For example, when I line up two holes I can no longer rotate one part around the grounded component.
Have a turned off some functionality of the program?
I have created a multi-value parameter in a part and exported it. I then linked it in the assembly but I am unable to edit it. I tried using iLogic but it also does not alter the part. Please see the attached 3 jpegs.

I've just started working on a frame generator assembly I was modelling earlier this year; I can't seem to modify the base 3D sketch. The feature which looks like the original 3D sketch is now called the "Reference Skeleton" and I am unable to modify it at all.
I am working on a copy of the original part as I "save as" the whole master assembly when I was last working on the model. I don't know if this would have effected anything.
I am getting the error message 'Path curve is coplanar with or tangent to the plane of the profile curve.Unable to extrude the selected object.'
when I try an extrude this shape around this rectangular shape below.

I am not able to extrude closed polyline shapes. I get the following message:
Cannot create solid from open curve.
Cannot sweep or extrude non-planar objects.
Unable to extrude the selected object.
Other folks have opened my drawing – some can extrude, some get the same or similar message. I’ve tried re-building the shapes to extrude. It worked with one thing this morning and now it won’t extrude again.
i lost the media CD of the AutoCAD LT 2011, while i am trying to reinstall the AutoCAD LT software in my laptop unable to do so as the AutoDesk site doesnt have a link to download LT 2011, it has only the LT 2013 now.
where i can download the Lt 2011, i have the serial no and other details with me.
Also, I'm having a hard time completely constraining copy 2D sketches. What Inventor requires to constrain a 2D sketch?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhat instances is it necessary to combine 3d sketches with 2d sketches, I have used this combination a few times where I have to build rectangular frames then apply frame generator to the sketches to construct the frame members. I was told when I originally had training on Inventor 2013 that 3d sketches should be avoided where possible.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I select an object to move I am unable to snap to the grips of the object or any other object close or any intersections. I have double and triple checked my osnap settings. Also, If I select a circle to move I am unable to select the center of the circle through additional osnap settings. One last issue, If I select an object and do a copy with base point command, I am unable to select a definitive base point. No grips or intersections show up.
My co-workers are able to do these functions but I am not.

I am unable to access the program.
I started using Version 2008, 2009, 2010, 2010 and now 2011. This is the first time I have problems accessing the program.
I get not messages.
I've been making a model plane model in inventor 2012 from imported IGES geometry, and Realised that my sketches were not assigned to any part (and thus can't be lofted). Is there any way of moving the sketches to the newly created part without redrawing everything? I've tried dragging and dropping because it seemed to make sense, but alas, that had no success.

Quite often we cretae schematic line drawings for clients approval before creating full 3D models for production. Is it possible to achieve this in Inventor and maybe go on to use the sketches as a master filoe to drive the design? Or should I continue to get approval based in AutoCAD and then switch over to Inventor?
