AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Apply Grid Scale Factor When Importing From FBK

Mar 12, 2012

I have a couple of field book file related questions

1. Can you apply a grid scale factor to measured distances when importing from an fbk file? You can apply using coordinate transformation if importing from csv file but I need to use FBK files to allow the user to make changes to the observation data of the points. As far as I can see the translate survey database command allows you to shift easting, northing, rotation and elevation but not scale. There is mention of a workaround at the following link but I could not locate this on the Civil Community.

[URL]....

"The Survey Data must first be imported from the FBK into the Survey Database, then translated/rotated in the Survey Database using the Survey Addition available from Autodesk Civil Community website, or some other third-party solution."

2. Also on fbk files, I have manually typed in alphnumeric point ID's for the point number in the field (see fbk file attached, file extension changed). When importing the resulting fbk file into Civil 3D the point ID's come in under point name and I cannot determine where it is getting the point number from? Opening the fbk file in notepad I do not see any of the point numbers that are getting assigned to the points in C3D. Where these numbers are coming from? Also is it possible to import alphanumeric strings as point numbers using fbk format?

Using description keys would require manually entering in the point ID as an attribute with each point (it automatically appears if added as point number with incremental identifier). This doesnt seem like a big deal but tI may have up to 10,000 sections to survey with 250 points in each section so it would be time consuming.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Grid Scale Factor - Using As Parameter In Expression?

Sep 10, 2013

The neww line expressions for Grid distance are phenominal. My problem is getting them into curves. All I want to do is apply the grid scale factor to the curve length and radius, but I can't narrow down the parameter. The Drawing Scale conversion links to the annotation scale. I've also noticed people just scripting in the value, but that doesn't work when the majority of the office doesn't operate at that level.

Also, I work in grid and need to convert to ground. I noticed that the system only does ground to grid, so I'm inputting an inverted scale factor to get the results in need in my distances.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Import Points With Scale Factor?

Nov 20, 2012

To import the point along an alignment into Civil 3D, I need to introduce a scale factor. But by adding the Scale Factor column to the points and modify one of the formats in the Civil 3D to accept the scale factor, change was not affected to the initial state (without adding a column to a scale factor). I got the points, regardless of the scale factor and now, I want to add a scaling factor for the points.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Working On Edge Of MGA - Scale Factor Changing Slightly

Dec 2, 2013

I have a client who is working on the edge of a MGA coordinate zone - as they are near the edge of the zone their scale factor is large and needs to be factored in to all setouts (it makes 50mm of difference over 100 metres.)

their previous solution has been to work day to day at 1 to 1 scale and then xreference this back into a MGA projection by using a scale factor around a single point false origin.

As they are moving away from this false origin - the scale factor is changing slightly.

Is it possible to create a user grid at 1 to 1 for the day to day use and then query this into a MGA drawing. via ADEQUERY to bring it back to MGA ?

AutoCAD 2013 :: Scale Command Message - Extremely Small Scale Factor Ignored

Apr 13, 2012

I have just updated to Autocad 2013. While working on existing drawings (previously created in V2012), I am having issues with the SCALE command.  Most times, but not always, when I add a line or block, with a base point on an existing line or object and try to scale it, I get an "extremely small scale factor ignored" message, although I did not get a chance to enter a scale factor.  While it appears most times, but not always, if I draw a new line in empty space on that same drawing, I am able to use the SCALE command without problems.  I also have the same issue when trying to scale an existing line or block, most times but not always.

Here is a copy of the command line while I am trying to make it work:

Command: l
LINE
Specify first point:
Specify next point or [Undo]: 100
Specify next point or [Undo]:

Command: sc
SCALE
Select objects: 1 found
Select objects:
Specify base point:
Specify scale factor or [Copy/Reference]:
Extremely small scale factor ignored.

Command:
SCALE
Select objects: Specify opposite corner: 1 found
Select objects: Specify opposite corner: 1 found, 2 total
Select objects:
Specify base point:
Specify scale factor or [Copy/Reference]:
Extremely small scale factor ignored.

If you notice, it does not give me the chance to enter a scale factor.  As soon as I pick the base point, it skips over to the error message, yet displays the scale factor prompt with a blank factor.  I'm experiencing this issue on various files (not all but most), so I don't think it is a corrupt file. Why I get this and if I can correct it?

AutoCad :: Understanding Drawing Scale And Scale Factor?

Jul 8, 2004

I am having some problems getting the hang of applying the drawing scale to my assignment. I understand the scale factor that is applicable to the printing only and that AutoCAD doesn't care about the units used...but something is not clicking here and I'm sure it is pretty simple. My assignment requires me to draw 3 simple structures at 1/8" scale on 11X17 paper. Each house is 20' long with 10' walls and each is done in absolute, relative, and polar. I actually completed the work with all 3 formats without specifying the scale or paper size, just to get familiar with the commands. But now that I am trying to set the dimensions correctly, I cannot replicate my work because I'm getting lost in the way things are defined. I am using AutoCAD 2005, also have a 2002 version to which I can defer.

