Is there a tool to create clipping path in image? A path tool? To use saved path afterwards in a desktop publishing software like Scribus?
Im using Xara Designer Pro X. No topics found in help(f1)...
I've been doing a lot of clipping paths lately and I'm considering purchasing Perfect Mask 5 from on One Software to make that process a little easier. It looks like Perfect Mask creates image masks. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have used Xara designer for years as its generally easier to use, but still can't work out hot to easily create the Outline Path and the pathfnder merge shapes function as in Illustrator. The idea is to have a block of text with an outline round the outside of the whole text, but separated from the text characters.
In illustrator the sequence is:
Write text and select then create outlines
Then Object, Path, Outline Path.
Then using the pathfinder utility, merge the outlines into one.
In Xara Designer, I can change text to shapes, but not generate an outline other than a line that hugs each character.
For some reason I am unable to create text to follow a curved path. For example, I created a simple curved line using the shape editor tool. After selecting the completed line I select the main text tool (the other text tool, fit text to curve, is grayed out and not selectable). However, wherever I insert the cursor along the curved line I still end up with a straight line of text. After much experimentation I still cannot figure it out. I know I am leaving out a simple step.

You used to be able to save a file with a clipping path as an EPS in photoshop, select "retain vector data", place in illustrator and hit cmd Y to see the clipping path. I need the image and the clipping path in Illustrator and the image is too complex to create a mask in Illustrator. I tried to save it as an EPS but "retain vector data" is grayed out.

View 9 Replies View Relatedwhen I'm drawing clipping paths around an object that has spaces within the image (i.e. space between someone's arm and body, or the space(s) within an object such as a coffee cup handle) does it not clip out the paths inside the outermost path? Do the inside paths need to be drawn first? I'm scratching my head here - it seems to be a CS4 thing, as other versions of PS have not seemed to do this...

The trouble I am having is that when I use image trace to create a path, I am getting multiple paths stacked. I have the image trace set to create fills.
All I do is place image, trace image with settings that give good results, expand trace, remove fill, apply stroke and save.
Is there a way to create one single path in illustrator, I am using the demo version with a view to buy but if this cannot be done then it's a non-starter.

We are having a problem with one of our clipping paths. Once we convert the image into a compression image for use, the image does not appear at all. No path, no image no nothing. Any idea why this happened? I know that the designer who worked on the original file used the incorrect "path area" selection (at the top) but changed that.
I created a clipping path on a photo, clipping out a person's head so that I can have the person's head show up over the masthead on a cover.
But when I save the photo in Photoshop and then import it into Quark, the option where it says I can change the clipping options in Quark is greyed out.
This is what it says to possibly fix it on the Quark help page:
"You may want to choose "None" from the Clipping path pop-up menu when you save the image from Adobe Photoshop, so you can specify which path to use as the clipping path when you import the image into QuarkXPress. Or, you may want to choose a path from the Clipping path pop-up menu, so you can be sure only that path will be used to clip the image."
I don't understand what that refers to....I can't find anything like that in the Photoshop options.
My goal is to have the person's head over the text, with the rest of the photo still retained in the background. As it is now, I just get an import of the clipping path alone, with Quark substituting the background part of the photo with a white box.
How to create text filled with an image?
For instance I would like to create some text filled with the US flag.
I can create the exact Raven image I want from a photograph he found.However, no matter how I try to fill in the silhouette, no matter what commands I attempt (such as convert to shape), all that happens when I attempt to set fill color as black is that the line changes color. It's as if the line itself is the shape, if that makes sense.
By the way, I originally traced it with a series of lines and then joined them, as I couldn't do this with one continuous line.
I tried converting to shape and then combining and intersecting, subtracting, you name it, using a black shape behind the lines, hoping to get a black Raven image. But to no avail. What do I need to do to fix this? I'm thinking if I retrace it again, I'll likely make the same mistake(s). I searched for a solution in this forum, but "fill" gets a ton of results.
how to create an image like the one of the flag in the attachment. I think they call it a "grunge" effect image - but I'm not sure.
I am sure the effect is obtained by using a mask, but I've never used masks
I cant see why this fails...
1) Import a photo.
2) Freehand draw a shape to surround an interesting part of the image.
3) Intersect the two.
4) Use the Photo tool to crop one edge of the Clipped Photo
Now I want to refine the clipping shape, so I switch to the Shape tool, but there are no longer any nodes to edit!
Switching to Wireframe shows that the clipping shape is still there, and the mouse pointer indicates that I can reshape the lines, but the behaviour is erratic to say the least!

