Premiere Pro :: Import Sequence From Another Project Without Bringing Associated Media Files?
Apr 15, 2014
My assistant and I are working on 2 different computers tied to a server. We need to be able to pass sequences back and forth. Unfortunately, Premiere seems to be adding the associated media files with each sequence import. Our project has fast become a mess of duplicate media. Also, I noticed this "new feature" listed on the Adobe site: An option has been added to not consolidate duplicates on import. Will this fix this problem?

I edited an online video dictionary (about 7,500 five second clips) and have them all in sequences in Premiere pro CC waiting to be exported. I hae been battling for two weeks now day in and day out to try and export... I am limited to batch exporting this project and have never had problems with adobe softwares in five years ( a great track record). I have tried many ways of importing or exporting the sequences to Media Encoder CC, and have experienced crashes every single export attempt. As soon as I add more than 5-10 clips the program crashes when I start the que. I badly need to deliver this product, any patch that will keep ME from crashing when you add more than a couple clips?

I'm running Adobe Premiere Pro CC on a 2011 Macbook Pro, and I was working on a project. When I went to render the whole sequence, Premiere froze and auto quit. When I went to open the project again, I got the error:
"This Project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type."
Every version of the project's auto-save files gave the same error. I tried all of the suggested tips like deactivation and clean uninstall, but nothing's changed.
Will taking the project to another computer work?

I then tried opening up previous projects and the same again has happened with the below message.
"This project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview file or codec could be associated with this sequence type."

I have looked everywhere for instructions on how to export a premiere pro project and sequence, and associated media, to final cut pro on another computer. Exporting the xml does not include the media files. Therefore when my editor opens up the xml file it fails. I have a feeling I need to use Media Encoder to export the media associated with the project. Yet I cannot find any guides or instructions for how to undertake this. My editor is using FCP 7 on another computer in another place, so I need to export 8 sequences/projects *with their media* to him via the internet (dropbox) so that he can do a final edit on his machine. I would even be happy just to be able to export a working AAF since that option also hasn't worked for us.

When I open my project the media associated with the project shows that it is loading in the lower left hand corner of the program. It gets to about 123 files left to load and then it stops. I then have to attempt to locate all the rest of files with the Link Media tool this works for a few files and then it stops responding. What is the problem and how do I keep my project linked to its media assets?

I have cleared the media cache
Media is stored on a 8TB Raid 10 NAS connected with a Gigabit router. The NAS is on my desk connected directly to my computer through the router.

Media file in Premiere CS6 comes out at 7MB, same file and settings in CC comes out at 147 MB. I have tried, deleting saved copies, old rendered files, seems to be consistent across numerous files. IS there a fix for CC or a way to revert back to CS6?

how to properly link my footage on my timeline to color corrected files from film convert. I know how to do it to each individual clip at a time, but when I select a whole folder, it always relinks the media to it's original destination and not the new destination with the color corrected files. What's the correct way to link multiple clips to new source files?

find a way to import the XML files to fix the digitized look Adobe capture gave my footage.
These are not XML from Final Cut. They are files saved from Media Express, a Black magic design program used for Capturing.

My current workflow is to use 3ds max to render image sequences of animation, then to use Media Encoder to convert them to mov files using the Quicktime Animation codec. The problem is that using these clips in Premiere prevents me from scrubbing the sequence timeline fluidly, even tho all of the files are being accessed from a Thunderbolt drive on a Macbook Pro. Even opening them in the Quicktime player causes sluggish playback. The images rendered are 1280x720. Because of the animation being frame based, I need the derived video to not drop frames like some codecs do, so the Quicktime Animation codec prevents that and it preserves the alpha channel in the images. So my question is, what can I do to improve this so that scrubbing the timeline becomes fluid?

where when I try to export my video, I get a pop up window saying 'some media is offline, it will be rendered using the red media offline graphic'. in Premier pro all my media seems to be online, I have followed several different video tutorials on how to re-link media and the option to re-link media is greyed out for me as there is no media that is unlinked, so why does this message come up when trying to export? Playback in PP is fine, all media appears to be online.
Having viewed the exported video it seems that all the media which has been replaced by the red 'media offline' logo is all the .MTS files filmed on my Camcorder whereas all the GoPro footage is showing up correctly in the exported video.

