AutoCAD Inventor :: 2013 Appearances - Adding New Colors In Custom Library
Jan 8, 2013First, I have not grasped the extent yet of how the new appearance library works.. we don't get crazy with colors, reflections etc.. but we do have a handful of colors that we use on the machines we use.. so instead of using the default appearance library, i made a new appearance library. All this went well, but i periodically as i need them will add colors to it.. problem is that i'm obviously doing something wrong, because my colors don't always stay in there after i restart Inventor.. and yesterday, i can't seem to keep any of the colors i setup in there to stay.. all i want to do is copy specific colors from inventors appearance library.. drag them into mine, rename them, maybe tweak the color, and then they be there for next time.. why won't they stay?
The edit pencil will come up on my library.. i've done the release edit after i'm done.. everything works in this inventor session, but if i turn inventor off and back on again.. they are gone.. only thing i have thought of remaining is that 3 users on our network share the same design styles location so we all our using same stuff, so is the file inventor uses in design styles to save to read only or something, but i read that appearances aren't saved in design styles.. How to do this and the colors stay and populate through all the existing stuff.. I have got the colors to lock into my template ipt in the doc appearances.. and i've done the save to custom library thing.. works until i restart inventor..

Jul 12, 2013I have been recently put in charge of all things Autodesk at my company. We have just installed 2014 software on our machines and I'm told that I need to migrate the styles library from 2013 to 2014. Here's the thing though, we have our Inventor templates and design data on a network drive for all to access.
I see where there is a style manager included in the Tools of Inventor but I open it up and I can't make heads or tails of it.

May 22, 2007I made some changes to layers and line scales in our idw template and then saved them to the style library to keep things synchronized. When I started a new drawing I got a style conflict message as if I had not saved the changes to the style library (see attached). My project file is set to Use Style Library =Yes, and what's more strange is that only six of the layers didn't update in the style library while the rest did? These six layers indeed show they need to be updated in the style library when I went back into the template, but when I update them the same thing happens.

Jul 18, 2013I make an idw template at home and at work i get this message that says style library will override the listed styles, and enables me to choose if i want to impose the style library or the styles in the template.
I want to impose the styles in the template and the message says that in order to achieve that i have to delete the styles.
Which styles to delete and how?
When i use the purge styles command it's empty.
I understand that duplicate names of styles make the problem, but at home i checked 2 of the styles and found them the same as at work, but maybe i don't remember all the changes.
Is the solution simply to make new styles with new names?

Nov 6, 2013How do I make a style in the library standard? I made new styles in the library for a revision table and parts list, but when placing them in an IDW I always get the standard tables.
It's not a big deal to change it in the format tab after placement, but when having 50+ sheets/daily its getting annoying.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Style Library Creation / Migration?
Apr 18, 2012I am looking at moving from controlling my Styles in template files into a Style Library. So how exactly would I best do this? Create a new Style Library in the Style Library Manager, set it in "Style Library 1" (this makes the new Style Library "active", yes?), open my template files, and under the Manage tab, "Save" the document styles to the new Style Library? Should I then delete my Document Styles from the template?
When you get a new release of Inventor, how do you generally go about pushing your Style Library into the new release? Do you just copy-paste the old Style Library from the old release "Design Data" folder into the new release "Design Data" folder? Do you start a new Style Library in the new release, compare to the old Style Library, and push the old into into the new?

Nov 4, 2011I am trying to turn the style library off in inventor 2012, I can't seem to be able to do this. I know in the past version I simply turned it off in the project editor, but I only have the read-write option now. All my drawing settings are saved to my Template, when i open the template, it changes to the style library settings, which I don't want.how to save my settings to style library this is why I have never used it.

Sep 7, 2012I have copied the "Diamond Plate" from the Inventor Apperance Library to my document. Now I want to edit the texture that this style is using.
1. Where is the texture map that this style using located? When I edit the style, I can't tell what is telling it the filename. I have mundged every file on my hd that it could possible be (hoping it would cause an error), but that didnt work either. Another thing I tried was in the QAT "Duplicate as Generic", but that did not show me the texture file either.
2. Is there a way to change the angle of the texture?
AutoCAD Inventor :: Set Up All Of Style Colors To Drop
Mar 31, 2011I want to print grayscale but our logo in colour. I have set up all of the style colours to drop into AutoCAD and match our current AutoCAD drawing standards as far as I can see, I have a couple of options
1. Save as Autocad and print from there
2. Remove our sketched logo and embed a raster, (not keen on), then select the "all colours as black" option when printing, (still doesnt give me greyscale)
3. copy the sheet and manually change each dimension, note, view etc to a different standard, copy back to sheet 1 and use a rule to turn different layers on and off, (sounds like hard work)
How others handle the lack of printing options. Again, I am dismayed by the lack of coherency between Inventor and AutoCAD, the sales pitch is such BS.

