AutoCAD Inventor :: Importing WRL And DAE To FDS

Jul 24, 2013

is there a decent way to import *.wrl and *.dae files to Inventor/ FDS?

Which other programs might I need? Meshlab sounds promising but I had troubles with the materials of the *.wrl file.

It´s a rather big *.wrl file and the corresponding *dae file is even bigger.

P.S.: I also thought about bringing them together in Navisworks or Max.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Importing 3D Model

Jun 12, 2013

Customer has sent me a 3D Autocad model.  Part opens fine in Autocad 2012 and Acad Mech 2012. I need to bring this into Inventor so, from Inventor: Choose Open and select the dwg file.

From options, I select "Import".
Select "Next" on the dwf/dfx File Wizard, then Finish.

Instead of Inventor opening the file, I get this dialog.... "Mechanical Desktop 6 or newer is required".I don't have Mech Desktop.  How can I get this part into Inventor? In ACAD, I tried ACISOUT and picked the objects.... "339 found, No Solids, regions, or Shape Manger bodies found".  Does not export.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Importing Fonts

Dec 9, 2013

Having a specific font style (Handel Gothic) which is used for our company logo i find that this does not seem to be supported by Inventor.

I have attempted to import .dwg drawings into inventor with the logo but this does not work.

Another method i have tried is to draw the characters in sketch mode and then attempt to solid hatch them again with little success.,there does seem to be no facility  for hathing in sketch mode!

This logo font is used on our drawing border sheets and also nameplates so our MD is keen to keep the present format.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Importing STL Files

Is Inventor compatible with STL files (probably not as I haven't succeeded getting them in)? I've got an object scanned and need this scan data as template to rebuild the object in Inventor. If STL files can't be imported, are there any other ways how to get point clouds or meshes into Inventor (or is it just impossible)?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Importing 2D Geometry

How in import 2D geometry into Inventor so I do not have to redraw the profile, only extrude the existing geometry. I tried to export from Autocad a IGES file, and then create a sketch plane in Inventor and project the geometry onto the sketch plane, but I ended up with a bunch of open loops. Perhaps, I have figured it out and real question is how to I close open loops?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Importing And Modifying DWG?

Mar 22, 2013

I am trying to do a "quick and dirty" stopgap.

I am in the process of repairing and assembling the various systems for a luxury yacht - electrical, mechanical etc. The ultimate goal is to get a full 3D layout of parts and assemblies, then using tube and pipe and cable and harness to run conduits, aircon ducts, fuel lines....

All I have to go on are .dwgs

In the meantime I need to submit a modified .dwg to the engineers overseas to get the O.K. on swapping the order of certain components. All I need to do is change the labels text on the layout, nothing else.

I have imported the .dwg into an Inventor sketch and edited the text.

Now I am stuck. Placing the view into a new drawing shows nothing.

RMB export sketch as .dwg works, but not a single line of text shows, only the layout.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Export / Importing STL Files

Dec 28, 2012

A couple months ago I could export to STL files using Inventor Pro 2012 and a third party could open them on whatever platform they are using. Now when I export to STL files, the third party cannot open them and I cannot open them either on the Inventor Pro 2012 platform. Nothing has changed since the originals were sent to the third party. I have read some of the threads, but there is a lot of STL, none of the ones I read address this problem. The properties from Windows Explorer say the file type is Certificate Trust List (.stl).

AutoCAD Inventor :: Units When Importing A Model?

Jun 20, 2013

We are using Inventor 2013 (Windows 7) and am trying to import an assembly created by a third party using AutoCAD. For the sake of this question let's assume the AutoCAD file contains a cube which is 10 x 10 x 10 units. The part should be 10 x 10 x 10 mm in size. We don't use AutoCAD so are unfamiliar with it but it appears to have no specified units, I could be very wrong here!

In Inventor we import the .dwg file and the cube is 10 x 10 x 10 inches in size.We can't figure out if the person who constructed the cube built it too large (reading mm off the drawing but constructing it using inches) or if we have missed something when importing the file into Inventor. We could scale the AutoCAD assemby but this could lead to a small but significant margin for error so we want to understand what is happening first.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Importing Assembly To SolidWorks

Mar 29, 2013

I have an assembly designed by somebody else in Inventor. I exported it as STP under Inventor 2013 and imported to SolidWorks 2012. It took over half a day. After the import, some of the objects became big spheres. Know what is going on? I then saved a sub-assembly from Inventor and imported to Solidworks. I tried to use Feature Recognition. However, SW reported that "FeatureWorks. Part contains overlapping solids. FeatureWorks can not proceed further." In the tree on the left, I see a list of Imported objects. I cannot even edit those objects. What is the best way to import design created in Inventor to SolidWorks anyway?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Importing Solidworks Files

AutoCAD Inventor :: Importing Large SAT File

May 17, 2012

A customer has sent me a .sat file that is 297MB.  Inventor is grinding at it, but its taking a very long time to open.  Part count is up to 4323 open documents and the "Importing SAT Bodies-54%".

This has been running for two hours and it seems like it is getting slower and slower.  My concern here is that this machine will run out of memory before it completes.  It has 8GB of installed ram.

Any tips on bringing these large files into Inventor?  Would a different neutral format be any faster/better?

This seems to be a big issue as we always import the assemblies, then ground them. And this gives us the option of moving or deleting certain components, as well as opening individual components in their own part environment.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Importing And Constraining Vector Drawing

Apr 10, 2013

I have a vector drawing of a logo, currently in adobe illustrator format. I'd like to create a 2D sketch in Autodesk Inventor and then insert this drawing into the sketch as a shape that can only be placed and scaled.

The way I'd expect this to work is essentially that I'd get a rectangle X enclosing vector object Y, and that I'd then be able to create a fully constrained Inventor sketch by simply constraining the corners of this rectangle X. Is it possible to do something along those lines, and if so what is the best practice for it?

What I tried, which failed, was this:

1. Converted the AI file to a .DWG file

2. Used the "Insert ACAD" command to place the file in Inventor with the Constrain End Points and Apply geometric constraints boxes checked (other boxes were unchecked)

3. Waited for a surprisingly long time for this operation to complete, maybe 30s on a 16GB 2.6GHz quad machine

The result of this operation is that I now see my imported geometry, BUT all vectors are treated as individual shapes and I have 2637 dimensions needed.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Importing MDT 2008 Files To New Folder

I am having some issues with the importation of some old files (from Mechanical Desktop 2008) to our new Inventor 2013...

I've been trying to use the Tasks Scheduler from my 2008 suite to "Import" my files into a new folder but it doesn't seem to be working. (it creates every folder and subfolder but keep them empty)

I know it's possible to install MDT2009 on an Inventor 2012 suite but it doesn't work with the 2013 version.

Is there a way for me to be able to use the old 2003 objects (3D ones) on Inventor 2013 (or on any other 2013 software?)
