AutoCAD 2010 :: Locking All Viewports Within Drawing
Aug 2, 2010Is there a command to lock all vieports within the drawing?

View 9 RepliesWhat's everyone's take on locking down viewports?
I always do. It irritates me to no end when i'm moving about in a layout and accidently click into model space and screw up a viewport that is not locked down.
My properties button has quit picking viewports. When I pick the viewport outline, my properties dialog box say's "no selection" Sometimes I get a blank dialog box and have to repick the viewport to get the dialog box to give me information. However, it will not give me the information to set viewbox scale, or will not let me lock the modelspace area so that I can zoom without altering my scale setting. Is there a setting that has gotten changed or what. A week ago the command was working fine.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWe have a client that wants to recieve AutoCAD documents for the construction documents that our office has prepared. In the past, on other projects with this client, they have altered our AutoCAD drawing files and reissued them out to bid. This is becoming a legal matter, but I am asking, is there a way that the AutoCAD drawing file can be saved that will 'lock' the file so that it can not be altered?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had been using AutoCAD 2012 x64 w/SP1 for quite a few months with no issues. A week or two ago I went to open a drawing and the program locked up. I tried opening AutoCAD via the desktop shortcut and directly from acad.exe and it locks up immediately. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling 2012, but the issue persisted. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling without any service packs. I normally don't use Windows Update and hadn't downloaded any updates prior to these issues, but I did it to see if it would fix the issue and it did not. I uninstalled 2012 and installed AutoCAD 2011 x64 only to have the same exact issue. I have an old version, AutoCAD 2002 that works fine, but my job always receives drawings not saved in 2000, and my convert tool sometimes fails to convert them to a version I can open. A friend of mine pointed me to this thread here: URL.... I am using Windows 7 x64 on a somewhat up to date PC that I built myself.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an issue with Sheet Set Manager Locking the .dst file to one user, others can only open the file read only.
I am working on a network that uses Linux.
I have been using sheetset manager for several years and think its great but this causes a problem on large projects that need to have multiple users.
The below is an interesting link that i have recently become aware of but it doesnt say whether this fixed the issue or not.
[URL] ....
I have this problem logged with Autodesk but I have not got anything definitive.
For some reason my computer is the only one in my office that is doing this. Whenever something is put on the def points layer I am unable to select it afterwards.
Such things have been:
1) The viewport in paperspace. The view cannot be resized but I can still click inside the viewport and work without problem.
2) Any line, block, etc made or put on that layer.
From what I've read others are saying is your layer 0 locked or frozen? It is not. Also in my layers manager nothing is turned off to make it any different from any other layer.
Except for the minor/temporary glitch back in 2009, we have had very good luck with Riverbed/Steelhead devices for accelerating DWG file access over a MPLS WAN connection.
When accessing Sheetset (DST) files on a remote server across the WAN, a DBL file appears alongside the DST and from that point on, the remote user has excluside R/W access to the DST file which prevents any other user from accessing the sheet set concurrently.
On the LAN that is local to the server, this problem never exists until the DST file is accessed in any of several remote locations.
I have some aligned dimensions in model space - they look ok, text is oriented according to WCS. Also I have some viewports with UCS (I used commands UCS, PLAN) where dimensions look wrong, text is not oriented correctly. Is it possible to "update" dimension in viewport to orient text as in model space?
Programmatically created dims in viewports oriented as in model space, not considering current UCS.
I have 3D drawing. I put camera's in several places and situations. In viewports I choosed a camera in every viewport. They work nice so long the drawing is open. When I close the drawing after saving it ofcourse. When I open it again , the viewports jump to SOUTH-EAST. and I have to rearrange the view of the cammera again. Although I used the command UCSFOLLOW to solve this, but it did not work.
PS. that happens only in the viewports which based on camera's. The views in other viewports which are not based on camer's, stay without chaning or jumping.
I have not done this for a while, but I remember you have to click somewhere otherwise all you see is an empty viewport in the new drawing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to change colour to a drawing with several viewports and xrefs. I suggested to my co-worker that I could fix this via plot manager, but he insists that I change all colours in the xref to one and the same, so everyone can plot it black and white and so we don't have to set up new plot styles on every computer. (we've got the drawing file from another company btw).
I've had a look and it seems like I have to do refedit to be able to edit any parts of the xref. Most of the drawing has got the same colour already, but it just say "by layer"... how do I find out what colour it is?
I have a layer VPORTS. I create viewports in this layer
On a 10 sheet drawing. viewports are visible and selectable on 9 sheets. Only one sheet they have dissapeared
I cannot select or edit vports on this one sheet
I have rebooted.. turned on and thawed all layers.. can see the viewports on sheets 1 thru 9 and edit them but not on sheet 10
I have two viewports in a drawing file. One is for existing and new conditions and one is for existing and demolition conditions. So, I want one viewport to freeze some layers and the other viewport to freeze other layers. After picking and freezing certain layers in each viewport, I created New Layer States - One called New Floor Plan and the other called Demo Floor Plan.
When I click inside one of the viewports and select the appropriate layer state it changes both viewports to the same layer state. That is not what I want. Is it possible to have one layer state in one viewport and another layer state in another viewport?
I am trying to organize my drawing in model into different viewports for printing purposes. However, in Layout # 1, once I delete an item it also deletes the item in model space. In Layout # 2, can't edit, select, highlight or anything ( I am in Layer 0). How can I fix that ? Basically, I want to create several layouts, each layout will contain a certain section of my drawing in model space then. I am not "layout savvy", trying to get hang of it.