In PS cs6 i cant find how to create clipping path for layer group (apply to folder from some shape layer with alt + drag&drop) created with pen, rectangle etc tools. Here is how it should look in cs6 but i don't know how to do that ?

They can be used in InDesign of course, batched and converted to other formats which need transparency, and so on... The one irritating part is that there's no easy way to distort or scale the clipping path and image together after the file has been created, or at least not that I'm aware of.
For example, I'm working on a piece of furniture which already contains a clipping path, but the client wants the image straightened (or, the perspective from the camera removed, which I don't like actually). So, is there an easier/faster way to do this instead of having to first distort the image, then manually try to line up the clipping path, or worse, remake the clipping path?
All I have found so far, shows me how to hand draw a complex shape. I just need a circle. I can do this in a few minutes in CorelDRAW and Illustrator.
You must be able to do it in PhotoShop. The end result is - I want it to work like a ship porthole. All you can see is what is behind the port window.

I need to produce a PNG image that will be used as a menu bar that has a shadow effect on the top side only. The image will ultimately be just 1 pixel wide and then be repeated as required to create the right width (length) on the web page. How can I slice the image without getting a shadow effect on any of the other 3 sides?
Obviously the edges of the image must be sharp so there is no banding effect when the image is extended.
Here I have a vector image. The pink stroke is a cut path that the software I use at work recognises and cuts. (Used for vinyl decals/stickers etc). All the lines highlighted in pink is useless to me, as it would cut out each individual line.
All I need is the outer edge of the entire graphic.
Note my crudely drawn red lines that border the image, that is exactly what I need. As you can see, the paths run through the image. BUT...When I try to erase the paths using add anchor point then cut path at selected anchor points so I can remove that particular segment, the colour essentially "leaks" as it isn't a closed area anymore. Rasterizing the image destroys the quality and I would like to be able to perform this task without loss of quality.
I created the path, but for some reason it's 'reversed' or 'inverted' from what I want - is there any way to change it so the spinach is cropped properly?

I have recently had to begin using Clipping Paths for knockouts and silo's. I am having trouble though with moving the layer that has been knocked out and the clipping path that 'corresponds' to that layer.
What I want to know is if I can move them and size them together and still retain a clipping path? Every time I transform the layer and have the clipping path selected it only affects the clipping path. If I deselect the clipping path and transform it only affects the layer. The clipping path just stays where it is and I would have to move it independently of the layer to realign it.
Sometimes I want to re-orient the layer from vertical to diagonal on the white background but that will unalign it from the clipping path.
all of we know about photoshop and many of us using it I am also using it for several months clipping path seems most interesting to me but I a little confusion about clipping path because it can duplicate any image what is your opinion?

down under step #4 it says to Copy (& Paste) the circle that's inside a Clipping Mask and to the drag it out of the mask in order to duplicate it twice.
I've pulled it out of the mask or even, actually, how to go about pulling it out of the mask
thus far I've Copied and Pasted in In Front ... does copying and pasting it in front bring it outta the mask?
do i need to create a new layer after I've Copied it and then Paste it on the new layer?
I have some type converted to outlines, and it is in front/on top of a places raster pattern. when I select the type shapes and pattern and make a clipping mask, the pattern disappears and the letter shapes are filled with nothing!
Matters not whether the letter shapes are grouped or not...is there a way to have all of the letter shapes act as clipping mask together?
Trying to mask type with a vector pattern (place a vector pattern in a type clipping path), but nothing seems to be working. Never had issue before. Tried path in front, pattern in front, converting type path to compound path, converting vector to compound path. A couple of times it looked like it worked, but the pattern was invisible within the path. Illustrator CS6, on a Mac.

Now that I have my masked photo/shapes I want to separate the shapes so I can edit them individually and independent of one another.

I'm creating a logo that employs a stippled texture (a half-tone) in various sections of objects comprising the logo. I've placed the stipple where I want it, created a clipping path to capture the area. Now I have all these other points that I don't need that I want to delete.
Is there anyway short of releasing the clipping path, manually delete unwanted sections of the stipple and then re-apply the clipping path again? It would be like 'Applying Mask' in photoshop.
I'm working with another artists's file, and I can't seem to release the clipping mask he created. When I try, I get an error message that says, "Can't ungroup the objects." I've tried releasing Compound Paths, but I get the same message.
