issue I'm having editing some drawings. I have been tasked with editing some drawings that were given to me in .dwg. I can open the files fine in Inventor 2011, but I cannot edit them. Do I need AutoCAD to edit the dwg files?
I have succesfully installed Autodesk Inventor 2011 (Student License) on my Windows 7 (64-bit) operating system without any errors. I can open Inventor 2011, but when I try to open a new or existing file, Inventor suddenly closes and the 'Autodesk Inventor Error Report'-window opens, giving the following error:
Error: Unhandled Exception
When I go to my project folders and try to open any inventor file, the following message appears:
"Inventor.exe needs to register with he operating system and the following programs (Explorer) are running and may prevent registration from succesfully completing. Autodesk recommends terminating the offending processes to ensure proper registration. Terminate these processes before continuing with the registration?"
If i cick 'Yes', the problem remains.
I've tried reinstalling, following the instructions carefully (installed as administrator), without success. I installed both service packs. I keep having the same problems, while in the past, it has been working perfectly, but I lost it because of hardware problems, which are now resolved.
Technical Info: OS: Windows 7 64-bit Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M430 @ 2.27GHz 4,00 GB RAM ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650
I have unchecked resolve file references, etc, and still basically spends 5 minutes looking for files i told it not to look for. Why doesnt it just open the assembly or drawing, without waiting for ever?
Someone in the office is running AutoCAD 2011 (Windows 7) and the program keeps closing itself just saying fatal error. It seems to happen when a command is entered, particularly while editing text which seems to close it every time. It's not limited to editing text though. It happens on multiple files as well. I've read there were some issues with 2010 closing while editing text but I can't seem to find anything about 2011 having problems with it. She restarted her computer and it seems to be working now, but this has happened in the past and the problem will come back.
I've been looking for a while and managed to find 2 VBA scripts for replacing values in a title block. However one errors out on the line that is supposed to do the replacing and the other works off an ID number which isn't consistent.
I'm a proficient scripter but not in this language, so how these scripts are working but not the intricacies of them. Which Is exactly what I think is needed to get either of them working.
Function Test_UpdateTitleBlock()Dim oDoc As DrawingDocumentSet oDoc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocumentDim oTitleBlock As TitleBlockDim oTextBox As TextBoxDim oSheet As SheetFor Each oSheet In oDoc.Sheets Set oTitleBlock = oSheet.TitleBlock For Each oTextBox In oTitleBlock.Definition.Sketch.TextBoxes If oTextBox.Text = "<FILENAME AND PATH>" Then ' Errors here and doesn't replace text Call oTitleBlock.SetPromptResultText(oTextBox, "New Value") End If NextNextEnd Function
This throws an error on the line I have marked.
Function Remove_Filepath()Dim oDrawDoc As DrawingDocumentSet oDrawDoc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument' Create the new title block defintion.Dim oTitleBlockDef As TitleBlockDefinitionSet oTitleBlockDef = oDrawDoc.ActiveSheet.TitleBlock.DefinitionDim oSketch As DrawingSketchCall oTitleBlockDef.Edit(oSketch)oSketch.TextBoxes.Item(20).Text = " "Call oTitleBlockDef.ExitEditEnd Function
This one works great, except that it does a "dumb" replace because it looks for the Xth textbox and edits that. The problem is in a detail drawing I want to edit textbox 20 but in assembly drawings I don't want to edit any textbox. So how to get this to loop through the textboxes and compare the text to what I want to replace.
How to import shx and lin files from Autcad LT2011 to version 2013. Each time we upgrade over the years it has been a simple task of saving the 2 files into the program file/autodesk folder however when we try to do this with LT 2013 it doesnt recognise the files. They are from another program called Artisan which uses the Autocad platform. The file extensions are: Artisan.shx and Atrisan.lin.
Our structural firm is using 2011, and our office has received drawings that came out of 2014 twice in the past week (from separate arch clients). In both instances, we back-converted using DWG TrueView 2014, but upon opening in ACAD, none of the walls were showing up (although they do appear in the preview). One of my other drafters dealt with it the first time, and got it resolved, although I didn't get specifics on how. Naturally, the second time it happened, she was out, so I am seeing if the architect can back-save to 2010 on their end and send the file.
While waiting on that, I tried QSelect in the offending file, and in the list of items that comes up, there was, amid the usual Text, Line, Pline, Block, etc., something called ACAD_PROXY_ENTITY. I selected all (nothing was visible, however--usually you see grips at least when you QSelect things), then exploded, and the walls showed up.
I have had somewhat similar odd behavior from drawings coming from I think ADT (do they still make ADT?), where things like walls, doors and windows come in as something block-like (I think AEC OBJECTS?), and we have to explode them in order to control color and visibility of their constituent parts. Perhaps this is something similar?
