Photoshop :: Save Bmp File In 240 Colors
Jan 18, 2005
I`m a 3d designer and Im working on a project where I should deliver some images in bmp 240 colors to the programmerer (the pitcures are used in an old DOS based software). My 3d sofware can only render an image in either 8 bit (256 colors) and 16 bit. Can I somehow remove the last 16 colors in photoshop (from 256 to 240 colors),

I'm using Photoshop CS2.
1. How to save a JPG in 256 colors?
2. Is there a way to see an image properties?
-- I want to know if that image is in 256 color or not...

I was having trouble with image colors when I used 'save for the web' and I found a couple of solutions in tech notes regarding embedded color profiles but there is some thing I just don't understand.
It says:
"To ensure that colors are consistent in Photoshop, ImageReady and the Save for the Web dialog box, use an embedded color profile for display in each, or preview the image in Photoshop using the monitors RGB color space. Note that if you use an embedded color profile for display, colors may appear incorrectly if you view the image in an application that cannot read color profiles."
what exactly a color profile is (what it does, when you should embed one etc) and some examples of the kind of application that can't read them i.e. if I send the photos via e-mail can the profile be read? put them on a web page?

I would like to save the colors of all selected pixels, in order to select the pixels of same colors on other picture.
Is it possible to create a *.axt file to load it later from "Color Range"? Or with a script?

I have a picture with large area of color: #fffdfd, when I save it for web (jpg) this color is changed to #fefcfd (in JPG).
I just can not save as JPG with #fffdfd. (was trying uncheck convert to sRGB, do not embed color profile - always #fffdfd changes to #fefcfd when save for web)
Â
However, color #fefcfd when save for web , does not change.
Â
Why some colors change and some not? Is it a bug ?

I been using photoshop since version 6. Now I have the latest CS. I'm doing a website proposal for a client. I spent countless hours working on the project with vibriant colors however when I save, and it can be any format from a PSD to JPG BMP TIF so on, when I view the photo in ACDsee or even just internet explorer (jpg of course) it seems as loss a little color. Like it was de-saturated a bit. Now theres not alot of difference but I like to get exactly what I see in photoshop to what I see in a browser, windows fax and picture viewer, or acdsee.
Now I been playing with the color settings and my save as option is ICC profile Adobe RGB (1998). even if I uncheck it theres no difference.
I do get an error when opening the photo "Embedded Profile Mismatch"
Embedded: Adobe RGB (1998) working sRGB IEC61966-2.1 and three options to choose from in which neither makes any difference (I do understand I can turn this message off but it seems to be linked to the problem I'm having)
I changed my working space under Color settings to Adobe RGB (1998) and the message doesn't appear again, HOWEVER it still makes no difference. Plus I get a Maximum Compatibiliy message. This version is giving me many headaches yet I love the new shadow and color filter additions

have the problem of JPG images appearing over-saturated when viewing them in a web browser compared to the way they look in PS CS4 or in the windows "preview" application. Here's the workflow: Work with an image in PS CS4 (Vista) with an assigned color profile of sRGB. Use the "save for web" dialog to create a JPG (with the "convert to sRGB" box checked). View the image in Windows by right-clicking and selecting "preview," and it looks fine (looks same as it does within PS). View the same image using Firefox 3 or Internet Explorer 7, and it appears oversaturated (mosty too reddish) as compared to the original. I've tried various permutations to the above (e.g., turning off "convert to sRGB") with no avail. However, if I convert to LAB color, and then save for web, the resulting image appears less saturated overall, even though it still appears more saturated as viewed in a web browser as compared to PS/Windows-preview.

URL....I am using PSE 12 as a photo editor for Aperture 3.5.1 and the photo is duplicated (as a tiff) in Aperture and PSE editor opens with the image. When I close the file and say to save the file it brings up the save as window.
Â
I tell PSE 12 to "on first save -- save over current file" it now brings up the "save as" window and won't save over the file (changes the file type from .tiff to .tif)

I have Photoshop CS6 and Elements Premiere 11 and both were showing estimated file sizes properly up until a couple of weeks ago, and both stopped at the same time. Using Image, Mode I have verified on both that the images I am trying to save are 8 bit and not 16 bit images. I am on Window 7, 64bit.

From the start, I wasn't able to save to jpeg without getting a dcm extension (no jpg extension). However, if I saved to Multi-picture Format, I would get the familiar .jpg and everything worked fine for a while. This morning I cannot find a file format in "save as" that results in the .jpg file extension.

I have two files that should be the same color and they are maddeningly different. The RGB values of the colors are the same, they are both RGB 8-bit files, but the file with the wacky colors reads "RGB/8#" on top of it's window frame and the other reads "RGB/8*".  The Color Settings are both set to sRGB IEC61966-2.1. Why? What does that number symbol mean?Â

I have a number of PSD files I've created and I'm trying to save them as PDFs. I can Save for Web and Devices, I can save as a .gif, .eps., and every other format I've tested, but I cannot save as a PDF. I get the error:
Â
"Could not save a copy as (filename) because the file is already in use or was left open by another application."
Â
I'm running Adobe Master Collection CS5 with Photoshop CS 5.5 (12.0.4 x64) on a Windows 7 64-bit machine.
I have a 928 GB HD with 697 GB free.
Â
I have rebooted and tried saving the files immediately after I reboot. I have killed my virus scanner. I have killed a number of other possible culprits including Acrotray.exe and CS5ServiceManager.ext
Â
I have run Process Explorer as recommended by Microsoft and found no applications using the file. I've also tried saving the file to my external hard drive and/or renaming the file with only rare luck.
Â
The boards seem to suggest Adobe isn't taking responsibility for this and pointing it back to the OS or other software. How/where to kill whatever process it is - but at this point, all my indicators point back to Photoshop.

