Jun 25, 2012Illustrator keeps freezing when applying an effect such as texture-grain to a simple gradient, or even rasterizing a simple black circle. My system is about a 6month old macbook pro with 16gb ram, i7 and AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB. What could be causing this? It wasn't like this when i first started using the laptop but has started to do it everytime i try and do any of those simple tasks recently.

Apr 11, 2013Need writing an expressions in a label style. I have part of it working, it is {Rim to Sump Height}-6 now I would like it to put 0 if it is 0 or less but I don't know how to do it. It works great on positive number but I want it to put 0 if it is a negative number.

Feb 21, 2013We have a Structure Style that places a hidden block at the invert of the structure which uses an expression to accomplish Placing the invert text below the structure. (please see attached).
This particular expression was written for a 1"=30 Horz. & 1"=5' Vert. scale and we use it to label our structures in the profile view.
It works great for the 1:30 scale scenario but we also produce 1:20 & 1:50 scale plan / pfl sheets.
3 label styles can be used to accomplish this but would like to create one that would work for all three scenarios if this is possible? (Goal is 1 expression & label style as opposed to 3 of each).
I thought I had it solved & have tried various formulas but can't seem to get it to recognize the various distortions in scale. (The constant being the 5' vertical dimension for all 3 options)
50/5=10
30/5=6
20/5=4

Aug 6, 2012Often we need to collect our topographic/boundary data using a state plane grid, but we still need to label property lines using the recoded deed bearings. We have a style with an expression set up to apply this rotation to lines and a similar one set up for curves. Is there a way to store this rotation and have both expressions look up the value from one place?
I am worried that I will type in the angle for the line labels and then forget to type it in for the curve labels, or maybe the angle is typed in correctly in one expression but incorrectly in the other. If it was typed in once, then even if it was wrong, at least the labels would be consistent and correct relative to each other.

Maya Animation :: Assigning Expressions To Animated Attributes?
Dec 30, 2012I've set keyframes on the Glow Intensity attribute of an object so I can slowly reduce the intensity at certain points. Now I need to create a new expression to give a random flickering to the glowing object as the scene plays, until the glow finally dims out.
But when I select Glow Intensity and try to create the Expression, there is no option now to 'Create New Expression'. The other options are still there, but it seems that at the top I'm left with an option relating to the Animation Curve Attributes (animCurveTU..?)
Is there no way to add a rand() expression to give some flickering to the Glow Intensity if I also have a few keyframes set that slowly dim the overall intensity level? Surely not.
I've tried to manually create the expression in the Expression Editor, but when I have to type in the name of the attribute, it hangs the whole program and I have to kill Maya and restart. Either it will not work that way or I'm missing something.
Maybe another way get the flickering short of manually keyframing the intensity level for the entire sequence.

Mar 18, 2013I believe that I need to define a custom Expression and then add it to the Label Style of a Tangent Intersection.
1) I'd like to add the max superelevation (e max) value of a curve to the label. This might be impossible.
2) I'd also like to add the design speed value to the label as well. This could be pulled from that value set in the design criteria of the alignment creation.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Autolisp Expressions On Command Line?
Oct 16, 2012For as long as I have been using Autocad (10 yrs), if I typed an autolisp expression (in brackets) on the command line any output from the espression was echoed to the command line.
E.g. I type (+ 2 2) on the command line and Autocad returns with 4.
I installed SP 1 for Autocad 2013 and this bevaviour ceased, i.e. 4 did not appear in the command window although it did appear on the text screen.
I then un-installed SP1 and "normal" behavior resumed.
When SP 1.1 came out I installed that and again find that I do not get the returns from autolisp functions eched to the command window, only to the text screen.
I have now uninstalled SP 1.1, which I sort of hate to do, because I use those one line Autolisp functions quite alot.

Oct 30, 2012I'm trying to create an alignment label to display profile elevations at regular stations. Two questions:
1. I use an expression to set the text height. When I add a regular text component in the label this works fine, but when I add reference text I can't seem to use the expression as text height.
2. I want to use an expression to 'Truncate' the elevation, so that 178.35m displays as 78.35. I can't find a way to create an expression to do this (within the Alignment station labels).

Jun 4, 2013We have customized the Content Center for Wide Flange Beams to produce BOM Descriptions that match company standards. They work beautifully until Frame Generator is used. Frame Generator just seems to do whatever it feels like doing. eg. A simple 4-sided frame made from W6X12, will produce parts with different BOM descriptions and different part numbers even though these fields are populated using expressions in Content Center. Parts of the BOM Description are formatted using the Custom Property Format in the parameters of the Family Template in Content Center. This formatting is followed at times and ignored at times.

AutoDesk Smoke :: Expressions To Link To Letters And / Or Words Within Text Module
Dec 14, 2011I have been attempting expressions to link to letters and/or words within the Text module but it doesn't seem to work. I just watched both of Grant's tutorials on expressions and I can make expressions within Action but not in the Text module.
I will copy a value and try to use the "Link" button to "attach" it to another value and no luck. No "e" shows up in the channels. I can copy and paste the values to other channels but using the Link button does not do anything.

Jun 28, 2012Having problems using custom pipe properties in pipe label expressions in 2013? I have some expressions relating to stub callouts and the ones that directly reference the custom properties lose that reference every so often.
For example I have and expression called "STUB-Riser-Length2d" which is defined as "{Riser Length} / SQRT(2)" where "Riser Length" is the custom pipe property. Every week or so it changes to "/ SQRT(2)".
I haven't been able to find the pattern as to exactly when this happens yet. All expressions not referencing custom properties seem to be holding steady. The pipe catalog is on a shared drive on the network, if that makes any difference.

Aug 10, 2004I want to hilite an area in a layer to copy and then PASTE into that EXACT same layer, (preferably with the MOVE tool selected so that I can then move that new pasted selection around), is there a way to do this?
The only PASTE commands I see are PASTE (which pastes AS NEW IMAGE) and PASTE INTO (which does I DONT KNOW WHAT!) Some kinda paste to new layer and auto create a mask

Jul 10, 2013I'm using Photoshop CS5 on Mac OS X. Last year I created an artwork including colour half tones, but also some other simple halftone filter that I applied to layers of solid colour (see attached image - you may need to view it at 100% to see what I mean)
It's a simple half tone pattern of white vs 1xcolour using either circles or squares. I remember that this was applied simply, not any special process as I didn't go out of my way to create this effect I just stumbled upon it. I can't for the life of me remember how to do it again.

All I want to do is replace the "RSX" badge with one that says "DC5", but in the same exact lettering style as the RSX one, so I need a plain text design to take to a metal worker and put through a CAD machine or something. Mar 25, 2013I've been using Photoshop CS6 for awhile now on a very stable iMac i5 with 16GB RAM on Snow Leopard but recently its behaving very badly. I am having problems with very minor tasks like transform, open, save, move, etc. Photoshop gets hung up and the wheel starts spinning. Typically this is a font related problem but I've done every maintenance task known to man and still having issues. I've deleted prefs, cleared out brushes, action, tools, repaired permissions, my fonts are all clean, has nothing to do with time machine or background tasks (that i know of) yet it still runs slow. This is definitely not a slow video card problem, I have an ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024 with 16GB of ram and plenty of hard drive space. I've ticked off the "Use Graphics Processor" restarted and the problem persists....
SO, i thought maybe i need to update my OS and get up to speed with the new cat, Mountain Lion. Maybe its just not cooperating with Snowy cats anymore. I completed the upgrade last night and I'm still seeing beachball working on 72 dpi PSD files. I've worked on 3GB layered files in the past with no problems.
