AutoCAD 2010 :: Files Thumbnail Preview In Windows Explorer
Jul 16, 2013
I am using AutoCAD 2011 and am not getting my AutoCAD files thumbnail preview in windows explorer. I did reinstalled it but no use. All other programs like PDF, MS office files are showing thier preview but AutoCAD don't.
I would like to see the drawing preview for the drawing in windows explorer. Just as if I have AutoCAD open and can see the preview for the drawing but I want to see this in Windows Explorer instead, if this is possible or not? windows explorer to show the big preview on right side showing only dwg file icon.
When using the WBLOCK command, no thumbnail preview is being saved with the block for previewing in Windows Explorer. I have check the RASTERPREVIEW system variable is set to 1, but this makes no difference.
When saving files normally I do not have a problem.
Why can't Windows Explorer show thumbnail previews of DNG's on my Windows 8.1 64bit Pc. I assume is has something to do with not having the DNG codec. However, on Adobe's website it says their DNG codec only works on Windows 7.
Is there a way to set Windows Explorer viewing options so that when viewing files in Windows Explorer in the "Thumbnail view", you see the thumbnail of the PSD file rather than the generic/default PSD icon?
i have a drawing file which is corrupted with unknown reason , windows explorer is displaying file preview but anyway autocad is crashing when i try to open this file .recover and open file in another version solutions are not working..how can ı open my corrupted file?
We have a problem with long (like 10 minute) saves.
If we go to Tools / Options / Open and Save / Thumbnail Preview Settings, in the "Sheets and Views" panel, the "Performance-Accuracy Slider" is set all the way to the right, which the Information Panel lists as "Update thumbnails when saving drawing".
If we manually slide it to the center, listed in the Information Panel as "Update thumbnails when accessed", the Save times become less than a minute.
This setting is not saved and we need to reset it each time each drawing is opened.
There has to be a setting because MY STATION did not have this problem with ANY drawing until our Supplier's Support Team got onto my computer yesterday. NOW it's a problem on my computer also.
Setting the UPDATETHUMBNAIL to "0" works, but then we have no Previews.
I thought I had this figured out but it appears to occur somewhat randomly. Since upgrading to Windows 8 when I export files that I have imported from Canon raw .CR2 for some files it gives an error that "the file could not be written" and lists the original source .CR2 file name. It does not do it everytime but once it happens it happens everytime for that file. When exporting 10 JPG files for example only 3 of them may have this issue. The file still exports and creates the JPG file and the only issue with the exported file appears to be that it did not create the preview thumbnail.
I have tried importing the files into new catalogs, writing to different folders etc but it still happens.
I've been using Corel Draw and Photo-Paint for many years, on many versions of Windows, and as far as I remember, Windows Explorer has always shown a thumbnail for a .cpt file instead of the plain icon.
I've now got a Windows 7 machine (professional version 64 bit), and .cpt files show up as plain white icons, instead of thumbnails.
we upgraded to CorelDraw X6. Since yesterday we have been struggling with thumbnail previews under Windows 7 - the feature we loved and got well accustomed to. Earlier we have used X3 version with this preview feature, but with X6 it seems no longer to work.
We have checked the related windows directories as well as the CorelDraw Shell Extension - all things (dlls and exes) look just fine in their places and installed but still we cannot get the thumbnail preview work.
I have recently upgraded from AutoCAD 2008 to 2001. Now when opening a file from windows explorer (desktop vs the AutoCAD browser) and AutoCAD is not running. AutoCAD will startup and open a new drawing as well as bring up the dialog box for finding a file to open, which I cancel, THEN open the drawing that I have selected. I have not seen this before and am wondering what variable or option is causing to happen. I am also seeing two icons for the same drawing file in the Windows task bar.
Ihave windows 8 consumer preview and i installed autocad 2012 but when i open autocad 2012, ribbon dont appear, when i write the command ribbon but appear a message like this " Unhandled exception has ocurred in a component in your application. If you click continue, the application will ignore this error anda attempt to continue.
Common Languaje Runtime detected an invalid program"
In Attachment , i put the image of the problem....
I have exported a set of IV drawings to DWF format for compatibility in Design Review 2013. It would be nice to be able to preview these DWF files before opening in Design Review as thumbnails similar to thumbnail previews for ACAD drawings.
Autodesk Inventor Professional 2013 SP2 64-Bit Edition Windows 7 HP Z400, Intel Xeon W3550 3.07GHz 12.0GB RAM, ATI FirePro V4800 (FireGL)
I have is that after so long thumbnails in windows explorer stop loading just shows generic Autodesk image(.ipt, .iam, .stp, .idw, .dwg ect.). Causing me to be unsure on which file I'm actually opening. Causing me to have to restart the computer.
What is weird is you are able to see the thumbnails in the thumbnail of the parent folder but when you open the folder they aren't shown. If you open up properties it shows a thumbnail.
Closing and opening a new window doesn't fix this error. This was an issue I had experienced with 2011 and am still experiencing with 2013.
How would I go about editing drawing properties (Title, Author & custom props) without using AutoCAD. I need to replicate within VB.NET the windows explorer RMB > Properties capability.
I have heard mention of DWGProps.dll but cannot find it anywhere.
Any way to display the inventor iproperties in windows explorer or in the inventor open dialogue box? This would be useful for us in a lot of situations. If there isn't an inventor trick, maybe a windows trick?
We would like to enforce that our designers save all Inventor files by the Part number only. This is not a problem when using Vault to open files as the interface can be customized to show the iProperty description field. The problem comes in for users who open files from the local drive before they have been added to Vault. There is no way for them to see the iProperty descrition for the files except if they hover over each file and wait for the tooltip to show which then shows a number of iProperties.
I found that I can add a Windows description column but by default it is blank. Is there anyway to get the iProperty description to synchronize with the windows description column?
I have multiple computers in my department that just received multiple Microsoft updates, a service pack update to Windows 7 and an upgrade to Internet Explorer 9. When they restarted and browsed in Windows explorer, all the Autodesk icons have been replaced by a generic icon. We tried to reset by re-establshing the file association and that did not work.
How do we rebuild the Autodesk icon cache on these machines?
Back in the day, there was an application that showed the drawing version # in the icon in windows explorer. That was good for then, because of the lack of object data in many of the vertices. The link I have isn't valid anymore and it didn't work in Win7.
What I'd like to have is something that will show the different Acad versions related to the icon using the product ID, for example:
2013 = Bxxx (???) I dont' have 2013 loaded 2014 = Dxxx (what happened to Cxxx?)
With the lack of backward compatibility between versions for objects (and I totally get that), it would be nice to be able to tell by an icon which version was used to create the drawing. I know the version information is stored in the header, which can be read, I'm just not a programmer.
Goal: using the native windows explorer, Open the folder containing the the multitude of drawings from different vendors and customers, usually 30 -40 .dwg files.
Highlight all the files, Right click print.behind the scenes without any further clicking or involvement from the user autocad plots the extents of model space of all the drawings to a designated plotter fit to 11x17 sheets.
