I'm making a throttle body spacer in 2013 For some reason I can't get a hole made on the side of the extruded side.I place a general point on a new 2d sketch and no luck.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had this problem intermittently for a few weeks since going to Inventor 2013 SP1.1. I have a part within an assembly and that part has holes created in it before assembling it with other parts. Now when I try and create a hole table in a drawing of the assembly I cannot select hole edges and the hole table is blank when trying to create it automatically from view selection. I originally thought it may be an alignment issue but I have since aligned everything correctly and it still persists. I can create the hole table if I import in just the part into the drawing but it will not allow me to create the table on the whole assembly.
I can also create the hole table if I use "centred pattern" and create cross hairs on all of the holes however it does not give me correct annotations for the holes as shown in attachment and I can manually change the annotations but seriously this should not be required. As shown in the screen shot it reads as A1 down to K1 instead of A1 to A10. .
I need to make a plate 12"x12", 1" thick with a 3" hole in the center.
How do I "remove" the hole?
The objective is to section a part, selecting a center of the hole (side view, not top view) to attach the section line.
In the hole's top view we can select the center hole to attach the section view, but in the side view, i can´t find any attach point, even if i have a center line.
I know we can edit the section line later and create some construction lines to center the section line with the hole, but i wonder, there's a better process, more automatic, to achieve this?
How do I cut into the side of a circle that has been extruded and subtracted?

I am creating a cross dowel nut (also called a dowel nut) that looks like a barrel with a threaded hole on the side. This nut is intended to be inserted into wood and connect with a screw. Is it possible to create this cross dowel that also contains the hole surrounding it so when I insert the part into an assembly (a sheet of wood), the hole is created as well?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to patch up a bunch of small holes in a derived assembly. I've tried going to the options tab that comes up when deriving the part/assembly and plugging in values for the range of hole sizes to be patched, but I get no results when clicking ok. I have scaled down the assembly to 1/10 the original size. I set the range of holes to be patched from 0 to 0.25". The diameter of the holes in the assembly are only 0.017" after scaling down.

I had trouble uploading a screenshot of the part, awful drawing. Essentially the hole through the side of this crudely drawn cylinder is what I need to add. I am using AutoCad 2000.
Here's something that should be simple, I want to create a template for cutting a square hole 125 mm on a side.
I have gone into Drawing Utilities and set the units to millimeters. I drew a square 125 units on a side.
In paper space, I selected a template that is 11" X 17". I set the scale to 1:1. I thought that that would give me a sheet I could print out ledger size with a 125mm square drawn on it, but no, it is not even close. As near as I can figure, the square is 125" on a side in paper space.
I'm using PS 6 and I would like to know how I would create a page with two photos side by side.

I've got a template with a set of Object defaults for an Inch drawing and a set for a Metric drawing. I've just noticed that within my metric set, if I insert a hole table with tapped holes, the font on the tapped holes doesn't match the other hole types. I'm searched around, but all the settings for the hole table style reference the same text style. (Please see the attached image.)
So is there a way to set a certain hole type to have a certain font or size within a hole table? Because if there is, I'd obviously like to remove it..... But I can't seem to figure out where the issue is.
I am trying to add a hole to an existing hole chart. I drop the part into a new drawing, set the ordinate "zero", and add a hole chart by selecting a few holes. When I attempt to edit the chart: click chart, right click "edit", click add hole, select new holes, right click to create, the "create" selection is greyed out and all I have to choose from is cancel. I searched the forum here but could not find a reference to this a know issue. Am I doing something wrong or is this a glitch of 2013.
We are running win7 x64 machines and this happens on both the 2013 Ultimate and Premium editions of the product.
Question: Is it possible to control the Hole Dimensions called out on the Hole Chart? As in controling leading/trailing zeros for main hole dim, alt home dim and tolerances? Can you combine the Main Dim with the Alt dim in a single column, separated with parentheses? (same with tolerance?)

Is there a way to extrude a cut through an assembly but only cutting the parts I want cut? I am using Inventor 2012. Basically I want to use a part in the assembly as reference for the cut. But I do not actually want to cut that part only the surrounding parts.

For example, If I create a shape ie. a 10mm square and extrude the shape to a length of say 100mm, and want to miter either end at 45 degrees so as I can join them to create a 90 degree angled piece....
How do I angle the end of the extruded piece?
I know it can be done with a simple chamfer but this is not ideal when dealing with more complicated shapes.

I have two simple parts: an (almost) rectangular prism and a simple polygonal extrusion. The polygonal extrusion needs to be situated inside the prism, so I placed them in an assembly constrained the polygonal extrusion made a sketch on the extrusion with a simple 1/8 outward Offset of the profiledid a Model > Modify Assembly > Extrude using the profile and Through All selected removed the polygonal extrusion as a participant to get the desired effect (in the photo, the offset is enlarged for clarity):
This works perfectly at the assembly level. However, I would also like this cut to be propagated to the rectangular part itself (the part through which the cut passes). When I open the part file, I still see the original part without the cut. Is there a way I can cut the part itself without recreating the shape in the part to be cut?
I've tried using Model > Create > Derive with the intention of using Model > Modify > Combine with an operation mode of Cut, but when I Derive the part, it is placed in the wrong location:
I have draw in DWG the front view of a ship's frame. I've closed the loop in inventor and extruded the object but I am unable to sketch on most of the surface to complete the side view..??
I can only sketch on one section the upper and lower sections it won't allow me too.
The top should be offset to the right but I am unable to draw the sketch onto the fame.

It is a simple rectangular plate with 13 holes through on a pitch circle.
I have used a "circle" to construct the "Pitch Circle" and a "line" to construct the top dead centre of the circle.
I have then added a circle to use as a hole feature and used the circular pattern to make the holes equi-spaced around the circle.
This circle is then extruded "Through All".
My question is, How can I eliminate the construction "Circles" and "Lines" from the following code, only allowing sketch entites that are directly associated to an extruded feature to be accepted?

I am trying to assemble an extruded tube that has holes drilled, to a flat plate to be bolted together. when i go to assemble the parts the drilled holes will not highlight to attach the plate to.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter creating a solid and made some cutting, notching etc. the finished length is not the same as the initial extruded solid. so to get the length of the final solid ,
1. I would project geometry , and get the extreme end to get the finish length,this reference dim is now shown in parameter,
2. Go to parameter and change this ref dim name to "length" ,
3. Check the export box ,
4. Right click this ref dim to change the custom property format
5. Where i would uncheck the "units string" box
All these steps to extract the length of a single part , so just imagine if my assembly consist of 50 parts, i would do this 50 times! and usually i have almost a hundred assembly to work everytime.

how can i change color of the extruded items becuase when i view it from the top it doesn't look like if anything is extrude. you would have to look from the side to tell if its extruded.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am new Inventor user (2014 version) trying to get up to speed on best practices and the most efficient work flows. I find myself designing individual parts that start off as base AISC shapes (angles, square tubes, rectangular tubes, etc.). These are parts that start off as base extrusions that then have multiple machining operations performed on them. In most cases, the parts are stand along parts that aren't involved in any type of frame.
In these cases, I generally sketch the profile from scratch using my AISC book and then extrude. I'm sure this is silly. Frame generator already has the profile data built in- so why am I sketching these profiles from scratch? But using frame generator in an assembly environment to make a single member part seems silly to me also. Why should there be an assembly file at all? I just want a single part that starts off as some length of some standard profile. Using frame generator in an assembly environment seems like overkill.
What is the best practice for starting off a part with some length of a standard ANSI, ISO, or other profile?