At any rate, this seems like something that either shouldn't be happening, or that has a more obvious fix than having to qselect and explode invisible things to get them to show up.
i am using autocad 2013 student version at home and at college i am using autocad 2012. so when i create drawing in 2013,dosent open on 2012"it says incompatible version". i like to save all my dwg files automatically in 2011 format, i dont want to click save as and change it 2011 format.what i need is whenever i finsh working on drawing, if click save it should automatically save in 2011 format.
So we have inherited files from another company and there are some files which have begun crashing once the save command is initiated. Typically, the file seems to be saving for about 5-10 minutes, and then it gives a "FATAL ERROR: Cannot write to undo file (probably disk full)" alert. This obviously crashes the application without saving the file. The files that crash are the sheet files into which we have multiple xrefs which are overlays, not attachments. There are 4 xrefs in these files. I don't see why this would be a reason for the application crashing, but it's all I can think of that may be the problem.
When we try to open/save a file that was started in Land Desktop, we get significant performance slowdowns, lockups, and crashes in Civil 3D 2011. Most of these files only contain simple linework, labels, etc. (no Land Desktop surfaces, alignments, profiles created in project).
We've tested purge, purge regapps, audit, recover, Export to AutoCAD, and AECOBJEXPLODE (which produces errors). WBLOCK is not really an option in this case because we may have to reference multiple projects back to these original Land Desktop files.
I am unable to plot PDF files from my AutoCad 2011. Plots OK in Word etc so Windows 7 printer seems ok. Get error message : Job: - Canceled

Reviewing the ACA 2011 Curriculum for next year, I notice that Units 1 and 2 .dwg files are missing for the first two units. Is there a link to download the missing files?
When I import a photo file from CS6 for MAC, 1x2" at 300 ppi, into Word 2011 for MAC on my new MacBook Pro, the file is importing to fill the page width. When I import a similar file from my old CS2 on the same new computer, the file imports at the correct 1x2" size. I think there is some setting I need to change in CS6, but have been through every place I can find to look.
The view cube in INV2011 has the front view as the front view and the top as the top (I am using XY as top, and XZ as front). When I export to DWF everything gets turned on its side. XY is FRONT (previously TOP), top is upside down view of one of the sides. I've done the make current view home in 2011.
I'm trying to create a two sheet drawing showing the different states of manufacturing for a fabrication that is further machined. The first sheet would be the fabrication and the second sheet would show the final machining. Due to the complexity of the part, cramming everything onto one drawing is not a very good option. I was hoping to use Views or LOD but that won't work. Am I missing something? The part is not suitable for using the weldments option either.
When I save as DXF, I have to manually go into options on the save tab and click "default DXF configuration," otherwise it exports the file as a ZIP folder. I can't figure out how to save the configuration so I dont have to manually do that everytime, im sure it something simple, as it usually is..
I just installed IV 2011 and I am trying to record an animation in my .ipn file to a .wmv file. When I hit the record icon I give it a .wmv file name, hit save. Choose custom profile and set my bandwidth to (Custom) 500 and my pixel size to 1200 x 900 and hit OK. Then the animation dialogue box comes up and the record button is not depressed like it is supposed to be. I can record it with the default settings, but it looks horrible.
After running a rendering for an animation, I opened up the .wmv file to see that everything was a blur. The anti-alias was set to high, screen resolution to 1024x768, frame rate 25, and 1500 kbps. Is there something that I am doing wrong?
I just recently upgraded from WinXP64 to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 and everything is good… aside from the fact that everytime I save the files, it is realy slow
I never had this issue before (although when I think about it, I used to work on another Win7 station a few months ago and I had the same issue)
I think the reason is OS related as everytime I click on save, it “re-creates” the file from scratch… This is not much of a problem on small files… but I have scenes that are over 500MB each and it takes forever to save everytime (not that the scene unreliability is not enough!!!)
I am working back in forth between school, and my home student version of Maya. I just downloaded Maya 2012, and I can not open a file in 2011 that was created in 2012?? I already opened the option box under OPEN, and selected ignore version. And it still doesn't work. I never had this problem last semester with 2011 files, working with 2010 Maya.
I've found an issue with 3ds Max 2012, when I open/upgrade my 2011 scene, max will crash immediately and every time. I used a 'binary search' approach to figure out what part of my 2011 file/scene was failing to import by exporting half of it, importing it and seeing if it crashed, if so, I'd split that half in half again and repeat until I got down to the offending object. I managed to get down to a single Loft object, which when exported (Save As > Save Selected) just on it's own would cause 2012 to crash on opening it.
It's not a biggy for me as I can just delete the offending object and carry on.
I'm not quite sure why there isn't a try-catch block around the entire import/load file function inside 3ds max, so that if/when max exceptions it won't bring down the entire application? I guess making this a safe transactional operation would be fairly difficult.
So I have set up a new style for rotate balloon text in Inventor 2011. But I am running into a problem when I pull the balloon away from the view to have a leader it does not stay rotated.