View 3 Replies View RelatedHow can I tell when a viewport (any viewport) in paper space is currently active.
This is actually related to a .NET programming error, whereby even when the drawing is in Paper space, if a viewport is active, I am unable to programmatically access the Layout. I need to be able to, at a minimum, detect this condition, then switch back to full paper space (i.e. de-activate the viewport) if possible.
He's got a series of roadway plans where the North arrow shows up fine on some sheets, but the fill (solid hatch) in the arrows doesn't display on others. The arrows are blocks, all the elements in the block are on layer "0" (zero).and the blocks reside in model space.
Just for grins. I had him expand a viewport (where the arrow looks fine) to capture a problematic arrow and... it looks fine. So, it's not an arrow/block/layer issue. It's a viewport issue.
I am working on a sheet which curently has the MAXACTVP setting set at 30 which is adequate for the number of VP's currently on the sheet but the contens are still not visible unless i move them.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using autocad 2011..I have a problem with printing to scale.I have completed a drawing in model space with a 1:1 ratio, all my units are in mm.I have created 3 different view ports in paper space to show different aspects of my drawing, each view port has a different scale.
The whole drawing is to be printed on A2 size paper.
My main viewport (which contains the primary aspect of my drawing) is to be drawn to scale. When I click on this view port Autocad states that has a scale of 0.008583 – what does this mean? See picture 1..When I print the document the scale is set to 1 inches = 25.4.
All I want to do is print my drawing so that it fits onto an A2 page, but the main view port is to be printed to a scale. I want to scale to be sensible some like 1 in 200 or 1 in 50 etc so that other people can use a ruler to work out the real life dimension.
I have 5 drawings that all have the same model (basically a topo map of a 2 mile radius) but each have unique info, i.e. monitoring well locations, utility info, etc. The client wants a zoomed in view of a 1 block radius and I need all 5 drawings to have an identical zoom. How do I adjust my viewports in each drawing so they are zoomed in to the exact same place?
I'm using AutoCAD 2007 for this.
I am having a problem plotting any viewports that are not set to 2D wireframe. All viewports set to 2D wireframe plot correctly but anything set to hidden of conceptual plots as a black square.
View 1 Replies View RelatedLet's say you create a floor plan, and you use the Layer State manager to separate the framing plan, finish plan, reflected ceiling plan, etc. Now, when you go to create a sheet, you xref this plan into model space with all of the layers thawed/on, go to your titleblock in paper space and make a viewport.
Currently, if I click into a viewport and use the Layer State manager to show just the information of the RCP, it will freeze all of the layers I don't need, but it will freeze those layers in model space, instead of just within the viewport. It gets very time consuming doing it the way I always understood to do it; making sure all layers are thawed/on in model space, and then going into each viewport and manually VP-freezing each layer I don't need.
So can Layer States be set up to work within viewports, to only have those layers VP-frozen?
In some drawings the viewports automatically display viewport objects when I copy them and some they do not. There must be a systems variable and I searched through the systems variable tool in the Express tools and couldn't find it. How to get consistent results when copying viewports.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWe (several people at my company including myself) are having a problem where we set up sheets for plotting in paperspace that include multiple viewports. Often, the projects require us to use irregularly shaped viewports (i.e. not square/rectangular). When we print the sheets to our plotter, to PDF, or to any other printer, the page looks fine. However, if we print them to DWF using the DWF6 ePlot.pc3, the viewports will square off, allowing items that were not supposed to be shown outside of the viewport to come through. This has caused extra information to show up across our sheets, making portions of them unreadable.
We are at a loss on how to work around this, beyond only using square/rectangular viewports. Is there a way to get the DWFs to match what we can get out of other plotters?
I have a sheet set with several sheets, each sheet with a viewport that ultimately xrefs to the same base file. In that base file, I have changed some layer properties (color), but I can't get those properties to show up in the viewports on each sheet unless I go into the layer properties of each viewport on each sheet and change them individually. On other layers, I have set them to be no plot layers in the base file, but they still plot on the sheets. I have tried just simply freezing them as well, but they still show up in the viewports. I have tried viewport overrides, but maybe don't do it properly? How can I get these properties to translate over to the viewports on each sheet without going through each sheet one by one?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a drawing file with lots of layouts, some of which have multiple viewports. I want to create a new layer and use it in just a few viewports. Is there a way to set the default vpfreeze setting to frozen for new layers? That way I can just thaw it in a few viewports instead of trying to vpfreeze it in a lot.

I have an existing drawing with numerous viewports. I would like to know if there is a way to link those existing viewports to the set as "sheet views" without having to delete them and re-create them using the normal sheet set process.
I've noticed that each viewport has a variable in its properties display called "link to sheet view" with a yes or no entry, but it doesn't seem changable.
Is this possible, or must I re-create them from scratch?
I set a viewport to a perspective mode. I do this by starting 3DOrbit then right clicking and choosing perspective. Save, close, open and all perspecitve views are set to parallel projection.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI need to select all the viewports in the drawing and to make some changes with them, I'm planning to select them all with ssget command. If I do that I will have one viewport for the paperspace itself in every layout. One of my question is, how to know which viewport is the paperspace itself?
Second question is, how to get the name of layout in which one is the viewport? It is important to me that the lisp is really fast, so I'm planning to do the most of stuffs with vla commands.
