AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Culvert Modeling - Peak Flows Are Artificially High

Aug 14, 2013

I am having difficulties modeling culverts within my model for the 100 year flow.  I have seen the sample file within SAS, and all of my culverts have a storage node at the upstream end with a weir representing the road.  However, when the weir is utilized, peak flows are artificially high.  For example, despite a basin only producing 11.7 cfs, the weir has 8.94 cfs and the pipe has 10.35 cfs. I am using hydrodynamic routing with a 5 second routing time step.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Water Culvert Crossing Under Corridor

Mar 27, 2012

We are starting a new job, and looking how to setup our drawings.  We have a long corridor that we are upgrading, and along this corridor, we have various water course passing through.  We are replacing the existing culverts.  They are large circular culverts.  How do we show the culverts on our model?  Do I create a short pipe network for each culvert crossing?  And also, how do I daylight to the outside of the culvert as the corridor crosses over it?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Peak Flow During Analysis

Mar 2, 2012

I am modeling an existing storm system that is under capacity. After running the model, some of the flows seem to be incorrect. I have one section that has a known flow of 1.31 cfs. The results for this pipe section shows 28.82 cfs (peak flow during analysis) and 6.06 cfs (design flow capacity). The pipe section is a 15" with constructed slope of 0.0088 ft/ft. The max velocity attained is 23.48 ft/sec. I know that the downstream is undersized. Could this flow rate be caused by the downstream backflows? The model is setup as hydrodynamic and rational method. My inertial terms are set at ignore, time step = 0, junction surface area = 0 and variable time step with safety factor 75%. I have gutter bypass flows and my sag structures have ponded area set at 100.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: How To Follow Each Peak Of The Surface

Nov 9, 2012

we are missing tool in SAC  for stripping a surface exactly the same way how Stripping Pavement or Striping TopSoil works. There is no tool to copy and vertical offset part of the surface. I found out some workaround with Point Delta X on Surface and then vertical Offset, but this is very complicated and I am not able to follow each peak of the surface. Surface link is not suitable for Topsoil stripping.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Calculating Capacity Of Rectangular Pipe (not A Culvert)

May 7, 2013

In Land Desktop using the Hydrology tools, we could get capacities for rectangular pipes based on slope, size, etc.

I have tried using the Hydraflow Express tools for this, but cannot figure out how to use them for a RECTANGULAR pipe (i.e. 10x4) box.  Saw the circular option, but couldn't change where it says circular.

This is not a culvert analysis because we have inlets, multiple slopes, etc.  It is part of an entire system.

I use these tools to layout the system before I want to put it into the analyses software we are using.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Getting Peak Flow To Add Long Sections

I am wanting to get the peak flow back into Civil3d to add to our long sections, I assume the Peak Flow in SSA is the Flow rate property for the pipe in Civil3d, the HGL stuff seems to come in ok. I am just doing a basic rational analysis in SSA is there a trick to getting the data?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Hydraflow Extension - No Flows

Nov 7, 2013

New user for civil 3d and the hydraflow extension for civil 3d.  I have my pipe network created, all the correct catchments are attached to the correct basin/inlet.  i have opened my network in hydraflow and am ready to run it.   when I click run it says no flow.   Now I know there is another step i need to set my flow wth TOC, I've inputted that, i am using the standard idf curve hydraflow, i have the areas with their coefficients, however it is not calculating my flow rather it is telling me no flow is inputted for certain lines i.e. the ones with MH connections and no inlets.

I have attached my .stm file to this thread, i changed the extension so it would post, just delete the .doc from the extension and it should work in your hydraflow.

Where is the best place to view the results for the detention pond peak outflow and maximum HGL?

Also, the program seems to separate the results per year storm...anyway to view the results for all year storms in the same report?

how do you attach the .spf file?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: How To Divert Storm Sewer Flows For Treatment

Jan 3, 2013

I need to model a diversion manhole in a storm sewer system.  The diversion will take X cfs from the system and send it to a water quality treatment facility.  After leaving the WQ facility, it will be returned to the storm sewer system at the next manhole downstream.

I tried in Hydraflow but it doesn't look like diversions are possible.  Thought about modeling up to the diversion manhole and taking that data into some other program, and then coming back into a second Hydraflow model that handles the downstream bit.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Adding Sanitary Sewer Flows To Nodes From Spreadsheet

Dec 12, 2012

I have a master plan development that I am trying to model different wastewater flows scenerios for I am basically following this paper from  AU 2011 [URL] but have a couple of issues I am trying to work around.

Basically I want to take a spreadsheet of flows determined for specific nodes and upload it into SSA quickly from the paper
I can see that you can write a shp file of the network and then add different flow scenerios to the .dbf file and them use the GIS import function of SSA to get the flows assigned in one hit.

