View 2 RepliesIs there a reason that .DWG files do not update in Windows Explorer (Windows 7 Pro, SP1)?
I have "Save a thumbnail preview image" set to "Use view when drawing last saved". I also have Open with AutoCAD application set in Explorer. I have also re-booted the machine.
Have not had a problem before but all of a sudden, the thumbnail will not update, or it shows the AutoCAD "BIG RED A".
AutoCAD 2012 / Inventor 2012
I take a lot of images for time laspe sequences andI have just upgraded to LR5 and the issue I am seeing is after inporting or developing the images the only thumbnails that update are those I curently amm looking at in the library. I can scroll down after leaving the machine for hours and they only update when currently scrolled. This is really annoying and just taking ages to do anything. I have downloaded LR5.2 RC but there is no change that I can see.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI made a change to my materials library. I changed the color (from dark grey to light grey) of one material. I then saved this back to my library.
Now, when I start a new part, I get a warning that the material does not match the library. So, rather than using the material in the part, I opened the template and updated the material to match the library. (Manage >Update Styles).
This is where the problems come into play. In the update styles dialog, if I compare materials against my custom materials and then compare it to my Favorites, it just a continuious circle. It is like the favorites are stored inside the part and do not get updated to match the custom materials library. (I thought the whole idea behind using a library was to get the information out of the parts).
Here is a short video showing what it does. [URL] .....
The only way I can get the favorites to match is to delete the favorite material, update the style and the add the favorite back in. That is a bunch of work. The problem I got with this is that there are thousands of parts that have been created that has this favorite in it. The only way to update these is to open each part (if I knew which one), delete the favorite, update the materials and then add the favorite back in.
I see the same thing in 2013 and 2014.
I am wondering if it is possible to do a style update (or style update check) upon open of a drawing?
The example would be that I have stuff made from way back that the colors/dimension sytles ect dont match the current standard and upon opening a file where they are not current, it would either prompt to update immediatly OR update automatically with no prompting (preferred method).
I am doing a massive amount of updates from old files recently and to save myself 1 - 3 clicks per drawing would be wonderful.
I have is that after so long thumbnails in windows explorer stop loading just shows generic Autodesk image(.ipt, .iam, .stp, .idw, .dwg ect.). Causing me to be unsure on which file I'm actually opening. Causing me to have to restart the computer.
What is weird is you are able to see the thumbnails in the thumbnail of the parent folder but when you open the folder they aren't shown. If you open up properties it shows a thumbnail.
Closing and opening a new window doesn't fix this error. This was an issue I had experienced with 2011 and am still experiencing with 2013.
I want to all thumbnails to have White Background.
I can Open and save each file but that will take me for ever.
Can it be done with iLogic?
We have thousands of parts & assemblies, and want to create a thumbnail image of each for use with our production software. Unfortunately task scheduler only exports to solid models, not images. How to achieve this via macros, VB or iLogic. The process would go something like:
1) open (each) file
2) turn 'all work features off' (not essential but it would be nice so work planes don't show up in the thumbnail)
3) go to 'home view'
4) zoom to extents or zoom all
5) 'save copy as' to a set location (not same location as part or assy) with file name of "<PartNumber>.png" (not same as original filename)
6) turn 'all work features on' (if we managed to turn them off)
7) close (and repeat process for the remaining parts & assy's).
I have a code to shows a thumbnail of inventor drawings and it works in inventor 2012 but gives an error in inventor 2014 (trail)
It shows a thumbnail of inventor drawings and I used the examples on this website:
[URL]
The filelocation of the document is correct (i checked the error message with catch)
Try
Dim doc As Document = oApp.Documents.Open(FileDir & "" & DisplayItem & ".idw", False)
Dim thumbnail As stdole.IPictureDisp = doc.Thumbnail
Dim img As Image = Compatibility.VB6.IPictureDispToImage(thumbnail)
Me.PictureBox1.Image = img
Catch
MsgBox(FileDir & "" & DisplayItem & ".idw")
End Try
Is there a change in the way stdole.IPictureDisp or Compatibility.VB6.IPictureDispToImage(thumbnail) works?
Perhaps a change in how inventor handles thumbnails?
When you go to the Appearance Browser and go to our custom appearances, some of the thumbnails don't match what the appearance is actually set to. If you open up/edit the appearance it shows the correct appearance, but the thumbnail isn't displayed correctly.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen inserting a Content Center part into an assembly as a custom part instead of as a standard one, then opening and modifying the part, the thumbnail for the new file is not updating to show the modifications. In this particular instance: a pipe blind flange with an off-center hole drilled through the face. The thumbnail still shows as the original (and fairly pixelated) CC blind flange. forcing the thumbnail to update?

View 11 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to get the COG to update its self automatically when I change an assembly / part without having to turn it on and off again? At the moment, as soon as I change a part it just goes grey and has absolutely no use (shows where the COG was, but not is). Obviously this is a bit pointless, so is there a way to make the COG automatically update without any input from me?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am using Inventor Pro 2010.I have a model and I am driving the dimensions from EXCEL. The model updates nicely when I change dimensions but the drawing (idw) does nothing. In the browser instead of the usual tree in the view there is this red lightning bolt and under them is a big plus (+) sign and the words Solid.... after it.I was assuming that the lightning bolt meant something needed updating, but I can't find how this is done.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMade some minor changes / updates to our .idw template and would like to update previous .idw's to the new template. Can this be done automatically? Is this done in styles?
