I've tried "SmartUnfold" from Solid3DTech but is giving me way too many line segs.

AutoCad 3D :: Drawing Router Profile Onto Piece Of Wood?
Jul 25, 2011I am using AutoCAD 2010 3D and though I am reasonably comfortable with 2D, the 3D stuff is hurting this wee brain of mine. Here is my objective. I have drawn a 3D image of a piece of wood in the 3D model space. I want to profile the edges of the wood with a router design, in this case a Roman Ogee, (see drawing). I have drawn the Roman Ogee in 2D, copied and pasted it into 3D then extruded it. I moved the Roman Ogee router profile into the area at the edge of the board I want the profile to be but I just can't figure out how to get the router profile to run along all 4 edges of the board to look like the image above.

Sep 12, 2012I have never used the unfold command before. It seemed simple enough, draw the part, extrude, turn into sheet metal, set defaults and unfold to make a flat pattern. It will not let me unfold. The dialog box comes up, but will not allow me to pick a flat surface or bends....

Nov 27, 2013I'm having an issue with some similar pieces of sheet metal. They are created with a face, then I place a fold, then I need to unfold/refold it so I can place holes while it's unfolded and have them remain as true holes.
2 of the 3 parts do this just fine, but one particular will unfold normally, but the refold, even though it succeeds, does not actually do any refolding, I'm just left with the flattened part.
Every sketch is fully constrained. I've experimented with changing the sheet metal rules.

May 27, 2009I want to creat a hollow cylinder. But I need to be able to unfold it to have a layout of the cylinder. So that when this DWG goes to the floor the technicans knows how much he/she will need from the sheet to roll the cylinder.

Dec 28, 2012I am drawing the hull of a plywood hard chine boat with Inventor.
Basically there are a number of boat stations that are drawn in as sketches on parallel and spaced planes. Stations are drawn as series of straight line segments representing the hard chine technique used for this particular boat.
The plank is created as a lofted surface passing through each corresponding straight line segment of all stations.Surface is then thickened and it becomes a sheet metal.
I am unable to unfold or better to create a flat pattern from the sheet metal. The program correctly complains about the lack of bends in the sheet metal: there are infacts no bends as the plank is a continuous curved surface of which I would like to obtain a flat template for CNC cutting.
I doubt the problem comes from compound twisting/stretching of the surface since the stations' geometry comes from an existing design of which several hundred plywood boats have actually been built.

Jun 26, 2013Is there a way I can tell Inventor which folds to fold or unfold when creating a flat pattern? I want to bend some C-Channel INWARD and Inventor doesn't seem to be able to do that. When it's formed C-Channel, I can bend the legs and all that but I don't want those legs to unfold when I create a flat pattern.

May 13, 2011I have a conical shaped part that Inventor 2012 will allow me to unfold, but will not refold accurately. When the refold is complete it should roll back up and be .01 degrees from completely round. But instead it leaves about 60deg of opening. I need to cut out 120+ slots out of the face of the metal, but once I do this while in the unfolded state, it will not refold at all...not that it owuld matter if it, seeing as though it refold inaccurately.

I opted to cut an opening with a profile, but I am still unable to unfold the part. The probelm is likely obvious and I believe it is because I used part splits to create the different sections.

Oct 31, 2011I created a part that spans between two other pieces. The original part model does not have a twist in the "flat" surfaces, so it unfolds just fine, but it also does not represent the way the actual part fits, so it is difficult to determine if any other parts are fitting correctly up to it.
I had a problem getting a part to unfold before, and I was shown a method of creating a surface body and a thicken, which I have done with this part, but as of yet have had no success unfolding this part.
Is there anything that I can do since the sides are twisted and not planar?

Nov 8, 2012I'm using AutoCAD Mechanical 2010 and received a .DXF file that contains 'solid' objects. Unfortunately the next tool in my workflow doesn't understand 'solids' only polylines (and a few other basic shapes like circles, lines, etc). Is there some way to convert the object in AutoCAD?
I tried the 'boundary' command but when it asks to 'Pick Points' and I click inside the solid, it always gives the error 'Valid hatch boundary not found'.
What am I missing here?

We have a user that can't open some OLE DWG files from within a word document. He had 2010 AutoCAD LT on his machine for a while then was upgraded to 2012 AutoCAD (non LT) once that was there LT 2010 was unistalled. since then he has not been able to open certain embedded OLE files within Word. Other users that have other ever had AutoCAD 2012 have no issue opening this embedded DWG files.
i found this thread (URL....) which sounds exactly what is going on with my enduser. But the fix provided is for AutoCad 2000-2012 not the LT versions.

Dec 20, 2012I am using autocad 2013 primarily and other employees are using 2010. I am saving my drawings as 2010 and for me there are no issues. On the other hand people using 2010 are having objects missing in the drawing. All layers are turned on and all thawed. The primary objects missing are AEC objects. Is there a switch to show or hide these object?

May 23, 2012I recently loaded several versions of AutoCAD on to a Windows 7 machine. ALL versions will open a drawing if double-clicked from windows explorer, but if I try to open through AutoCAD, the program freezes as soon as I click on the "Open" button. This is true for AutoCAD 2010 through 2012.

I also cannot open multiple instances of ANY version of AutoCAD in Windows 7.

to install the menus in r14 first we opel tools/options/Files then we add the custom folders under the Support File Search path then we load the menu and open the Display screen menu and after all the commands can used under the screen menu.
