AutoCAD Inventor :: Equal Parameters Returning Different Nominal Values?
Aug 22, 2013
Why do the two User Parameters in the picture return different Nominal Values? Apron_Length equation is 36" so why does "Slats" Nominal Value come out as 26?

if it is possible to increase the number of recently used values/parameters in the dimension dialog, during part sketching. For one part, I use approximately ten parameters that will be used repeatedly. When I'm done with one sketch and start with the next, only the last five parameters are in the recently used parameter list. (Create dimension --> select arrow on right side of dialog, see attachment Dimension_Dialog.jpg, excuse me for the poor quality ). It would be much more comfort to have more parameters in this 'recently used'-list.
Furthermore I'd like to know if it's possible to widen the parameter-list. In my case I've several parameters that start with the same prefix, followed by a differentiating suffix. When I create a new dimension, select the arrow on the right and select 'List Parameters', I have to adjust the width of this dialog every time to see the entire parameter. (see picture Dimension_parameters.jpg)

in iParts factory I would like to create part ## by setting common name and adding to it different values drawn from part parameters.
Please refer to attached image – common name in that example would be “DRILL” and description of the diameter and length automatically taken from parameters in columns “DRILL_D” & “INSERT_L”.

Is there any way in which the text of a text parameter, which is in the equation column, can be replicated into the nominal value column in the parameters table? I want to reference the value of the parameter in Custom iProperties but it always comes up as blank because it has no value.
I need it to update automatically, e.g not entering the value manually.

I want to create an i part which derives its length and width from pairs of snapped points in the assembly. These can be any two points not necessarily existing properties of any part.
My new part would then calculate its actual dims from these measurements. Can this be done in ilogic and how?

I use the "view" tab to create a half section view of an assembly. This works fine, but if I try to measure anything, move or select a component, or export image to a .jpg then it automatically returns back to "end section view" mode.
Without the ability to operate in a section view the it is impossible to constrain components that are placed deep inside of other components. This make this view function useless except for just looking at it on the screen. This worked in 2012 and will not in 2013. How do I correct this?

I am looking for a way to use the ATTIN/ATTOUT workflow to bring in data from an excel spreadsheet to drive the size of each of my block's instances. The block will be simple, a rectangle, with width and length parameters. For each entity in my excel/csv file these parameter values are spelled out. I know how to display these parameters in my attributes, but I don't know how, if I were to feed in these values, to drive the geometry. If there's a better way to take a list of width and length values to generate a series of blocks each with a rectangle containing its respective size.

I have just got this error message 'Error in reading RSe stream (4 not equal 0)' after checking out my assembly, and it appears the cause is a small hss part in Frame Generated frame.
The part appears in my tree in the frame assembly and it not showing up in my model, I can't delete it to brake the link.

I would like to add tree parameters to this part. One is a wire diameter. Another should be the length of the wire. The last should calculate the weight of the wire. Then I wish to set the mass of this wire part equal to this last parameter. Is it possible somehow?

I use 3D sketching frequently as a means to generate frames with the frame generator.
I notice that the constrain group no longer contains an equal length tool, as in a simple 2D sketch. This is where i would generally select two lines, and constrain them to be equal in length.
Is there a reason for this omission? Should I be worried that my menus are not showing the full options for constraints?

I would like the size of bearing to be included in addition to existing data to the File name, Part number and Browser name like for example the DIN 625 T1 does. I have copied the DIN 625 bearings to the custom library. I have added required info to File Name building and to the Part Number building in the custom library and now my Filename and Part Number are as I like to.
But I cannot find how to force the Browser name to be equal to Part number or File Name? [URL]

I have a feeling this goes way back to the first release of INV we had (release 14?). Basically the merged FG member length seems to be calculated using the member centre line instead of real lengths. See the attached Pack-N-Go.
The view on the left is a Merged FG member. The view in the middle is individual FG members based on a line of symmetry in the same sketch. Both are placed using the mid point option in the FG dialogue. The views on the right are the 3 separate members used for the middle view.
The Merged length shows 722 mm whereas adding the 3 member lengths (RH view) equals 740 mm. 18 mm short, or 2 sets of 9 mm (shown in the middle view) which represents the end cuts to the middle member in the RH view.

for example :
1st tag (50x50) - 2nd tag ( 100 ) ==> 50x50-100
if i enter 201 valuse to 2nd tag then 1 st tag has to change as 100x100
if i enter 501 valuse to 2nd tag then 1 st tag has to change as 150x510
I attached a jpg file for explain much better

Is there a way to have no layer value set for the description keys. I set all the layers, and now I realize I'd rather set this to no layers (boxes are all unchecked). I'd rather see no value under the layer column, but there doesn't seem like a way to set this.