The issue I have however is that my network is a prelimary design in Civil3d as pipes and structures and if I create a .sdf of the network and then.shps from that data I do not get the structure sump elevations, this is not something that created in the shp file export process,

To work around this I through maybe I could export the network from Cicil3d to SAA which gies me all the strucutres with the correct sump levels and then also create a .shp and .dbf file and add the flows and them do a GIS import of just the structures and merge them with the exisiting network as the structure names as exactly the same and therefore the gis import should find the correct structures.

However SSA does not and adds a second lot of nodes with the same structure name but with Junction in the front.

3ds Max Modeling :: Clean Up High Poly Mesh

Dec 16, 2013

I was modeling a unicorn in ZBrush (because it's so comfortable and intuitive with modeling) for a film in a project of my studies and imported it to 3ds Max then, because I know how to rig and animate there (and in ZBrush I didn't even find out how to MOVE an object).

After a while I finally killed all the triangles in my mesh, but it's just... horrible. So many polys where they aren't needed, so unclean. It looks like this:

And I'd rather want it to be clean like that:

3ds Max Modeling :: High Poly Model - Attaching Objects And Smoothing

Oct 28, 2011

I'm having trouble with a high poly model. It's too big for my system right now to use in a complex scene, so I want to use a MR proxy to instance it. However the model I have(I wasn't the modeler) is composed of a lot of objects, more than I'm willing to make a proxy for. I tried to make a group out of them and make that a proxy but that doesn't seem to be possible (MR proxies can only store 1 object?)

So my next step was to combine them into one object via attach, however when I do that the smoothing gets really screwed up (see attached jpgs). Any tips for keeping smoothing per object as I add them?

3ds Max Modeling :: Scaling Low And High Poly / Viewport Clipping Making Model Disappear

Apr 3, 2011

What i have is a low polymodel that's quite small in scale, i'm modelling around a higher poly model, when i zoom in, the viewport clipping kicks in and parts of the model disappear, so i cant work on the small details. What i need to do is scale up both my low poly and high poly, work on the small details and scale it back down.

In maya there are multiple solutions to this; The first and most obvious would be to increase the near clip in the camera attributes.

The second would be to freeze transformations on the low and high poly, scale up the model, work on it and then scale it back to the value of 1.

The third would be to put both the low and high poly models into a group, scale up the group, work on the model, return the group back to its default size and ungrouping. Personally i would use this method to preserve the original scale values on the low and high poly models.

Is there a way of doing any of the above in 3ds max?

I would want them to look less fuzzy and grainy than the USGS NED 1/3 meter images I tried.  How does the curb and gutter and sidewalk look when used as an underlain to as-built survey linework at this scale?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: High Resolution PDF Plots

i am using civil 3d 2012 on windows 7, 64 bit.

using pdf995 and/or dwg to pdf as my driver, the only way i can get it to deliver a high-res graphic file is to have it produce an extremely tiny area, which, when blown up to the 4' x 8' size for the sign, gets even worse than the 72 dpi it gave me in the first place. Where i can get a driver to have autoCAD print a drawing to pdf at higher resolutions? Or, how to get autoCAD's default pdf creator to produce higher res?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Survey Database - Imported Points Being Assigned Very High Point Number

When I import points from a survey database there is a very large new number being assigned to points that have overlap/numbering conflicts.

I had some survey from one source that was in the 1000 pt # range & additional survey that was in same numbering sequence.

When importing the points I chose "Resolve all" it is renumbering the Point number value to the 5xxxxxxxx range?

Is there some setting where I can change this to a lower # or how/why this is happening?

Next Point Number value @ Settings Tab>Point>Commands>CreatePoints>Point Identity>Next Point Number = 3.

I've attached a couple of captions illustrating the issue.

Obviously I can turn the first floor RCP on in the view and manually draw the information, but I assume these lines won't move if the walkways above move (or am I wrong?).  Also this seems slightly wrong given the amount of automation available.

Structure would consist of a Core, an Underlayer, and of course Rip Rap. Also the Rip Rap layer will most likely have a Toe at the Existing Seabed.

The last time we did a Causeway, it was fairly complicated and I did it with Grading Objects. Edits and modifications were a real PITA. Also volumes were a little awkward to get. I figure using a custom built Assembly would be a better way to go.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Modeling Laying Down Sheets Of Textile Onto Surface

Meaning that since the 45m dimension is facing up/down slope, the length should be less in projection (see attached image) and that should be calculated automatically since the surface is a very irregular on (not like the attached dwg which is included as an example).
