AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Style Importing From Another Drawing
Sep 14, 2012
In Civil 3D 2013 I'm attempting to import styles from another drawing. Whenever I select the Import button under Manage > Styles I get a warning box pop up that says "The drawing has unsaved modifications. Please save the drawings and then perform the style import again".
This occurs even after I hit save or reopen the drawing.

I customized a surface style to show relative elevations, with lighter tones representing higher elevations, and darker tones representing lower elevations. With a single glance, I know the high and low spots in my project area.
C3d provides several default surface elevation styles. None of them comes close to providing the instant, data-at-a-glance information that my customized style does, which I use to design stormwater systems. Again, it's really useful to see, with one look, where the high and low spots are in my project area.
I can't figure out how to export, transfer, copy, whatever, my customized style from one drawing to a new drawing. If I want to see my customized style, I have to recreate it from scratch in each and every drawing where I want to use it.
How to transfer a surface style from one drawing to another? By the way, I tried opening up both drawings, with both toolspace/settings windows open. Tried dragging and dropping the customized style to the new drawing. Didn't work.

Let's say you created some Label Styles, and want those Label Styles to be available in another existing drawing.
Do you have to insert the drawing (which has the desired Styles) into the existing dwg? I tried DesignCenter, but it does not seem to have the ability to import Label Styles or Point Label Styles.

Is there a way to search for a text style in a civil style? I have a text style that our company is trying to get rid of and I would very much like to not have to go through our 72 company styles.

I am trying to change the default label styles for AddSegmentLabel under general styles using .NET...
Dim X As Autodesk.Civil.Settings.SettingsCmdAddSegmentLabel = CD.Settings.GetSettings(Of Autodesk.Civil.Settings.SettingsCmdAddSegmentLabel)()
X.Styles.LineLabel.Value = strChildStyleName ... says name does not exist
or
X.Styles.LineLabelStyleId.Value = oidChildStyle ... "The type of objectId is wrong"
If I manually change it to a child style and then check the values, they are the same as what I'm trying to set them to. If you use a "parent" style then these both work. Am I doing something wrong or this another limitation?

I've plotted many drawings and I've always just taken it for granted that the plot style table that I typically use, monochrome.ctb, would be there to select in the plotting window. Usually, the drawings from my customer, have this option available to me in the plot style table when I get ready to plot. However, a few have come to me recently in which it was not available. Instead, the drawing had a monochrome.stb which does not plot out with a true monochrome appearance. I do not want this. I do not know how to get the monochrome.ctb style from my other drawings to work in my new drawings that only have monochrome.stb. I know very little about the different plot styles and how to modify them or import/export them. From what I gather by browsing this site is that you might be able to save plot styles to a folder in your computer and then import them to your drawing. Is this true? How I can get this monochrome.ctb to work in my drawings that only have monochrome.stb??

I am wondering if it is possible to do a style update (or style update check) upon open of a drawing?
The example would be that I have stuff made from way back that the colors/dimension sytles ect dont match the current standard and upon opening a file where they are not current, it would either prompt to update immediatly OR update automatically with no prompting (preferred method).
I am doing a massive amount of updates from old files recently and to save myself 1 - 3 clicks per drawing would be wonderful.

changing text style in a drawing. Let's say there is a drawing where the font style is standard, or the standard is overwritten in the text box (different size or font). I want to create a new text style which uses a new text size and font.
If i select the text which was created earlier and switch text style to the one i just created only the size of the text changes not, and the font remains the same.
But if i enter the text formatting box select the text and in style i select the one i created (even though is already selected) the font will change as well. The problem with this solution is the time needed to change every text in a large drawing.
If i use MATCHPROP the same thing, the size of the text will change but not the font.
Is there a way to change both the size and font of the text fast and easy?

As Topic explains, just realized ( to my embarrasment ) that I have just done every text in an entire drawing with text style "standard" instead of our own "ETR".
There is no difference in font/height/width or anything, reason I need to change it is because we need to send our drawing to our client in .dwg format and he will then copy everything we've done on the drawing and import it into his own drawing. Problem is if he doesn't use the same font as standard style as we do our text might be dislocated in some places.
Problem is many of my texts are attributes within blocks and they need to change too. Any quick and smart way to change every text and attribute on the drawing, nested or not to another textstyle?

I created a drawing template, saved on companies common drive, not local. When I created it I also created BOM to be filtered for certain iproperties. When I go "new" and open a new drawing file from the template I get the message about the style conflict and when open BOM in a new drawing I get default columns not the columns I set up in iproperties.
What is the process of setting up/changing styles?

I have a vector drawing of a logo, currently in adobe illustrator format. I'd like to create a 2D sketch in Autodesk Inventor and then insert this drawing into the sketch as a shape that can only be placed and scaled.
The way I'd expect this to work is essentially that I'd get a rectangle X enclosing vector object Y, and that I'd then be able to create a fully constrained Inventor sketch by simply constraining the corners of this rectangle X. Is it possible to do something along those lines, and if so what is the best practice for it?
What I tried, which failed, was this:
1. Converted the AI file to a .DWG file
2. Used the "Insert ACAD" command to place the file in Inventor with the Constrain End Points and Apply geometric constraints boxes checked (other boxes were unchecked)
3. Waited for a surprisingly long time for this operation to complete, maybe 30s on a 16GB 2.6GHz quad machine
The result of this operation is that I now see my imported geometry, BUT all vectors are treated as individual shapes and I have 2637 dimensions needed.

I got this weird issue when placing my custom made titleblocks in AutoCAD. All the attributes of the block jump to standard text style when placing it in my drawing. Allthough this ain't allways happening. It seems to me like there's a setting for this but i can't find out how.
It can happen suddenly too. Like when i open a new drawing and then add my titleblock, it's like it should be most of the times. Allthough when i start to edit the block (scale/move/copy,etc) it can change like you can see in the drawing below.
Offcourse, as a company, you do not want to deliver your drawings with a titleblock like this.

I am using the Autocad 2013 educational version. I have a drawing with a .ctb file. When i print, it is printing with the lines in colour. I would like the lines to print in black or grey. I assume I need to change the plotstyle to a monochrome.ctb plot style, but cannot work out how to change the plot style.
Is the plot style changed in the model or paper space of the drawing, or in the print menu?
- I have looked extensively under File/ print and can find nowhere to change a plot style.
- under File/ plot styles I can select from a list of .ctb files - but it only allows me to edit them - not apply them to the drawing.
- In the drawing under the properties inspector i can see a plot style menu and it is currently showing the option ' bycolour' when I click on the pull down options menu, there are no other options. There is also a 'plot table type; but it says this is ' not available'
-When i type plot styles in the drawing it brings up a bring s up an edit plotstyle table window, and this has a pull down menu that displays arrange of plot styles , but when I select one it only allows me to edit the plot style table and save and close. It does not actually apply it to the drawing.
