AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Sheet Print Area From Polygonal Viewport?
Oct 15, 2013
I am trying to create two column sheets with a polygonal viewport, but it doesn't seem to work. The point is that I want to use the area above the stamp to be able to fit two columns on one sheet, but the last section in the second column ends up where my stamp is. Is this possible? Is there another way to solve this problem? I'm not to keen on moving the sections by hand, since they keep jumping back.. I'm using Civil 3D 2013.

I brought a normal 4 sided viewport into my layout, but needed to clip and make a viewport with 6 sides. I have also tried to redraw this by using a polygonal viewport. When I go to plot the page, parts or all of the viewport boundaries are on. It doesn't matter if I go to layer control and turn the layer off or freeze or select the non-plotting icon.

I'm using 2008 and trying to get one side of my plots to be 1/2" from the edge of the paper (from one of the ends, not the sides). When plotting from R14, our plotter understands just fine and prints a standard ARCH D sheet just the way we want it. With 2008, our standard sheet template sits outside the dashed line that indicates plottable area.
I think that autoCAD thinks that the printer can't print that close to the edge, but obviously it can. I've gone into the 'modify paper sizes' options and adjusted the bottom margin to allow enough space for the plot. Plot preview looks fine and nothing is getting cut off, but when I actually print, the printer just prints an extra inch of paper past the margin I redefined so I end up with a sheet that is 24 x 37 and the edge of the plot is still not 1/2" from the edge of the paper like I need it to be.
We are trying to move from R14 to 2008 (and eventually 2014) as the office standard and this is the last hurdle that is baffling us.

When I use the SSM and use the "Place on Sheet" command to create the Viewport from the MS View DWG file, it comes in only as a rectangular Viewport. I tried to see if there's a way to draw a Polyline and select it as a MS View but I don't think that's possible.
Any way to do this without breaking the link between the View DWG and the Sheet DWG?

I have Adobe CS4 for macs. Just today, every time I enclose an area with my polygonal lasso tool, it stopped closing the area and instead gives me the message "No pixels are more than 50% selected.
The selected edges will not be visible." I must have accidentally pressed something by mistake that makes the lasso tool not work anymore but I don't know what. Do I need to reset Photoshop? Any ways to reset it? I tried holding option, command shift but it still did not reset my Photoshop to its original settings.I also rebooted my computer several times with no success.

When creating section view sheets how do I control where the section view is in relation to the print area. I understand I can use the data bands to force the sections left and right but what about vertically? I end up with sections drawn right on the line and the labels are outside the print area, see below.

I have a pdf xref with a polygonal clip applied. I'd like to change the shape of the clipping area and need to add vertexes to do so.
How can I add a vertex to a polygonal pdf clipping?
Usually I can just select a vertex and pressing crtl will cycle through add vertex, remove vertex, and if it's a line segment, change to an arc. When I select the vertex of a polygonal vp clip I can't do this.

Is there a possibility to copy a polygonal shape from one file to another via copy & paste with different projection systems (and with preserving/ converting the correct coordinates)? Or is there a method to convert it before the operation? I want to transform MGI-AT.AUT-Central/GK to AT-LCC.

How to changes the settings for the "Square Area" in mapcheck's closure summary. When I right-click the dwg name in the Settings tab of Toolspace and choose Edit Drawing Settings, then Ambient Settings, I see the Area settings, but in the closure summary, there is also "Square Area". Why are these both there? It WOULD be nice to show sq. ft. as well as acres, but I can't find anywhere to edit it.

I have a drawing with a viewport that fits to the page. And I created another smaller viewport over top that just shows the legend. Now when I try to double click inside the smaller viewport it always goes into the larger one. I have tried bringing the smaller one to the front but that didn't work. I know that I can clip the larger viewport around the smaller one or bring the legend right into paperspace or slid the smaller one off to the side work in it and slide it back. This is more out of curiosity of how to get into the smaller viewport.

I am using ACA 2012 and when I insert a view into a sheet, the text and dimensions in the view do not display. I have checked the view and the text and dimensions are on layers that should display in the sheet. The layers are on and thawed in the viewport on the sheet, but do not show up. I have turned on all layers and only the model (building information) shows, no text or dimensions.

