I have a bunch of polylines I want to display the areas for. I am using mtext and fields. However the fields format part always defaults to a less than desirable format. Is there a way to set the formatting how I want it for the entire file? Or is there a better way of labeling than fields?

Essentially, I'll be creating a sort of Venn diagram. So for the purposes of this exercise, let's assume it's the classic Venn diagram of three intersecting circles. But I need this to work with closed polylines, that may also have arc segments in them.
Anyway, so I have these intersecting areas, and I need to create bounding polylines for each area, and assess the number of overlaps. So, as in a Venn diagram, the areas where only one circle is present can then get shaded one color, areas where two circles are overlapping can get a different color, and the area where all three circles overlap can get a third color.
I'm clearly going to have to be converting the various boundaries to Regions, and performing some Unions. It seems I could grab all objects, convert them to Regions 2 at a time, and compare their Union'ed area to their individual area, to determine if they overlapped at all. With only the 3 cirlces, that would work, but when I have 35 individual polyline areas with arcs, suddenly this method feels like it will break down.
I have a drawing (autocad 2011) ,which i have to measure the areas of the many rooms and i arrange these areas in a table! is there any fast way to do so? avoiding the boaring typical area measurements room by room?
As the above mentioned, I have a drawing drawn using polylines with width from someone. The width of the line are suppose to represent area,
To put things into prospective, here is an example:
The polyline is 10 unit long and with a width of 2 unit wide. If i explode that polyline, it will become a single polyline without width. The line are suppose to represent 10 unit long and 2 unit wide; representing an area.
My question is is there a way to change the line above directly from polyline with width to a close polyline (4 x polylines) of 10 unit long and 2 unit wide.
We just upgraded to 2013, and one computer is having a weird issue. There is nothing in the drawing. He draws two polylines. When he goes to fillet them, it says they are non-coplanar. The properties palette says both polylines are elevation 0. why this is happening and how I can fix it?
Trying to calculate a catchment area to allow me to size some culverts using Civil 3D 2012 Sp#1.
" The specified location results in a Catchment with no area."
After sitting for 15 miutes I keep getting the above message. The surface is huge and there is an obvious catchment area (or I think it is obvious). The surface was generated from contours and cover an area of approx. 8Km x6.5Km but the catchment ares should be around 15-20% of that area.
I tried another one upstream about a Km and it worked fine. So the one I am doing now should encompass the upstream area as well as from that point downstream to the Discharge Point.
I'm working on a windfarm access road (5m wide with widening at bends to 8m) and I need to identify the areas of widening.
I've got the centreline alignment and created the 2.5m offsets to each side. I have also created widening on the insides of the bends using the widening tools and used a linear taper at entry and exit. I now need to hatch up the portions where the road has been widened to demonstrate compliance with the specification and the only easy way I can see is to export to autocad and use the hatch tools (not tried to hatch between alignments).
Whilst this works it isn't dynamic so if the alignment is adjusted the widening alignments are also moved but the hatching remains.

The Straighten method seems to always default to the first vertex of the polylne, which is great if you want to start there but what if you wanted to delete the 10th to 15th vertex? Is this even possible using PEDIT Tools (it is very possible using the WEEDFEATURES method)

