I generated a pinion and gear train using gear generator in Power Transmission tab and saved the spur gear1 as pinion. However the displayed name in inventor is still spur gear1 when I open the file (the file's name is changed to pinion). How shall I rename the file? I attached the file here.

Note that I am using VB for the programming and I have use Try and Catch for linking my API to the inventor. So on starting debugging my API, Inventor starts just as the example in the my first pluggin.
The Only thing remaining is to link my API to the Spur Gear Generator.
I am having a problem while making 2 straight spur gears. The purpose is to connect the crankshaft with the camshaft. Center distance is fixed: 85,5mm. I would like a ratio of 0,5 with 22 and 44 teeth. My gears seem to hit each other. Please find the attached pictures below for a detail and my inputs.

I enter in the Addendum, Clearance, and Pressure Angle and it says that the values are Ambiguous Inputs. Is there any way that I can create this gear? it doesn't matter about the Loads, Material Values, and Inputs in the Calculations tab.

I will post a picture when I have a chance, but what I am looking for is the 'W' figure (distance over 'x' number of teeth at the pitch line). What I have is a 19.xxx deg. helical gear so the best way to get this info is calculate it, but again, I dont see it in the inventor calculation.

I am creating a couple of spur gears using the "Center Distance" design guide. I have fixed each gear to a cylindrical face, but when I click on the "Calculate" button, there is an error saying that the center distance is incorrect.
I went back and edited my sketches so the center distance matched the one displayed in the design accelerator and attempted to calculate again, but the error persists. What am I not getting here?

When I rename a part, the iproperties field under project>part number does not change. If there is a drawing for the part, the part number in the drawing reflects the old part number.

I am trying to achieve an automated rename and save process for an assembly file as well as the variable parts in the file.an example would be a steel column...
Open ilogic steel column, run rules to change column length and section size...then save a copy to workspace, but also to a specific folder in the workspace..also rename the column file and save.

Which works fine to save the new assembly, but i need the same for the variable column within the assembly, and also to save to a specific folder not just the workspace top level.
I wanted to rename one of the default layer, "Visible," to "CUT" since that's what our plasma cutter looks for.
However, I created a copy of Visible named CUT. Now when I open a new drawing, I get the usual, "The following definitions in template Blah differ from the definitions in the style library..."
I know I could update each template, but I'd rather just delete the copied layer in the styles library. However, I don't see how. Any tips on removing my extra layer with out starting from scratch? Or how to rename a default layer?

I'm currently creating a procedure to manage a standard part library.
For that, I'm trying to import downloaded STEP files from suppliers online libraries, and some of these STEP files contain assemblies.
I can open them as wanted in Inventor (1 .IAM and .IPT files), problem is I can't edit .IPT names. I can only rename them in Windows, but I would like to rename in Inventor before saving for the first time.
I would like to have something like that, with "Assembly" the assembly name:
Assembly.IAM
Assembly_1.IPT
Assembly_2.IPT
Assembly_3.IPT
...
How can I do that without renaming in Windows?

Before we started using Vault we had to define the filename and include the description in the filename to be able to find and resuse the part. The filename was combined with article no and description. We would now the filename to be only the article no.
Example:
100056 - Bolt hexagon head M5x16 A4 DIN933.ipt
should have filename:
100056.ipt

how to create an iLogic rule that automatically renames the browser nodes based on part number. I know that this is a function in Inventor itself. The problem is that there is no built-in functionality to automatically change the default browser name to something besides part number. I've done a lot of digging and I came across the following code from an old thread discussing Inventor 2011. I am interested in 2013. I have a machine assembly with old part naming. Now we have a new part naming system. So i am supposed to rename all existing parts, assemblies to new naming system.
E.g. : A machine assembly with old names (lets say part1, part2..... part1000). It has to be renamed to new names (say item1, item2.....item1000).
"part1" should be renamed as "item1" and so on.
Design assistant is not a good option because its a lot of manual work, its same issue with using Vault.

As per the request of the other engineers however, this code cannot be based on a common renamed parameter. Also, since no one draws things the same exact way, it can't be based off of a common dimension parameter either. At least not in terms of d0,d1..etc.
Is there such thing as a code similar to variable=standard.extrusionextentslength that I can imbed within an if then that would pull this information from the model?
