AutoCAD Inventor :: Pro 2011 - Demoting / Moving Patterns Into Subassembly
Jun 7, 2012
Is there any way to move a pattern into an existing subassembly? I have a piping layout that I demoted into a subassembly, now I want to add the flange bolts/nuts that I patterned into that subassembly and it will not let me drag and drop like it does components. I am using INV Professional 2011.

I have a sub assembly with a sliding part in the main assembly but the sliding part is locked, the "flexible" option is greyed out?My head is not in gear this year yet! Am I able to move unconstrained parts in sub assemblies via the main assembly by pulling them with a mouse?

(in Inventor Pro 2014,64 bit):
I've made an stairs assembly that contains adaptive parts that are all controlled by the assembly parameters.
Here is my assembly and the controlling parameters. The stringers on the side are made with the frame generator and use the "extend" feature to get the appropriate length, as driven by the parameters. The reason I used frame generator is so that I can easily change sizes of the stringers down the road, if needed. I chose to make the parts associative so I could control all of the parameters from within the assembly instead of opening each part separately.
My goal now is to be able to use this assembly (or something similar) as a template to create new sets of stairs, all to be placed in the same main assembly.
I attempted to duplicate all of the parts (append a "2" at the end of each file name and replace components in the new set of stairs with the 2nd version) but ran into problems with the two stringers. I can't figure out what to do to get the Frame00001 and Skeleton00001 to reassociate to Frame00002 and Skeleton00002. So any time I change my slope, the original stairs will end up trying to copy the new stringers instead of keeping the old ones.
how can I make this assembly reference a new frame, and secondly?

i have a layout that i made into a PDF to show my client. the layout has a pattern and when you view the PDF, the pattern moves around as you Zoom in and out of the pdf. i have never experienced this before.
i tried saving with different settings to different versions but they all do it.
i have layers off, and illustrator editibility off.
edit: the pattern only moves when viewed in Preview. still i don't understand shouldn't be doing it.

I am trying to export geometry found in a flat pattern sketch overlaid onto the flat pattern.
Since I am creating the output file manually I gather the flat pattern boundaries and bend center lines for output to a file.
When I add flat pattern sketch entities to the mix they do not overlay properly. What matrix would I have to push the sketch entities through to get them to the same coordinates as the flat pattern?

When I use ImportSubassembly API to import my subassembly created by Autodesk Subassembly Composer into my civil project, it reports error-"eFilerError".
the code like this:
atcFile = @"D:9f92eaa4ef514ac982518852e1169932.atc";
itemId = "ab660722-c69d-4ade-b373-0e9f99c94e55";
SubassemblyCollection subassemblyCollection = cDoc.SubassemblyCollection;
ObjectId subassemblyId = subassemblyCollection.ImportSubassembly("TestSubassembly", atcFile, itemId, this.doc.Editor.GetPoint("Select import subAssembly location").Value);
However, it is OK if to import subassembly provided by Cilvil 3D.

I have a frame generator assembly that I created to take advantage of the frame analysis tools. This assembly was later broken down into the main fabricated assemblies (for drawing purposes) using the "demote frame generator component" tools. The basic question is this: can I take one of the "demoted" sub-assemblies and move it to another assembly file all-together?
best way to move the four legs from the platform assembly to the tank assembly after the fact? I was thinking I would just place the leg sub-assembly into the tank assembly and then delete it out of the platform one but I'm not sure of the ramifications.

How to transfer a sub-assembly location to another sub-assembly location (Same orientation and location)?
I'm doing with equipments(Pressure vessels and heat exchanger). I would like make all nozzle location to be in 0 degree and 90 degrees angle if horizontal equipment and 90 degrees and 270 degrees angle if vertical equipment.
How can I know the XYZ axis on corresponding locations without having a reference to another nozzle?(If no nozzle in 0 degree and 90 degree angle of the equipment, so on and so forth).