i want to make a multicolored polyline with all the function, i try to use MLSTYLE command but it dont work so much because i can not draw a curve or i can not add vertex after the draw
How do you suppress viewing drawing polylines in the cross section editor in 2014. I never had this problem in 2013, now it shows all of my polylines in the cross section editor. I thought it would be under 'display objects'.
I use slope symbols instead of contours to keep my maps less busy. Unfortunately I can only change my cut style and fill style to slope symbols with grading by right clicking on the little diamond in the grading and selecting grading properties.
I have created a surface with 3d poly lines not by creating grading and got contours that way, How can I create the slope symbols in a surface. I tried xploding them and then creating a block and using the measure tool on the 3d polylines but it doesn't do anything.
Picture 01 is the contours
Picture 1 is the contours turned off and cut/fill styles turned to slope symbols.
how do I convert a section that I created using an alignment and surface into a polyline. I want to be able to manipulate and easily use the section for another program.
trying to create a model from existing polylines (at elevation). I have created a surface, went to definiltion, drawing objects, but there is no "polyline" option there. I must be missing something. How can I create a c3d model from existing polylines?
I have some polylines that mark the edge of roadway and around the curves there are arcs in the linework. How do I turn the polyline with arcs in it into a polyline with vertices, say, every .5' or so along the curve and turn the curve into a polyline? I tried the pedit and using decurve but it doesn't work well.
Has imported 5,000 3d polylines to features? ...And then imported them into a surface as breaklines? My computer keeps crashing. I also need to import a few thousand points from blocks into the surface.
I'm using AutoCAD Civil 3D to model inner city utility construction projects. For my research project, I need to include water and storm pipes, but also various sorts of cables. Currently, I'm manually creating cables profiles using plines from existing 2D drawings and the sweep function.. a very cumbersome taks.
I was wondering whether there is a way to speed this process up. At the moment, I draw a circle, copy it myriads of times, and sweep each along the dozens of plines (one by one). I cannot select multiple lines and sweep them all, can I?
whether I can select mutiple plines to sweep all at once?
Is there anyway to read the featId attribute of a polyline and assign the elevation to the polyline? All the polylines are at elevation 0. Is there a lisp routine to do this?
PS: I do not have the shp file from GIS only the AutoCAD drawing with the polylines already created and their featId.
Having trouble with splined polylines in 2011? I tried to edit a splined PLine and the program was unresponsive for about 10 minutes. After I edited the spline the drawing size doubled. I reverted to a backup and erased the spline. I drew a Pline and used Fit Curve with no problem.
I draw another PLine and didn't like the results. So I tried to spline it and now Civil is unresponsive for the past 5 minutes. I'm doing this on a different computer. So it isn't that particular machine or installation.
They send me a file that has polylines as contours and when I try to do the surface adding contours an error appears saying that the breaklines couldn't be added because they crossed a breakline, I don't understand why.
I received some dwg files to show existing utilities from a local municipality. I thought the files would come as shp files, but they are dwg files. The drawings/dwg files show the layout of pipes, but the pipes are polylines. The polylines have data attached to them. The properties show material, size, length, slope, etc. I am trying to label the pipes/polylines and I can't figure out how to get the information from the polylines.
subassembly from centerline is LINKOFFSETONSURFACE out to a target alignment
next sub is good old LANEINSIDESUPER, using depths for PAVE1DEPTH and SUB-BASEDEPTH
the corridor definition under SURFACES specifies top links for both PAVE1 and SUB-BASE surfaces, but they appear to ignore that and cut across the road (see graphic) making a mess of it
do I need to add a link code to LINKOFFSETONSURFACE subassembly? other work-around?
I have a 100 acre park that I am doing earthworks. I have 1 proposed and 1 existing surface. The park is now broke into 5 different areas and I need to get cut and fill for each area. Is there a way to do a volume report for a particular area? I could define the area with a polyline. Or do I need to copy the proposed surface and start chopping up into 5 areas?
Is there a way of converting 3d polylines to polylines with an elevation?
I have a dwg of contour information, the contours are 3d polylines, because they are contours the z value is constant all along the line, so there no question what the elevation of the polyline would need to be.
I need to do this as I then need to import the dwg into a GIS programme called MapInfo whch doesn't read 3d polylines.
I have a drawing with 3D polylines that will be used to build a surface but many of them cross each other.
I would like to extract the vertices of these polylines and use this information to build the surface but can't figure out an easy way to do this.
I have tried the Points at Vertices Automatic which is ok but as there are 300 or so 3D polylines this will get very tedious very quickly - is there a better/quicker way to do this?

I have a drawing that started as a pipeline network and am trying to easily convert the pipes to polylines or something of the sort to export to shapefiles.
On several occasions I have had to convert a group of lines to polylines but had to select and convert each line one after the other. Instead of one after another is there a way or a command to select all the lines and convert them as group into polylines?
I have many segmented polylines that I need to turn into arcs. See the attached image for the method I use to create an arc from a single polyline. I need to do this to thousands of polylines. Does some other method that can do many polylines at once?
I am creating a surface from polylines and the surface is not being created per the what the polylines represent. These are simple 5:1, 3:1, and 3.5:1 slopes. The surface wants to create curves instead of straigtlines (see attached).
