3ds Max :: Create A Shadow Map
Mar 22, 2013
I'm trying to create a shadow map and require a 2nd uvw channel to do so.
Using the unwrap modifier to create the map in the 2nd channel is ok, but after collapsing the stack, if I go back and re-open the modifier the 2nd channel UV's haven't been saved.

at least as far as anything beyond re-sizing and basic stuff goes.
I want to create a shaded area that goes from light to dark (a gradient?), so as to create the effect of a book page (sort of), as in the images on this page: [URL]
I have done something similar in Paint Shop Pro, a long time ago, but the details escape me.

I have a vector image of a truck. Colors will all be PMS. How do I create a drop shadow for the truck using a PMS color? I saw some responses online but they are either many years old or not as detailed. It looks like it may require a few steps, but not sure. The Effect>Stylize>Drop Shadow dialog menu only shows CMYK color options.

I would like to create an inner drop shadow around an image like the one shown here in Photoshop or Lightroom, and then automate it so as to use repeatedly on different images. I know how to make an outer shadow but not an inverse one.

I need to produce a PNG image that will be used as a menu bar that has a shadow effect on the top side only. The image will ultimately be just 1 pixel wide and then be repeated as required to create the right width (length) on the web page. How can I slice the image without getting a shadow effect on any of the other 3 sides?
Obviously the edges of the image must be sharp so there is no banding effect when the image is extended.

I just downloaded Paint.Net and have been enjoying playing with various text possibilities, but i'm stumped as to how to create a 'long shadow' look to a text title...
I managed to reflect the title, and with a couple of attempts, managed to rotate the text, and italicise the reflection, but i was looking for a way to 'stretch' the reflection - any moves/ plug ins that could achieve this?
Here's how far I've gotten with it - Attached Thumbnails

I'd really like to create an animated shadow cast down on the ocean floor by the waves above. That nice ripply effect where the light peaks through the waves onto the sand below. I need it to animate too, I think that will be very hard.
I can't post links at the moment but a simple Google image search of "stingray ocean floor" should yield some nice examples. I can't actually find any tutorials similar enough to adapt for this purpose. (I'd like to have the light ripples as the transparent part, and the shadows varying shade of grey to black)

I have a rectangular screen grab (Windows application) that I would like to simply round the corners and add a border. The image is not a photograph, but since I have Paint Shop Pro X3 and like how it works, I thought I would try it . I have spent some time trying to do this with Paint Shop Pro X3 with no luck. None of the pre-defined frames seemed to do what I need. I would also like to create a drop-shadow behind the image. how to do this or a video that I can watch. A list of steps would also be OK.

I need an easy way to fix a high contrast image such as an interior home shot where the windows are blown out and you can't see outside detail, but the interior is either correctly exposed or is underexposed. Basically what i need to do is combine the correctly exposed interior with the correctly exposed windows, showing correct exposure for both interior and exterior detail. To get the correct exposure i have been taking a shot in which i meter the windows, and without moving the camera, take another shot in which i meter the interior.
Here is where i get stuck. the way i've been doing it, which takes way too much time for my purposes, is to either use the magnetic lasso tool or the polygonal lasso tool to select the area of the properly exposed windows, and then cut and paste the selections to the other layer. The problem with this is,
it takes quite a while and i usually have to go back and do some cloning around the edges to fill in the spots that got missed, which takes alot of time as well, because it usually takes me several tries to get it right. Is there an easier way?

I need to isolate the objects casting the shadow and the shadow itself. I can't seem to get things to work. And Rendering out with even the object underneath it as a solid white is proving more difficult then I imagined to get the gradient shadows.
How do I do this. Again, I am fairly certain it's a render elements thing, but 'Shadow' isn't producing it.The scene is using Mental Ray, A&D materials, a skylight (no other lighting).I've included an image. I need the objects shown, the subtle shadow, but NOT the solid white chunk behind it.

I drew a box, then applied a drop shadow going to the right. I duplicated the layer, then dragged it to the left of the first box. I edited the drop shadow to go to the left, and it changed, but so did the first one. I cannot get the two drop shadows to go in different directions.
I've tried different things, drawing separate boxes, etc. but it still will not work.
Does anyone know why this is happening or why I can solve it?