In my head assembly I have a subassembly that has derived parts from my skeleton. My skeleton (part ending with skt in the picture) is in the subassembly.
In this subassembly I made a view representation: NoSKT..When this is activated the skeleton is hided (see picture). If I now make a pattern of this subassembly in my head assembly with for example a parameter from my embedded excel or a parameter in inventor "quantity = 2" inventor will add 1 element with the same view representation. Still no problem.
The problem is now when I change the parameter. If I change the quantity to for example 3, the view representation of the third element is gone and the skeleton will become visible.I have many parts like this in my head assembly and quite a lot of patterns. Which means a lot of skeletons become visible. Is there a way to stop this from happening?

I've tried this code here after setting the assembly flexible in the top level but it doesn't work.
ThisApplication.ActiveDocument.ComponentDefinition?.RepresentationsManager.PositionalRepresentations(?"Test").Activate
I will be pulling the subassemblies in as read-only parts and I would like to change the positional representation with code in the top level assembly.

I am working on a project which uses two gear reducers. I have built the gear reducer and saved it as an assembly file so to import it to the assembly of the project. When i import the reducer assembly into the project assembly, the reducer is shown as a single piece, not as a mechanism which i can interact with. But if i select, by doubleclicking, the reducer, it becomes active again. The problem is that i want to connect the reducer to another gear assembly and watch it interact.

I havent used inventor studio for animation too much. The question I have is why cant I animate a component in a subassembly? I can animate the parts in the assembly, but not any parts that are in a subassembly. Is this how it has always worked or just a 2013 thing. If it is suppose to be like this, I think it is ridiculous and pointless to have this feature. now I have to place all the moving part into the main assembly.

I have some parts in a subassembly that I want to make invisible. When I input my iLogic code(that I used hundreds of times before) the part is made invisible in the subassembly only if I open the subassembly. When I go back to the parent assembly it still shows the part visible. Here is a sample of my

I created a general assembly (GA) and placed several parts and assemblies. After I realized there are too many parts and assemblies in the GA to reasonably place on a drawing. Now I want to remove some parts and create sub-assemblies. Is there an easy proceedure to select some parts in the GA and insert them into a new sub-assembly and (hopefully) keep the constraints intact?

I'm working in a large top level assembly and the following is happening
1. Assembly is happy with no broken constraints
2. Edit a constraint (in this case, to rotate a part based on an angular constraint with another part)
3. Error message pops up telling me dozens of constraints in subassemblies are broken
4. Click Accept, assembly does not visually update
5. Click "Rebuild All" button under manage tab
6. 3 minutes later the model is updated, everything is happy, model looks how it should.
This type of problem has been happening lots to different assemblies with difference constraint scenarios.

I have a sub assembly that I am making a drawing of. The assembly drawing needs to also display the main assembly as a reference part (in phantom lines). The sub assembly is made up of flexible hoses that need their connection points referenced.
Inserting the main assembly into the drawing, so that I can see both the main assembly and the sub assembly together, messes up the parts list and balloons.
There must be a way to dislay the sub assembly in the main assembly and still have the part list and ballons reference the sub assembly?

I am using Ilogic to control visibility of a subassembly in a subassembly of my main assembly. It works correctly inside of the subassembly just not from the Main Assembly. If I use IsActive instead it works but I can't use this because the dimensions in the associated drawings lose there attachment points using IsActive. I can change my assembly by removing the middle sub assembly but will require writing a lot more code.

I would like to obtain, in a structured parts list, the total number of ITEM in the sub-assembly.
See the picture attached for the example.
I have found an iLogic rule to create an user ipropertie in each part, with the total nomber of this part in all the assemby (included all sub-assemblies).
I would like to know if it is possible to obtain the total of this part only in the sub-assembly. Is it possible with an iLogic rule or VBA ?

I am using Inventor 2012. I have a subassembly that has two parts. I was able to dimension each part by retrieving dimensions. This subassembly also is an iAssembly. The main part stays the same but the second part changes.
My problem is, I had to make the main part an iPart because in one of the subassemblies, the main part has an added feature. After making the main part an iPart, all my dimensions in the subassembly drawing turned pink. I removed the dimensions and tried to retrieve them again but now I cannot. There are many dimensions I cannot manually dimension.
Is there away to retrieve dimensions from an iPart in a subassembly?