I've gone into Format-Dimension Style and don't see what to correct in this area. Obvioulsy I can expand the drawn item by a scale of 12 to make my blocks fit but obviously screws up the dimensions...

When some off our users move the dimensions in paperspace or the drawing in modelspace,

only some off the dimensions would see the viewports scale factor, and multiply itself by that, from my knowledge this happens when you uses the power dimensioning in Mechanical, and the the annotative tick box is selected,  but for some reason one particular user he uses normal annotations when dimensioning, where there is no annotative functionally but the dimension still behave as mentioned.

AutoCad 2D :: Making Global Scale Factor And Linetype Scales?

Dec 3, 2013

I’ve got a series of third party drawings that are quite intricate, with a series of nested blocks, some of which cannot be exploded.

The issue i have is that they have been drawn with a global scale factor of 1. Our office works with a global scale factor of 10.

Is there a quick and easy way to make the global scale factor 10, but then somehow retain the scale of the third party drawing lines so they retain their look?

Trying to avoid either just drawing with a global scale factor of 1 (which is a pain as all our blocks are set up for global scale factor of 10) or going into each of the bound xrefs and making all line scales 0.1 (mammoth task given the amount of drawings and all the nested/unexplodable blocks).

How can I determine the amount of change from the initial font the text has changed after the fact?  None of the property boxes show you this information.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Grid Volume - Changing Grid Spacing

Understanding that composite volumes are typically more accurate, I have a reason to evaluate the volume between two surfaces via a grid volume.  Easily created a grid volume surface using a 50' grid (50' is large for this site, but wanted to get a feel for calculation time).

Question: Can you change the grid size without creating a new grid surface?  Ultimately I woud like to explore the difference in volumes based on grid sizing without creating a long list of surfaces.  One would expect that you could chage the grid spacing in surface properties, but the values are non-editable.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Text Scaling By A Factor In Model Space

Nov 21, 2013

For some reason when I edit text and dimensions in model space the text will go huge and my text is non-annotative. If i change it in properties box it does not multiple it or if I am editing text though a viewport it will not multiply.  Example - if I have style set to 4 (height) and I create mtext.

Then I decide that I want text to be 5 so I double click on mtext and highlight the text and change to 5 and the text will instantly be 200 not 5, but if I change in properties box it will stay at 5 or if I am in a viewport and change the text by double clicking and highlighting and then changing it to 5 it stays at 5.  My issue is for whatever reason only in model space is the text being multiplied by a factor and I cannot figure out why this is happening.

AutoCAD Architecture :: How To Adjust Grid Scale To Be Same As Units

May 6, 2012

I just installed autocad architecture 2012. when i opened it to start creating a new drawing/project the unit of measurement was in Millimeters.. i needed the Unit of measurement to be in architectural units, so i used the units command to change it to architectural units. the problem i am having now is that i think the Grid Scale is still in MM. when i tried to draw a line on the grid the line appeared to be tiny. the length of the line was 36'-5". i adjusted the scale to 1/4"=1' but that didnt change anything. in order to see the line that i drew i have to zoom in so much..

How do i adjust the grid scale to be the same as the units?

AutoCad :: Setting Page Size And Grid Scale?

Jul 18, 2013

I set up a new page thus (I live in a country which uses metric units, so ...):

Drawing Units Setting18-07-2013 9-24-06 AM.jpg

Then:

Command: '_limits
Reset Model space limits:
Specify lower left corner or [ON/OFF] <0.0000,0.0000>: 0.00,0.00
Specify upper right corner <3.5000,2.7000>: 3.65,2.74
Command: C
CIRCLE
Specify center point for circle or [3P/2P/Ttr (tan tan radius)]: 1000,1000
Specify radius of circle or [Diameter]: 250
Command:

and I get:

Range Problem 18-07-2013 9-36-57 AM.jpg

The circle was centred at x=1000 metres, y=1000 metres, yet it displays right down at the bottom left of my screen. Compare the radius of the circle to the distance from the centre to the origin - it's nothing like 1:4! Look at the coordinates for the cursor!

Zooming in and zooming out has no effect on the huge dimensions indicated by the coordinates.

I know this must be simple because it is not mentioned in any textbook or tutorial I have been able to find. Authors don't seem to think it is important, but it's driving me nuts! The question is this:

How do I set the page size and grid scale to something sane?

I am pretty sure that this scale problem is at the root of many of the other problems I am having. A14 is doing it's job faithfully but the display is so small that I cannot see what is happening !
