AutoCAD Inventor :: CFG Files For Wiring

Nov 29, 2012

I can't seem to find the .cfg files that supposedly come with autocad Inventor to manipulate and export wiring information.  I've done a complete search of all my autodesk folders but it just doesn't seem to be anywhere.

Is there a place online where this file is mirrored and can be downloaded or copied?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Creating Wiring Segment

Jul 24, 2012

Another question about the Cable and Harness module.  When I am trying to create Segments, I can never select cylindrical features.  Using the Tube and Pipe module, I can select them no problem, but for some reason under Cable and Harness I cannot.

This is a huge pain for me for two reasons, all of our wire loops are cylindrical, and I am unable to place a segment off of an already existing Flexible Hose or other Electrical segment.

Is this a limitation of the Cable and Harness module, that you cannot place segments relative to a cylindrical feature?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Ballooning Wiring / Split Balloons

May 17, 2010

(check out the attached .bmp for clarity)

I need to either add a custom balloon to a 3D wiring harness (made of individual wires) or add a split balloon (showing item number then sheet number) to my layout. What I have now is a 3D harness with all my connectors shown on it and a balloon calling out what connector it is. I want to attach a custom split balloon to my connector callouts to reference the wire and sheet number of another sheet in the same project. I should also mention that there are tons of connectors that as far as Inventor is concerned is the same model.

I've already created a user symbol to attemp to work around it but I can't attach the custom symbol to the existing balloon.

Secondly, why can't I attached a balloon to the 3D harness anyway. I also can't add a balloon to the nailboard view either!

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Generate Cable With Wiring And Connectors All Existing Together In Assembly

Feb 21, 2013

I've been creating documentation for cable assembly for many years now and I am trying to determine a way to use the Inventor Cable and Harness feature to accomplish the same detailed drawings as I previously made by hand.  The first thing I notice is that the connectors do not exist at the cable level, even though this is how they will be manufactured.  Is there any way to generate a cable with wiring and connectors all existing together in an assembly that can then be documented in a drawing?

AutoCad :: What Line Types Used For Electrical Wiring In House

Sep 25, 2011

What type of line are you using to show electrical wiring in a house, I've used the arc line and I really don't like the flexibility of that, it want bend like I want it to. The next thing I'm trying now is to use a leader line without arrows, that works better, you can bend that little rascal all over the place.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Project Files Vs Assembly Files?

Mar 8, 2013

I am deep into my first Inventor project. I am approaching the point where I would like to make a comprehensive set of drawings with bills of material etc. I have discovered that all this time I have actually been working in one big assembly file. My main project file is NOT a project file (so I have discovered). It is a *.iam file.

So, my question is, should I create a project file, and then add my main assembly to it? Should one normally create a new Project file for each new job? What does one gain by doing this versus simply using the *.iam file?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Exporting Dwg Files From Idw Files

May 31, 2013

Does the exported dwg file always have to be a zip file?  I have tried save as a dwg file but it seems to be an Invnetor dwg which has the geometry as a block when opened with AutoCAD.  It is a little easier to explode the block in AutoCAD rather than open and extract the zip file, save the extracted dwg then delete the zip file.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Creating 3D PDF Files

Jun 7, 2013

I have searched this forum for a way to create 3D pdf files directly from Inventor or other "free" software but have not found anything that works very well. Today I found an answer, it is by using the Bentley Viewer.  I had to "Save Copy As" my Inventor .iam file to "AutoCAD DWG Files.dwg". Then open it up inside the Bentley Viewer, go to the "Print pdf" button and select the "Print to 3D" button. It will even show some colors.

AutoCAD Inventor :: XML Defaults In IDW Files?

Apr 16, 2013

I am currently using Autodesk Inventor 2013, but I noticed this same issue back when I used 2011 as well.

I created custom borders and title blocks for work, and have gotten those to a default template that I can open as a new IDW file on command, but the XML files used for that IDW are still linked to the default files located in the design data folder.

I have saved my company's custom settings such as line weights, dimensioning defaults, tables, etc. as a STYXML file, and have resorted to simply importing my company's defaults whenever I create a new IDW file, but I was wondering if and how to "re-link" the IDW file that I open to use my company's default settings instead of Inventor's default settings and then needing to import the STYXML every time.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Importing STL Files

Is Inventor compatible with STL files (probably not as I haven't succeeded getting them in)? I've got an object scanned and need this scan data as template to rebuild the object in Inventor. AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Use STL And Mesh Files

Sep 7, 2011

We are trying to use 3d scanned data in Inventor to facilitate our design process. We don't need perfect and good looking 3d scanned models ready to produce, but we need some accurate measurements from holes and faces that we can use to design our own products.

So mine problem is: How I can get those scanned meshes to Inventor that I can get some dimensions from it, project some geometry to my sketches, add some constraints between scanned surface and mine designs, etc...?

I have tried some Add-Ins like Sycode's STLImport and Sycode's software called Mesh To Solid to get those mesh files open and I can open those "converted" files in Inventor, but those are only some kind of surfaces called Composite or Surface which consist of tiny triangles.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Prep CNC Cut Files

Nov 27, 2013

When I started prepping CNC files, it seemed like an arduous task. I focus around woodwork and inventor focuses around metal so sheet metal exports to 2D flat files but parts don't. After various methods I decided to make my own method. This is what I do-

I set up various sheet formats as full scale 1:1 stock and sheet sizes
I add the sheet size or material stock size that I need
I made a vba routine to pop up a form and browse to the part. The routine then inserts the part at scale 1:1 on its largest face. Once the part is positioned, the pop up returns for the next part. ( the file path remains to prevent browsing every time )

When I'm done. I run another vba routine to export all sheets as autocad drawings. I have sketch symbols for grain directions etc and materials are preset in the iproperties during modeling.