Is there a way to run a rule which is part of a sub assembly from the parent assembly?
I have a parent skeleton assembly containing many icopy assemblies. These subassemblies are based of one master assembly which in turn has a common part. (hence why I am using the icopy feature)
This standard part has an ilogic rule which varries the number of creases in a wall panel. eg. when the panel is 1200 wide there are 2 creases, when the panel is under 800 wide there is one crease and when the panel is less than 600 wide then there are no creases.
When I insert the icopy assembly into the master skeleton assembly and click select the widths of the panels they stretch and change to suit my skeleton. However I am having to visit each copied panel to run the crease rule.
Is there an operation or some sort of trigger I can implement to make this rule run as soon as the sub assembly is inserted?

Is there a way to edit constraints inside a subassembly from the main assembly, using ilogic?
I would like to supress a constraint (let's call it mate:8), which is inside a subassembly. When I right click on that constraint, and select "Capture Current State", it inserts Constraint.IsActive("Mate:8") into my iLogic code. However, there is already a mate:8 in my main assembly, so how can I be more specific so that iLogic knows which constraint I am talking about?

I have an assembly with multiple instances of a subassembly. I'd like to remove the subassembly and place the subassembly components (i.e. multiple instances) in the main assembly. When complete, the top assembly would have multiple instances of all the subassembly components.
Component promote seems like the right way to do this. So, I selected an instance of one of the subassemblies components and promoted it. That component was promoted, removing it from the subassembly as placing it in my top level assembly.
However, all the other instances of that component disappear (which makes sense since that component is no longer in the subassembly). Unfortunately, this means I have to assemble and constrain all the other instances that disappeared.

One of the enhancements in 2013 is that users can send models to Showcase and convert constraints into animated behaviors, however, some users wonder if there is any way to select constraints which are within the subassemblies instead of the top assembly, how would you do it?
I have selected constraints in subassemblies but they don't become behaviors. The workflow allows users to select them, but they aren't converted into behaviors.

We have an issue regarding Parts Lists. We currently produce a 'master parts list drawing' for the jobs we produce. This drawing has 2 rolled up parts list on it -
1 - purchased parts - so buying can order all the required parts in one go.
2 - manufactured parts - so production know which and how many parts to make.
Both of these can be setup in Inventor (using filters) so they display only the correct parts from the BOM. However, neither of these show assembly / subassembly files (and consequently drawings). Is there any way of creating a parts list that can show assembly files only?

Assembly1.iam

This is what I want:
Assembly1.iam
- Assembly3.iam
- Assembly2.iam
+ Part1
+ Part2
But Assembly2 shouldn't lose any constraints to Assembly1.

Currently I m wokring on fairly large assembly of (as it feels to me) 14441 (Total Occurances in Active Document) and 1765 (Open Documents in Session). Its a complex Jump Form system for a sky scrapper.
Now as I went on with the assembly and saving all the parts, bolted connections and subassemblies in network drive - few of them were accidently saved in my local drive. I have setup a project files for this project and other projects and any one in my team changes the project file to open certain model assembly. So now when i open the assembly it goes fine but if someone else in my team opens that up they get errors of unresloved stuff. Now the things for which I need guidances are,
1. If I pack and go the whole assembly to remove the reslove errors - what will happen to my 100s of drawings (idw)?
2. Few of subassemblies had to undergo pack and go so that they can be changed to suit requirement at some other places after being renamed through design assistant. But now when i open my main assembly after setting up my prjecting file - it gives errors of multiple instances for the subassemblies obtained by performing "pack and go", in relation with the orginal sub assemblies.
3. What is the best technique for setting up project, main and subassemblies?
4. What steps I must need to follow performing pack and go? the destination folder can be a folder in project? if it is outside, how to grab it back in project (simple copy, paste)? After Pack and Go do I have to rename even the bolts before i bring the Pack and Go folder back to my project???
4. Can Autodesk Vault solve my problems? How difficult it is to setup and use Vault?