Im wondering if its possible to link either a constraint dimension to an action parameter or vice versa. Or using a linear parameter's value in an user parameter formula.
Its a 2D cylinder, for winding purposes we just have a rectangle, with a distance from the Y axis for radial.
Parametric dimensions: B=thickness, C=Lenght, R=radius
User parameter: A=Diameter (R*2), Mass in kg ((((pi*(c*b))*(A+B))*1.25)/1000)/1000
For the BOM, i need A, B, C & mass
For drawing references for peoples on the floor, to distinquish a cylinder from a stick, we put lines at the top and bottom of the cylinder, 1mm distance inbetween them.
I figured that making a linear parameter + stretch on the thickness to replace the B parametric dimension, allowed me to make an array of that line, with increments of 1mm as i stretch the cylinder. The thing is that the mass formula cant take the value of action parameters....
Other alternative is to keep the B parametric dimension, and add a linear parameter as above for the array. But then i have 2 places to adjust, and from a test i made, if i change the R dimension, the linear one does not follow. Its very frustrating.
What i was hoping autocad would be able to do is distance1 for array to be same as B dimension, but it does not allow me to do that, unless im missing something.

I just had to replace my desktop computer, reinstalled AutoCad, set it up using a saved profile, everything was working fine until this morning when I came in and most of my buttons on the toolbars return "Unknown Command". Now even when I type in the command on the command line it doesn't recognize the commands. ie _layfrz Unknown command "LAYFRZ) I've gone in and "repaired" the program, shut down the computer for a full restart, to no avail.

I was wondering if it would be possible to do the following:
Parameters who can vary for lets say a rectangular profile with:
80x50x2
80x50x3
100x50x2
That these data sets/parameters are grouped/linked to eachother in the Parametric Table.
So when I'm doing my analyses with the profile of 100 and I change the wall thicknes from 2 to 3mm the 100 changes to the 80 variant automaticly, or asks me which version I want.
It would be handy to avoid mistakes with non excisting combinations of profiles.
Is there a custom app for Inventor that allows you to manage parameters easier? (Grouping wise to keep a better overvieuw.)

Creating User Parameters, can we use trigonometric functions? and can we add these to linear (mm) parameters?
Can we add the Values irrespective of Units i.e. Inch/ Deg/ Unitless
Example: d0 (In) = d1 (In) +d3[ul] + (sin(Variable_Angle))
In value = In Value + ul Value + deg Value

I have an iLogic rule that populates the fields shown below in our title block. The DIM. Values are strings set with H,W,L values. This works well, but I have an additional need to sort these values in ascending order, so the smallest value is first followed by the next largest and finally the largest value. (4.000x5.000x14.000). I haven't had much luck finding any information about how this can be done. I did however come across some code here that someone else was using for a similar feature.
Dim sizes As New List (Of Decimal)sizes.Add(bH)sizes.Add(bW)sizes.Add(bL)sizes.Sort()D1 = sizes(1)D2 = sizes(2)D3 = sizes(3)
This is what I have been attempting, though it does not work. I get the following error "Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection.
Parameter name: index". I'm not sure if my list type is correct (Decimal), but no matter what I choose it fails. The (bH,bW,bL) are the actual block dimensions pulled from the .ipt file. Once sorted I want the values of each position (1),(2),(3) to be assigned to (D1),(D2),(D3) so I can place them in my title block in the correct order.

I tried it 2 different ways shown below. The first way gives me this error..."Object reference not set to an instance of an object.". The second says "Unable to cast COM object.."
Dim oTG As TransientGeometry
oTG = ThisApplication.TransientGeometry
Dim EntityEndPt As SketchPoint
EndPtX = 0 * 2.54
EndPtY = 3 * 2.54
‘Code Fails Here!

I'm having some difficulties with iLogic and reference parameters.
I have made a tube with a weird shape and I want to measure the longest length. So I have to cut the tube in a certain angle in relation with the center to measure the length.
The problem is that this angle is really hard to calculate.
So I tried making a rule where I can make my angle shift x degree and then measure the longest length. If the measurement is larger the previous measurement the angle will shift x degree again until the measurement is smaller than the previous.
So I made my starting angle 0 degree, I know this is for a fact not the longest length. And then I tried this rule. (before making a While rule).
And I noticed that on screen the measurement changes. But the reference - parameter stays the same. So it gives me the measurement on the starting angle & after rotating it again gives me the starting angle.
How can I get the parameter to update itself in between?
Dim measurement_length As DoubleDim measurement_length2 As DoubleMessageBox.Show("Start angle ", "My iLogic Dialog", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Asterisk, MessageBoxDefaultButton.Button1)angle_measurement_spec = 0RuleParametersOutput()InventorVb.DocumentUpdate()measurement_length = [code].....

I wonder if there is an option to delete all at once like iLogic option-"delete all rules" or should be deleted individually.
