Does inventor allow you to place the flat pattern of 2 different parts on the same drawing? We have instances where we have items 01 and 02 detailed on the same drawings(carry over from board days, and other CAD system) and need to show a flat pattern of them both but Inventor will not allow us to choose the flat pattern view for the second part.

I am having nearly 30 to 20 flatpatterns in .dxf format I just want to confirm whether the scale is 1:1 or not that just a cross verification. What is the best practice to check?

these two curved parts are adjacent but have different unfolding strategies so Inventor makes me seperate them. I would like to cut these parts out on my cnc as one piece - but I am having difficulty accurately joining these parts.
(one is a curved part & one is a twist - both can generate a flat pattern)
I can make drawing views of both parts in their flat pattern state but I don't know how to (or even if it is possible) to connect these two parts and export them like one piece. I have tried to export to .dxf & then import into a new part file - but that was a big mess.
I can import the .dxf into ACAD & then join them but I would like to keep as much in Inventor as possible.
I have an iLogic rule that automatically adds center lines to cylindrical elements and holes. It runs on save. Is there a way to
A) Make that rule loop through each sheet in the drawing file? Right now it loops through each view on the active sheet and I'm not sure how to get the total sheet count to make another loop for that.
B) Is there a way I can conditionally check if the view is a flat pattern or not? I'd like to use an IF statement to exclude applying the center marks to the flat.
I'm trying to get Inventor 2012 (64 bit) to show the complementary angle to the bend angle in the bend annotation on a flat pattern within a drawing. I.e. the bend annotation shows: "10 UP" for a ten degree bend. I want it to show: "10 (170) up, where 170 degrees would be the complement to that angle, automatically. I know I could type it in, but then it will not update itself if I change that angle.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to write an external iLogic rule that will export the unfolded model of a sheet metal part in a drawing from a rule triggered in the .idw. These drawings will contain only one model reference. The reason for doing this from the drawing are as follows:
1) The location of the resulting .stp file must be the same directory as the .idw file. our file structure does not co-locate these files so the drawing path is required to locate the .stp file.
2) The current Drawing Rev level is to appended to the .stp file name. We do not populate the Rev iProperty in the part.
I have scabbed together some code from verious deep dark corners on the internet and Have arrived at the code posted below, but It errors during the .stp file creation with the following:

I have a weldment which includes a sheet metal part called sPart. I want to show a detail of the flat pattern of sPart on the weldment drawing and still be able to balloon the flat as the part of the weldment. So I clicked to add base view and selected sPart from the Preparation dropdown list under the Model State tab of the Drawing View dialog box. The problem is I cannot find an option for using the parts flat pattern.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a simple sheet metal part that does not require explicit bend radii. We leave it up to the shop to fab this part up as long as it's final outcome is within tolerance. We don't normally include a flat pattern, simply because it could cause confusion when cutting a blank. I use the default bend allowance and bend radius, which gives the exact blank size and bend locations. But our local fab shop probably doesn't/won't use the correct tooling to provide the exact bend radius, so this will throw off the final outcome if the blank was cut using the flat pattern dimensions.
I can apply the flat pattern to my drawings, because there is some sheet metal components we have that require the flat pattern to show cut profile features.
is it possible to change a 'flat' drawing into an isometric type of drawing? I currently have an end view of an item that I need to draw in isometric, but it's fairly detailed with curves etc and will take a long time to draw again from scratch in isometric...

I opened a drawing that I had not opened in over a month originally created in AutCAD 2011, and now using 2012. It appears only some of the hatch patterns that I created are now duplicated, and in some cases up to 17 times! When I select the pattern it doesn't show that there are multiple hatches underneath, but when selected it shows in the properties box All(2) or more. One of my patterns was scaled down and rotated 90 degrees and because when I select it it's showing 10 entities selected I cannot scale it back or rotate it without deleting and re-hatching. The .dwg is pretty complex so doing this for every hatch that shows multiple would be very tedious.

Since I am creating the output file manually I gather the flat pattern boundaries and bend center lines for output to a file.
When I add flat pattern sketch entities to the mix they do not overlay properly. What matrix would I have to push the sketch entities through to get them to the same coordinates as the flat pattern?
To be able to folderize component patterns seems to have been surpassed once again in release 2012. However, I am wondering if this is a setting issue yet I cannot find settings for what can and cannot be placed in folders, if they exist. And I wonder if it is a setting issue because during a training class I visibly watched the trainer place component patterns into a folder and once I still cannot do so.