I know how to use eyedropper to pick up colors and save them into a palette. could I export the colors I picked up (one by one) and save their RGB values into another file directly. Suppose I picked up 10 colors, I want the RGB values of these 10 colors could be retrieved by a single time. Now I have to type these RGB values into another excel sheet one by one.

I created a PSD file that will be used for making a sticker. I am using PMS colors, and the company printing the stickers said if I want a job to print in PMS colors I need to submit a PMS file. They don't accept CMYK or RGB files if there are PMS colors used. What do I choose under image > mode for this? I need to keep it as a layered file, and I notice that choosing index color requires me to flatten the image.

I have the student version of AutoCAD 2012 on an HP laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium OS.  I originally installed AutoCAD in June of 2012. It worked fine for 9 or 10 months but now whenever I select File/Open, File/Save, or File/Save As, AutoCAD stops responding and the spinning blue donut appears. AutoCAD never comes back and I have to close it from Task Manager. I uninstalled AutoCAD and reinstalled it, and the process went smoothly. However I still have exactly the same problem with the File operations. I apply Windows updates, but other than that have not made any changes to the software on the laptop. AutoCAD works fine for everything except the File operations. I am able to save with CTL/S and am able to open AutoCAD files from File Manager.Â

I did a search around, and did not find the answer. Basically I have attempted to create an action in Photoshop CS6 which will save a file in the tiff format after i crop the image. I want the file name to be the name of the image (which is supposed to change depending on name of the image) like this:
1280x720_MGXXX.tiff, where, in my case the XXX represents DIFFERENT NUMBERS.
Â
I want to apply the action to one image at a time. Each image has a different number (name). I record the action, add the 1280x720 text to the image name in the Save dialog. I am saving the image in a different folder from the source file. The source file name is _MGXXXX.tiff (again XXXX is a number like 2220...).
Â
When I run the action on a file, say "_MG2221.tiff" it adds the 1280x720, and saves the file. When I apply the action on the next file (_MG2222.tif), the action overwrites the existing file, 1280x720_MG2221.tif, with the image. The action always uses the name I entered in the Save dialog!! I think I was able to do this in CS4 and CS5.Â
I want to be able to open a file, crop and adjust it, and then save in a diff location with 1280x720 pretended to the file name.

I save a lot of files to "save for web". After saving PS asks if I want to save changes to the original file. I never want to save the changes to the original. Since the default is to change the file I am afraid I will accidentally OK the change without wanting to. I would like it to stop asking and just not save it. Is there a way?

I just had a question about the slice tool. Is there anyway I can save slices I make to one .psd file so they can be applied to another .psd file?
For example with these two layouts (2 images):
If I could apply some certain slices to the first one, it would be nice to automatically be able to apply them to the second.

I am trying to print a photo on my Canon MX870 that has been edited (cropped and a few slight lighting changes) in Elements 9 , the colours look good on the screen but when I print it looks different, . I have the colour settings from the Edit menu set to "always optimize for printing". The file information shows the camera data as colour space sRGB.
Â
I am using canon inks (all full) and canon matte photo paper and I selected the matte photo paper on the paper type in printer settings.
Â
I have printed good photos before on this printer (I think using photo gallery) but was not using photoshop elements at the time. Does it make any difference if the photo is saved as a jpeg file or a pse file?

I am working on a project for my online class and am having difficulties with the History Brush. Note that both files are identical in size etc.
Â
1. I created a color text file and saved it with a specific name.
Â
2. I copied an existing photo from iPhoto, as I couldn't import into PhotoShop, and pasted it in a new file. I then removed the white background layer and then saved it with its now specific name and closed the file.
Â
3. I re-opened the Color Text File.
Â
4. I then re-opended my photo.
Â
5. I performed a "Select All" from the menu bar of my active Photo then selected Edit - Copy and then closed my Photo file.
Â
6. From my Color Text File I selected Edit and then Paste from the menu bar.
Â
7. I selected Layer and Flatten Image from the menu bar.
Â
8. I right clicked the background image from the Layers Panel and created a snapshot (which is my photo)
Â
9. I selected the History brush and verified that this also displayed in the gray box associated with the Color Text file within the History Panel.
Â
10. I verified that my photo image was displayed in my work area.
Â
11. I start to fill the photo with my History Brush and the only color I get is White.

am having an Issue with CS6 when saving files. When saving a file using the 'Save' option (not 'Save As') the file is not staying at the size of the artboard as it should, it is however being aurtomatically cropped down to the actual artwork size. This is causing issues with the Process we work with as we need the file to stay at the artboard size.If I click 'Save As' and change the Adobe PDF Preset to 'Press Quality' then this works, however this means that every file we save(which is quite alot in a day) means we have to go through the 'Save As' option and manually change each save.why this has suddenly started to happen with our Illustrators and do you know how to fix this so that it stays at the Artboard size when 'Save' is used?
