I am pretty familiar with Assembly constraints but I want to know how do you constrain/motion a screw or similar object to be able to turn appropriately whilst going up & down a threaded hole?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to constrain motion for the following design:
-Object constrained to vertical motion (a counterweight).
-Object constrained to horizontal motion along a track (a slider).
A cable runs from the counterweight upward, makes a 180-degree turn around a pulley, runs back down, makes a 90-degree turn around another pulley, and connects to the slider.
When the weight moves down 10 cm, the slider needs to move laterally 10 cm.I don't care about modelling the cable, but I do need to have the slider move as the weight moves.
I will also need to model a case with a more complicated pulley, where when the weight moves down 10cm the slider moves laterally 5cm (again I don't care about the cable, just the relative motion).
Is there a way I can do this without creating a series of planes and cylinders and using rotation - translation constraints to link the motion of the weight to the slider?
I'm trying to make this assembly flexible in that the bar will flex so the "s-clip" can hold the 2 handles together. I read some of the forums about the scissors assembly in the autodesk folders and I can see it working in that assembly btu can't figure out how to make it apply to mine. It is basically one of those camping grills that makes hot sandwiches or pies.

I assume I can do this with Param for the existing hole but not sure what it would be called? Is there a list or method of determining what these parameters are called so I'll be able to find them in the future?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to find an option to hide all constraints in a drawing, I am familiar with the toolbar option to turn display constraints on and off but my issue is that it's not a permanent toggle. Every time I change from a paper tab to the model tab or activate a viewport the constraint display is automatically turned on again and I must wait for the constraints and the drawing to generate. When playing checker I am frequently changing tabs or checking within a viewport, this is adding significant time required to check the drawing. I have not been able to locate a system variable or command to "freeze" the constraints until I want to see them again. an option to allow me to turn off constraint displays as I'm desiring or is this a Wish List item for R2014?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to drive more than one constraint at a time. The assembly consist of a hydraulic ram that pulls a cable which is routed around a few pullys and then pulls another linear moving member. I don't really care about modeling the cable right now, I just want the cylinder piston and the final member to move in unison. I can only drive one constraint at a time, so I figured I could relate the two constraints together by setting them equal to a parameter (variable), but that isn't working. Is it me or is driving multiple constraints at a time something that would be very useful for a lot of applications?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm modeling cables running through a series of cable clamps. I'm working in an assembly with my structure as one part, clamps as seperate parts, and cables as separate parts. I modeled the clamps first and am using them to create my 3d spline to run the sweep. The clamps have moved several times and each time, the sweeps (cables) do not update to follow the new clamping path. I have tried multiple ways of solving this.
I've tried to redo the splines using "Include Geometry" and running the spline through the centers of the clamps. I've also deleted the constraints (which for some reason turn into fixed) and reapplied them as coincident constraints. However, once I setup these coincidences, they always change back to fixed.
In a last ditch method, I've created 2d sketches at EVERY clamping location (yes that's alot of sketches, time and effort) and projected the circular geometry to get a center point. This has seemed to work, but is so much work, there's no way we could use it regularly.
I've got a template with a set of Object defaults for an Inch drawing and a set for a Metric drawing. I've just noticed that within my metric set, if I insert a hole table with tapped holes, the font on the tapped holes doesn't match the other hole types. I'm searched around, but all the settings for the hole table style reference the same text style. (Please see the attached image.)
So is there a way to set a certain hole type to have a certain font or size within a hole table? Because if there is, I'd obviously like to remove it..... But I can't seem to figure out where the issue is.
I am trying to add a hole to an existing hole chart. I drop the part into a new drawing, set the ordinate "zero", and add a hole chart by selecting a few holes. When I attempt to edit the chart: click chart, right click "edit", click add hole, select new holes, right click to create, the "create" selection is greyed out and all I have to choose from is cancel. I searched the forum here but could not find a reference to this a know issue. Am I doing something wrong or is this a glitch of 2013.
We are running win7 x64 machines and this happens on both the 2013 Ultimate and Premium editions of the product.
I have had this problem intermittently for a few weeks since going to Inventor 2013 SP1.1. I have a part within an assembly and that part has holes created in it before assembling it with other parts. Now when I try and create a hole table in a drawing of the assembly I cannot select hole edges and the hole table is blank when trying to create it automatically from view selection. I originally thought it may be an alignment issue but I have since aligned everything correctly and it still persists. I can create the hole table if I import in just the part into the drawing but it will not allow me to create the table on the whole assembly.
I can also create the hole table if I use "centred pattern" and create cross hairs on all of the holes however it does not give me correct annotations for the holes as shown in attachment and I can manually change the annotations but seriously this should not be required. As shown in the screen shot it reads as A1 down to K1 instead of A1 to A10. .
Question: Is it possible to control the Hole Dimensions called out on the Hole Chart? As in controling leading/trailing zeros for main hole dim, alt home dim and tolerances? Can you combine the Main Dim with the Alt dim in a single column, separated with parentheses? (same with tolerance?)

Experiencing some difficulty slotting the cap screw shown. The problem is this: an additional sketch is created using a rectangle .313 * .094 centered .2815 * .047 from the center of the screwhead. The sketch gets finished the extrusion is created but does not show up. The extrusion is not visible even though a new sketch was created.

I have gotten the coil to taper to the point, however, I'm unable to get thread to terminate properly.
Essentially, the pitch remains the same as it moves down the taper, but the major/minor is diminishing until it terminates cleanly at the point.
I have designed a wooden bracing system and added the wood material properties for the part in Inventor 2012. My question is this - does Inventor have the ability to add stainless steel wood screws to the assembly to make this a 'real world' situation prior to me doing a stress analysis on it ? Something similar to the bolted connections for metal assemblys but for screws in wood is what I'm looking for.

I'm trying to draw standard flat head socket cap screw size 1/4-20 with 5/8 length. I've tried to draw it with the exact dimensions (converted inches to mm) but the head doesn't turn up correctly.
I've done metric screws with dimensions from that site (mcmaster-carr) and they turned out just right.URL....
imagine a sheet (big black rectangle), then red rectangles are putted into corners.
I want to have one subassembly - red rectangle with screw/bolt or whatever you call it, but i want to change position of screw if necessary (this screw needs to be a part of kit/subassembly) but I do not want a situation when this new screw position is the only reason of making new subassembly.
I tried Position in representation but I can assign constraints only to master level.
I need a screw M16 x 0.25 mm. However, I don't have the option "0.25mm". How to create a screw with custom pitch size?

I am using these set limits within a drive constraint so
to show the Jack opening & closing.
Although it can now open & close with ease,
how I can make the crank turn with the screw rod at the same time as the scissor car jack opens & closes.
I'm trying to make a view showing a motor-jackscrew unit with the jackscrew at the fully retracted position and also with the jackscrew at the fully extended position (in phantom). Refer to the attachment.
My initial plan was to have two views in the drawing, one retracted and one extended, and then just align them vertically and horizontally. But it turns out that you can only align vertically OR horizontally, not both at the same time. So I created an assembly of two iAssemblies, one with the screw extended and one retracted. Then I made the drawing view from the direction that placed the extended assembly directly behind the retracted assembly.

Later I will constrain but for now I just need to see where the two meet so I can project geometry onto a draw surface. So, all I need to do is make their central axes coincide on one straight line.
I can achieve the same result by counting the various lengths but I'm hoping there's a simpler solution.
Assume a beam like the one in the picture below.
How must I configure the constraints?
The left constraints should be a "Fix constraint" on the edge(not the face) I assume.
But the right constraints must not fix all DOF's.
How can I configure the right constraint?