I have opened previous .idw's and checked for updates in styles and none are shown. The changes/updates are to the title block and revision table. New drawings open with the new template changes, but we would like those changes to any previous drawings as well.
First off if I update a sketch block in a derived part, how do I get the sketch blocks to update? Do I have to delete derived item, and rederive it?
Also if I modify a sketch block that is used for a extrusion, how do I get the extrusion to update? Do I have to delete extrusion and rextrude?
I have a fuel tank assembly and created a subs lod for use in the top level assembly.
I changed the length, width and height of the tank body. The assembly is fine but the subs LoD isn't updating properly. I have tried rebuild all from both the tank assembly and the top level assembly. Even if I open the subs derived part I cant get it to update.
Is there anyway to shut off the notification window for errors occured during update? I am swapping parts in an assembly so I know constraints will have to be repaired, but it doesn't work that I have to click on the 'accept' button everytime I move an object

View 1 Replies View RelatedCurrently I am using I-logic and a form. I have an assembly that I am pushing a volume from a part to the main assembly. The volume updates in the part fine. The issue is with the form is not updating when the file parameter updates. If I exit the form and run the rule manually then the form updates. how to update the form at the same time?
View 1 Replies View Relatedthe newest model I have made I have run into some troubles. When I switch between one member and another most parameters update correctly but the part is still requiring an update before the finished part is created.
When the feature small sheds is enabled the pattern isn't working correctly. It seems as though the height that controls the sheds is not updating during the member change process and is causing the pattern to be the wrong length.
I have set up a form to add my parameters as there are a large number in the ipart table.I can't generate my member files as they show the member before it is updated and is wrong.
I am having some issues concerning updating drawings. When a part (.IPT) is placed in a drawing, everything is fine (ie. the views represented in the drawing are up-to-date). Yet, when I make a change to the part (something as small as a dimensional change) it does not translate through to the drawing. This is also the case for iProperties.
I have been playing around for a while now, but have had no luck. The part is also an iPart, but this shouldn't matter.
I just had Inventor 2010 reinstalled on a new workstation with Windows 7. On any new drawings my line weights are fine.
On any drawings created before the new install, the line weights are all the wrong thicknesses now when I open them on my machine. They used to be fine and to our company standard.
How do I get it to where my line weights are correct on all idw drawings.
I am having a problem with a sketch not updating the parameters when using a "while / end while" command.
Basically if you have a right angled triangle (as attached) with one side and the angle doing the driving then I wish to update the sketch until the last side which is a reference dimension reaches a preset dimension.
I cannot get the updated sketch to read back into the while command to stop when the limit is reached. Instead it goes on an infinite loop until the sketch breaks.
I have used every update under the sun and can get nothing to work.
Trigonometry not an option as this is a basic example of what I wish to achive.
I have seen an example of this working but only for reading the iproperties so dimensions can change until a volume is reached.
Frame members that are trimmed to work planes in the skeleton won't update when these planes are moved. This is not how it is supposed to work, right?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI made a very simple "Junction" model which could generate different model per input.
My problem is: my model did not update before run "Save File" rule which made the saved model is not correct.
I have to use ilogic rule to save this model instead of "Save As" in Inventor menu.
"Junction" model which include some rules is included.
My current Version is:
Inventer Professional 2013 64-Bit Edition Build 200 release: 2013 SP2.
Autodesk Inventor Professional 2013 (64 Bit) SP2
Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5645
12.0 GB Memory
It is possible to create parts that can update there size from changing the "root" (possibly called the derived-from part??) dimensions. I have a tubular frame structure and there is sheet metal components that enclose this structure.
We make these units in 2 standard sizes, but in the last few months, we have been getting requests from clients for extra components to be installed or sometimes components to be removed. This changes the size of the unit. Also depending on which mine they go to, some need to be shorter or longer and wider or narrower.
I have created a frame that I can change easily to to required dimensions, but it would be a dream if all the sheet metal components updated to the frame size. Most times these doors and sheet metal components stay in the same location, so if everything updated with a simple change to the frame size, that would make my job easier, and leave me more time to create new products.
I can't upload any files due to size, but I have attached a few screen shot to clarify things. Basically it is a frame unit, with doors and access panels to electrical components inside.
I made a significant change to an assembly that messed up several constraints. I fixed all the constraints using the red cross button but the local update button is still lit up and won't do anything when I click it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI´m having a bit of an issue with a form.
I have a global form which is exactly made for a specific assembly for configuration of this very assembly. To make things easier for the user I call another external rule which only opens exactly this assembly.
Now when the user opens the form the assembly is not open and obviously can´t reference the used parameters.
Even after loading the assembly the parameters are not available, which results in something like this:
So this is a really simple question, is there a way to update a form so that it rereads the parameters from the assembly?
What I tried is using iLogicForm.CloseGlobal("Name of form") to no availability and then open it again with iLogicForm.ShowGlobal("Name of form").
But I couldn´t find any further info on the iLogicForm Commands.
I have a parameters only part which drives the parts in an assembly. When I change the parameters and go back into the assembly I am getting an error. I can accept the error and drag the parts around and they snap into place, which ends the error. It works, but isn't very appealing to the eye. Is there any way to fix this?