I have big assembly and I want to get quick selection by cube or sphere or simple window. But if some elements (parts or assemblies) are in the pattern, they also selects. I don't need these other elements in the pattern.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI can easily move component patterns into a folder as long as all patterns are sequential in the browser. However if I create another pattern that belongs to the folder but is created after the original patterns I cannot add it to the folder. If I delete the folder and select the patterns I get an error message if I try to add them to a new folder (remember the patterns are not sequential). I cannot move a pattern in the browser once created and if I move the part into the folder and then create the pattern it moves it back to the bottom of browser. The net result is I end up with a lot of 'orphaned' patterns.

I want to be able to use the same dimension parameter as a previous component pattern to create a new component pattern. Is there a way to be able to do this? On features, you can use the Show Dimension and then select the dimension you want. With rectangular patterns I don't see a way to do this and there is no way to even note which parameter it gave it as it is being created. I guess I could name the parameter on the fly and then use that same name, but was wondering if there was a different way.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm stuck on a few different emboss cases. The following examples are just dumbed-down models to learn from. If it matters - I'm actually embossing patterns on more complicated parts - not text on primitive shapes.
Case 1: Emboss across several surfaces. Please see attached file "Wrap Emboss 1". I can wrap to a face - but not all three faces on the solid that I want my "TEST TEST TEST" message to span across. My embossed text goes off into space - it doesn't wrap around the edge of the solid as desired.
Case 2: Emboss text (or some other arbitrary shape) onto a single (but compound) surface. Please see file "Compound Emboss 2". If the curvature of the part isn't significant - there are a few ways to fake/trick out the model to get a passable result. BUT - when the curvature of the surface is significant relative to size of the text/pattern to be embossed - I haven't yet found a solution that doesn't wildly distort the embossed feature. As the surface of the part is compound - I can't use the "Wrap to Face" option without an error. The resulting embossed feature is unacceptable.
I have created parts, assemblies and drawings . How can i create 2D flat cnc drawings of the components for production? i am in woodwork and manufacturing not metalwork so the whole metal facility in inventor is a little redundant.
Description required on the best process or any process to create 2D cnc drawings from the components? Now, when i say drawings, i do not mean CAM integration. I mean 2D .dwg files of the component that would show say rebate lines, drill holes etc.
My next challenge with my rolled cone bottom is to place an oval in the cone that will give the right edges for the lazer pattern. If I create the cut while in the formed shape the edges are not perpendicular to the face in the flat pattern. If I place the cut in the flat pattern, it is suppressed when the part is returned to the formed state.
In other packages I would unfold the part, place the cut, and then refold it retaining the cut. How do we deal with this situation here?

I have an i assembly with some lengthy and unique ilogic to control what parts are included / excluded based on user inputs in a form. To begin, the program includes all components, and then excludes the ones that aren't needed. This is basically, briefly what the first part of that looks like:

So this works just fine, mostly. I run into an issue with the component occurrences that are within patterns (I have 2 patterns - 1 circular and 1 rectangular). This code will "Include" all occurrences inside an "Excluded" pattern, but the pattern itself remains "Excluded". In other words, in the browser, the pattern name appears greyed out and crossed out, but all the elements and the components within them appear "alive", so to speak. But the BOM indicates a Qty. of ZERO for these components since the pattern that.
I can toggle include / exclude of patterns using the same method:

But it seems I can't identify which patterns are excluded to start with, like:

Is there any way to move a pattern into an existing subassembly? I have a piping layout that I demoted into a subassembly, now I want to add the flange bolts/nuts that I patterned into that subassembly and it will not let me drag and drop like it does components. I am using INV Professional 2011.

I know Inventor is not capable of flattening embossed sheetmetal but is there a way to still get the flat pattern & ignore the formed areas?
Seems to me I was able to add some model features in the past like bosses, extruded holes KO's etc & I could still make a flat pattern.
I know I can use derived part to do it but that adds complications.

It's my first time using sheet metal in a drawing and I can't figure out how to show flat pattern in the drawing. When I insert the base view into my drawing, the bottom to "Sheet Metal View" to "Flat Pattern" is shown, but it's ghosted out so I can't select it. Is there something I have to do in the part drawing in order to activate this feature?
