AutoCAD Inventor :: Texture Scaling - Expanded Metal Not Viewable Until Zoomed In
Nov 26, 2012
I have a simple frame made of a 1/2 rod and have inserted a textured appearance of expanded metal. It is a guard.
I am not sure if the way i inserted the texture is correct, but it currently is scaled down to small. Have to scroll in lots to actually see the expanded metal.
Is there a better way to apply the texture than creating a surface? How can I adjust the scale of the texture?
Maybe applying a texture is not the best way to show that this guard is to have a section of expanded metal that will fit inside the 16x24 in guard? a note is not ideal in the drawing, but I suppose it is better than making an actual model of the expanded metal.
As my journey through Inventor 2012 continues, I have the task of creating Expanded Metal Mesh.I have the basic sketch of the shape and all is well. My question is how to pattern the sketch of the shape so that I dont have to copy or mirror over 100 of these sketches/outlines to form the pattern? Essentially I want my mesh to fill in a 30' x 30' square.
Is it possible to determine which nodes are expanded using the API?
I want to make some changes to the node information in an assembly browser but as there are many hundred parts so I only want to do the operation on the expanded nodes to keep any delay to a minimum.
I'm building a platform and have sheet metal on top of a tube frame. When I'm zoomed up closely I only see the sheet metal surface. But when I zoom out further some of the tubes start becoming visible through the sheet metal. This happens in just about every assembly. Parts behind other parts start becoming visible when zooming out far enough.
I am trying to reference a drawing in AutoCAD 2012 and whenever I try to atrtach the drawing by XREF it does not come in viewable. none of the layers are seen. this is the second or third drawing that this has happened to me. I have checked to see if it is on a frozen or off layer. or some non-plot layer. I have opened a fresh drawing to reference it in. none of these have produced a result. The only thing different about the layers is that the layer rhombus, which is usually Blue, is now grey
just installed LR5. when importing files (NEF) it says preview not available for these files. and the two viewable files had purpled lines through them. i then put them into preview to make sure something was there. (yes) and then imported into LR4 where they seem fine. any thoughts? software is up to date. camera is a D200.
I have a website that I recently updated with a new logo created on Corel Draw X4 and then edited using Photo Paint X4. I resampled the image at 72 dpi and save as a jpg.
Once saved I loaded it to my Microsoft Windows Live Small Business account for upload to my website. It was a straight forward process. However, when viewing the website, I noticed that while the logo was visible using FireFox browser, it was not visible using the Explorer browser.
My first thought was that it must be a setting in the browser, but the image also failed to render when viewing the website through my smart phone browser.
This brought to mind that I had had this problem before when trying to upload an older logo design in the same manner. Some browsers just would not load the image.
So, I had this crazy thought that it may have something to do with Corel and the way it saved jpg images. So, I opened the jpg using the old Microsoft Paint program and without making any changes to it, I saved it from there. After that the image loads on the website with all the browsers that wouldn't work before.
I would like to have a shortcut to fit a window (regardless of the image size) between the tool box on the left and the other pallettes on the right. The only way I do it now is to drag the window to the upper left starting point and then drag the lower right corner to size it.
How do I scale a 3D model that I have imported originally from a ".step" file (or really any 3D model). I have come from SolidWorks, and this was very easy to do. All of the help files indicate that I need access to the original sketch.
I am trying to print on a 3d printer and seem to have a bit of a scaling issue with inventor 2012. I saved the .stl file in the same units but still get a scaling issue. Under options when I save it shows a 1:1 scale as well as the correct units.
When printing a .stl file from another computer that has inventor 10 installed we do not have this issue. Seems to be something with the files from 2012.
After I had done all on detail drawing and dimensioning in inventor 2010.idw, my customer want it in 2004.dwg format and they want all drawing to be in files and in model space..And here the problem I face:
1) Base drawing is 1:1 and detail drawing is 4:1, redo a dimension in base drawing is ok but in detail drawing re-dimension it show 4 times the size. I had tried using view port/ scale area still can't.
2) When copy and paste Drawing A to Drawing B the detail drawing fence run out of place and scale. What I do is right click and do a block editor.
Looking for good solution for the above problem during conversion of IDW to DWG.
When I try to open a Photoshop file from both a dropdown (File > Open) or command O, the display window will stay open for a brief moment before closing.