Since I installed autocad architecture 2012 I have this problem. When I drag a view from the project navigator in a sheet I see the content and the option to set a scale. So far so good. When I click in the sheet to set the location the viewport goes empty. I can stretch the viewport to top left to get the drawing within range and then move it back to where I want to place the drawing.

I have an 11 x 17 border (true). I am printing on an 11 x 17 sheet (true). I have specified 11 x 17 sheet in plot dialogue box.
SO WHY IS MY PRINTABLE AREA 11.5 X 17.5??
i have established LIMITS at the corners of my border. there is nothing else outside the border.
this is for a template. i would like to establish the 11 x17 LAYOUT and lock it in position, never to be changed again. If someone wants to print a portion or outside they can use WINDOW, or EXTENTS, but, when LAYOUT is selected i want to see an 11 x17 rectangle eliminating from the 0,0 point and nothing else.

How people deal with multiple revisions of one sheet with sheet set manager, basically I want the cover sheet of drawings to have a list of drawings including the revision letter and revision date and on each individual sheet keep track of historical revisions
There is the current sheet revision and date fields.Does everyone usually just update these and manually keep track of historical revisions else where in there title block?

I was creating a new sheet set in the sheet set manager as I have created new drawings to be added to the old one. When I do this and browse to the directory of drawings, once I hit next it only wants to create a sheet with a few drawings in the directory. There are 22 drawings in the directory and is leaving out about 18 when it creates the sheet set.

I had several rectangular viewports created which resides on the vport layer that is set to not print. I wanted to convert these viewports to a clipped polygonal vewport. I drew the polyline and clipped the viewport to that object and it worked for most of them.
If I had moved my polyline/object I was to clip the viewport into onto the vport layer before clipping, the process worked fine and the viewport border would not print. However if I had the polyline object border on layer 0 and then clipped the viewport, the viewport border (even though still on the vport layer set to not print) would then print/not display.
This time it was only a couple of viewports which I manually recreated, although for future reference is there a fix/trick to get around this if one forgets to move the polyline to be clipped onto the vport layer first before clipping?

Recently, on my machine i have noticed that the print area (layout white space) of my drawing in paperspace moves and re-sizes every time i print.
I am trying to create a template and want everyone to print "layout" as a standard practice. But, if i happen to change to print window and window something off the page the layout space (white area) has now been resized and moved to the area i just windowed.
I want to print something "off the page" this time is no reason to change or modify the LAYOUT area that was initially specified. This never happened before and is not happening to my colleagues, so this must be a local setting.

Trying to get blocks to plot transparent for only 1 viewport. Using viewport transparency works for all objects in applicable layer except blocks that have been created using "0" layer. I cannot use transparency by block since the blocks must show in other layouts without transparency. Also cannot re-create blocks using different layer since the source file is kept on network for all to use. Is there a way to plot blocks with the vp transparency of its current layer despite having created the block in another layer?

I have a fairly simple 3D model in ACAD ARCH 2011. I am rendering it to a viewport on a layout that contains the company border / title block. If I render the model (presentation quality) to model space and send that to the printer (color laser) the print comes out in about 60 seconds or less. However, if I render the same image and quality to the viewport on the layout and send that to the printer, it takes between 10 and 15 minutes for the image to print. The layout is simple - just line workd border and title block. The images are identicla when finally printed.
Why does it take SOOOO much longer to print when with a layout as opposed to not with a layout? The rendering to screen takes the smae amount of time either way - it's just the printing procvess that is bogged down by using a layout.

I am trying to plot a layout sheet 24'' W x 18" H. The frame on my sheet is 22''W x 16''L (inside the dash lines limits we see on the layout). I believe I prepare the print correctly:
- Select the printer (HP DESIGN JET PS)
- I use the window fonction to select the printable area ( left upper corner and then the opposite corner).
- Select Paper size Arch C (landscape)
- Paper orientation: Lansdcape
The preview shows that the upper and bottom lines of my frame will not print, and they do not, even if I try (see the attachement below).
Is this a driver problem?