I am working on a feature length film which has 48 sequences with subclips and rough cuts created in Prelude. Now I want to start bringing this footage into Premiere for editing, but I am wondering is there benefits or drawbacks to creating a Premiere project for each sequence then merging them all together in one master project file after finished working on each sequence?
I'm trying to determine which way would be the easiest to keep things organized and not so overwhelming.

I create 9 Premiere projects, each under a root directory (proj/p1;proj/p2;proj/p3;etc.).
As I was working on my videos I was capturing screen shots of the video and using them on different layers. that is, I would be in proj/p2 and I woud capture screen shots to proj/p2/assets. The problem is that sometimes I would forget to change the capture directory and I would be in proj/p3 and I'd capture the image to proj/p2. I did that a lot.
So, I changed to a different computer that had a different real path to proj and now, all the images I did the "cross capture" incorrectly don't show up. When I try to do a "reattach" the file that is showing not found, it does not actually attach it. I have to re-add it to my project and surgically replace the new file on the time line (very painful and slow).

I have a project which has become very disorganized over the last year of editing due to PPs poor ability to effectively share sequences/projects across multiple computers. My assistant editor used a different computer and so the links in the sequences point to multiple "source" files in the project (some in imported folders). However, there is ultimately only one original video clip. The problem is that Premiere Pro won't allow me to delete the nested versions of the source files without also REMOVING the clips in each of the sequences that uses them. For example, the project folder looks like this:
- Original File Folder
-- videoClip-001.mov
- Imported File Folder (imported on one of the many exchanges between editor and assistant editor)
-- videoClip-001.mov
- Sequence version 1 (Uses the second video clip, not the first - although they are ultimately the same video file)
If I delete the Imported File Folder, which only has a mirrored reference to the same video file as in the Original File Folder, then the clip in Sequence Version 1 dissapears. What I expect, rather, is to see a "missing media" message in the sequence so I can reconnect it to the version in the Original File Folder. But I can't. BIG HOLE in Premiere Pro CC.
Why do I want to do this? In a large project with hundreds of video clips, keeping order is very important. With the sequences using multiple "versions" of the same video clip, that order goes down the tubes and it becomes impossible to work.

This is for all my Premiere CC Projects. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Premiere with no avail. Is there anything I can do in order to salvage these corrupt files and the work/effort associated with them?

We create many DV files each day that can't be used with CS6. Any sort of conversion would just add another unnecessary step. Do I need to stay with CS5

I've just tried to import a bunch if .avi files into Adobe Premiere (OSX) but they all failed due to missing codec. Is there a way around this? I've looked at some other threads but don't understand it all and i'm on a bit of a deadline.
I've currently installing it on my windows box as i know OSX doesn't play nice with avi anyway, is it likely to work?
The avi files have multiple streams -2 camera angles are recorded, when they are loaded both show and play in sync so i'm worrying about converting to another format.

I recently moved to CC in order to be able to work with Blackmagic's DNG raw files inside Premiere Pro. The move was successfull, I could work with such files. However, all of a sudden, I cannot import them into Premiere Pro. First, I cannot select the files and import them as a sequence, because the box will not activate.
Second, when I click on the folder containing the files, Premiere tries to import them, but then an error message appears saying "file format not supported".
I have seen other discussion threads about failures to import Blackmagic Cinema POCKET raw files, but I am working with files from the 2.5K Blackmagic Cinema Camera, which should give no trouble. In fact, as I said, I was perfectly able to work with them.
I have introduced no changes in my computer or the CC Suite, so this sudden error is all the more puzzling. The wav file will get imported, but none of the DNG files will.

I have tried a couple of things to try and get Premiere to see the AVCHD files. I have copied the all the files over from the Canon Xa10 individually and the "Private" folder and then tried to import. Still couldnt see them. It seems like its not a supported file type. PP should be able to do this shouldn't it?
I currently am running Premiere Pro CS5 with Windows 7 64Bit

I read the FAQ on files not importing but am afraid I am having a weird problem.I converted my canon's .mov files to several types :avi, mpeg, and mp4, but they still cause PP to crash every time I try to drag the imported file into the source panel.
I am running HP on Intel Core i7 2630 QM CPU with 6 gig RAM and 64 bit Windows 7.
Deets on the AVI file that caused the crash:
data rate 20000kbps
fps 29
1920x1080
lenth 56 seconds file size 97.7 mb