Sep 29, 2011I use a style library. Have it in a read-only mode in the ipj file. My drawing created a new template with a rev table with required columns.
Now, I create a new drawing file and choose this template. add few views, insert a rev table. The rev table columns headings are the same as in the template. But the column widths aren't same as in the template.
I use manage->update. It warns me that the drawing would be matched as per the style library. I agree & OK.
No use, the columns are not same size? Though the style is read only from the drawing, I go to open the style editor to check the column widths. They are different from the template.

I have created and defined the material in Autodesk Simulate Mechanical and they are available in the material libraries in that program, but inaccessible in Inventor. It doubles my work load if i need to define the materials in both programs and also creates hassles if a change needs to be made to a single material.
The materials are currently saved in .mlb library files. Iventor requests a .asklib file for when trying to add a library.

Aug 8, 2012We are have been using Inventor to draw wooden furniture for a couple years, and have a custom appearance library with several different finishes (using photos of actual finished pieces of wood). Every now and then a part (ipt) takes a notion to not change to the color we set it to, seemingly without ryhme or reason. This mostly occurs with mirrored parts, but occasionally a standard (not mirrored part) will do this as well.
We have done all the obvious things, and some not so obvious. The path to the photos and the library is added to the project, and I opened the Appearance Browser and checked to make sure appearance knows where to find its bmp file, and it still doesn't do it to change color. And yes, I tried restarting my computer, because a couple days ago I was working with the Appearance Browser, and sometimes restarting Inventor made a difference in whether certain things worked or didn't work. This is also not limited to one computer, it acts like this on all of our computers.
We are using some png files and some bmp picture files. Would the file format maybe have something to do with it ?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Setting Default Dimension Styles Different Than Object Defaults In Style Library
Apr 5, 2012We have, as our standard library default dimension style, a 1/32 fractional style, called "1/32-FRACTION". Various Object Types, like Linear Dimension are set to this Object Style. When I create a drawing, then these Object Defaults are in effect.
This means that, doing nothing while executing a dimension command, I get fractional dimensions by default. This works good.
However, sometimes I want to create a drawing where the default dimension style is "X.XXX-DECIMAL" without changing the Object Defaults found in the style library. I've tried to make the changes from within the style library and then save this as a template. However, when I try to make a drawing based on this template, Inventor states that the styles in the template differ from the styles in the library" and then busily goes about undoing what I careful did.
So I'm hoping there is something in the API I can call on to do this with a macro. Is it possible to write a macro that after you start a drawing, flips all the various Object Styles from "1/32-FRACTION" to "X.XXX-DECIMAL"?

We have set our iam/ipt templates to have some custom properties which we wish to display in the view label when the view is created however there this no way to add these properties to the label.
I find this a little strange as you can add these user Properties to the parts list in the style library? (I've added some screen caps to show what I am talking about)

Oct 26, 2012I work with a AutoCAd drawing that's been drawn in LisCad, then Output to AutoCAD for continuing work.
I want to use a font that a collegue used on his drawing (he used Microstation but all our drawings are first done in LisCad), I have it in the AutoCAD font library, but for some reason it doesn't show under properties in the STYLE drop box in my drawing... Is that because my drawing comes from Liscad?
I guess I can copy a word from another AutoCAD drawing to get it in, but if I can get in into my drop list it would be handy!
AutoCad :: Modify Point Style Or Library?
Jul 10, 2012I would like to change the look of the point that I draw ni autocad.
When i draw a point (1 on the joined picture), I can choose different style (point, circle, square, ...) and increase or reduce the size (2 on the joined picture)

but the model stay allways thin, i would like to modify my point to look like the 3 ont the joined picture.
I know that 20 models are allready a lot of choice, but is there a possibility to modify the library of the point?