On occasion I'll get the error *** -[_NSArrayM objectAtIndex:]: index 39 beyond bounds [0 .. 38]
Other times the error will say Could not complete your request because of a program error.
Other time there is no message.
The computer I'm running is MacBook Pro with Retina display, 3 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
In an assembly I'm working on, I need to place the same part multiple times, but I need this part to be a different scale each time. I'm working with Inventor 2010. Relatively new to the program.
Certain pieces from the content center, both things that I made and standard content, are coming into my drawings scaled wrong. Actually I don't think it's scale, because some rectangles are coming in as squares.
Everything looks great on the assembly, but they are wrong on the drawing. I've tried replacing from content center with no change.
.iam and resulting .idw. And one showing a wrong part and a correct part on an idw. The square on the left is supposed to be 2.25" square, which is what it measures to - but you can see that it isn't snapping to the actual geometry.
This is all stuff that has worked fine on previous versions of Inventor. I've had several instances of this so far since finally getting 2012 installed yesterday.
Is there any way to turn off the menu transparency of the right click menu? I find it highly annoying in drawings seeing hazy black lines behind text I am readingIs there any way to get inventor to work properly with windows dpi scaling? It is quite useful to have windows display text a skosh larger than normal but inventor is completely unusable with that option enabled. text on toolbars disappears and the zoom/pan/orbit goes from fluid to jumpy and useless.
It's enabled me to add an Edge Animate file to my responsive Wordpress site using the Edge Suite Plugin.
Only problem for me is that although the 3.7MB file I’ve created scales perfectly on all devices it struggles to play on smartphones. (I assume it's too big and too power hungry to play smoothly on smartphones - even since I've added a pre-loader.)
So, in an ideal world, what I need is a separate low res Edge Animate file that only plays on smartphones.
Failing that, I’d be happy with a 'Down-level Stage' image which could replace the Edge Animate animation.
For a moment I thought I’d found a solution when I came across this Adobe TV movie: [URL]
Unfortunately this clever solution only works when the new Responsive Scaling feature is NOT selected. As soon as it is selected, the animation no longer changes from one layout size to another when the browser window is reduced.
I don’t mind whether the fix is in Edge Animate, Wordpress or the Edge Suite Plugin - I just want a solution!
I plan to print some parts but I want to add some bumpy-ness to the surface areas or maybe even a fake metal brush finish look. How do I go about doing that in Inventor?
Working with sheet metal and laying out a pattern for the cnc and was wondering if there is a way to imprint an extrusion onto the surface instead of cutting it. Mainly this will be used for a marking tool so the line type or layer would need to be different.
I am working on a bin type unit, and am having trouble creating a flange, I am creating the bin in the final product stage, then I will separate into manufacturer components. I am having trouble adding this flange around the top 4 edges of the bin. I need the four corners to meet on a miter 45. I will then rip down each seam and have 4 separate panels.
Is this a bad workflow? Is there a better route? I attached the part in Inventor 2013 format,
Attached are two sheet metal parts that we need to unfold and make them flat for a drawing. We cannot seem to capture the reference A or reference B planes asked for by the unfold command.
Is there a way to get the appearance of perforation on a sheet metal tube without having to create each and every hole? Looking for an appearance to drag onto the surface. Kind of like when you make a part look like it is made of brick. It being just an image on the model surface.
Very thin gauge aluminum sheets with a composite sandwiched between them.
The challenge is, the panels are relatively thick, 3mm or 4mm, but a router is used on the fold lines before bending to cut through all but the outer aluminum. This makes for a very tight bend radius.
So, thick 3 layer material, tight bend with mitered corners. Can Inventor's sheet metal tools handle this?
Can this part be made with sheet metal tools...it will be made from aluminum. I attach the shape made with standard tools and the sheet metal attempt.......how do add the sides in sheet metal.
how incredible it is that Inventor still does not have a functional normal cut option for sheet metal like Solidworks and Solidedge have long had and I agree. I realize that there are the standard workflows like using derive and thicken to get around this problem. However, for those interested, there is a way to make a normal cut (for laser/cnc) directly in the sheet metal part in many cases. It involves using a sketch to split a face and then using the resulting profile for a thicker/cut feature. I'm always interested in any other methods out there for obtaining normal cuts in complex sheet metal (for a clean dxf export). By the way, Autodesk, do you actually not have any plans of ever adding functionality in this area?
