How do you import or get a vector file into a photograph?? I have tried layers, and I set my photo as the background, but then when I open a vector file, that background file disappears. Also, if I want to add a gradient to a vector file, can photoshop CS2 do this?

What I bring to the software is my background in studio arts 2D and 3D. Photography is a tool to support both of these activities. Over the years that skill has developed and I have many great photos. The photos make me a little nuts now that I focus on digital. In digitals photos I easily have over 60,000 photos. I have some experience with Photoshop. I won’t say I am a proficient but will say I have good skills in it. I created my first logo in Photoshop. Of course it is not vector and I know it should be vector. I did it at no charge for a nonprofit. I would still like to create a vector form of the logo. Awhile back I purchased a book titled “Illustrator CS5 on demand”. It breaks it down in a way that Illustrator is less intimidating. It has renewed my interest in Illustrator. How do I more effectively merge all of these tools and skills? How do I bring what I know to Illustrator’s table? I know there are great possibilities here if I can learn to build vector graphics.
Ok I know CS2 can import eps files however it converts them to raster images at import.
I also know it can deal with Vector files - as in the 'shape' tool (.CSH format)
How can I easily get my catalogue into the shape tool? ie convert .eps to .csh?
The import is far to unwieldy as I can't even browse my library of eps files...
I am creating a series of music worksheets on photoshop. I have created some music scores in a music writing software called Sibelius 7. It has the capability to export the sheet music graphics in the following forms: .pdf, .eps, .bmp, .tiff, .png, .svg .
However, I have tried to 'place' each of them into my photoshop file to see which one will work.
But on saving the photoshop document as a .pdf with any of the graphics formats, the vector quality of the image has been lost, as it pixelates on zooming in. I have also tried to import an .svg file into adobe illustrator to save it as an .ai file and then import that into photoshop, but the image is again pixelated.
I don't really know what is happening, as I am essentially trying to import a file that is a vector (or at least does not pixelate on zooming) into photoshop, hoping for the same qualities to be retained, but it is being lost for some reason.
What should I do?
I am using Partha's version of GIMP on Windows 7. I have some .eps vector files. I am able to open them in GIMP, but not able to edit them. I have installed Ghotscript but still not able to edit the .gps file. The funny thing is that in Inkscape, let alone edit it, I am not able to open it at all.

I am trying to export a PAIR of vector files as PNG-24's, one at 72 ppi and the second at 150 ppi, Illustrator CC.
I also want both exported files to have a different SIZE that their existing (and of course, completely arbitrary) vector dimensions.
If I use Save for Web in Illustrator CC, I can indeed change the size, BUT I can't specify a resolution!
On the other hand if I try to do a File > Export, I can easily specify the resolution as 150 ppi, BUT I can't change the size!
If I go 'way back to my Illustrator CS4 version, there was a toolbar display of the selected object's (or group's) physical dimensions - see the attached image - but I can't seem to find it in the CC version of Illustrator.
As Retina resolution images have been around for several years, it would be useful to be able to have complete control over how vector images created in Illustrator could be output at 150 ppi AND with the ability to specify the physical size. And, being able to write an action to export the pair of different resolution images would be even better.
I need to open older vector files from 2008 (eps). They won't opem in my current apps CS5or CS6.

I would like to interconnect the letters, as well as an angel I have made to go above the letters. My question is, how can I join two seperate vector images into one vector image. For example, joining a letter E with a letter D. I wonder if theres a way to do this without having to delete part of each image and then re-draw, which is a pain. Sorry if this isn't really clear, but its hard to explain.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter the last couple updates for Coreldraw X6 (now running at v 16.4.0.1280) my version of Draw has been crashing when-ever I go to open any of our custom templates. The templates are rather complicated, and we've been using them for years... probably since Coreldraw 7 or so, and they've gracefully worked with every version of Corel up until now.
Each model year we create a new version of the template with the new model features and file the old ones away, which also ensure that the version of the template is not too old... ie, not still trying to work with CD7 files in CDX6.
I tried doing a workspace restore (F8 at start) and that would allow me to open the template through the File -> New From Template menu the first time, but once I had my workspace set-up again, the next template would crash Coreldraw.
Opening a template via the standard File->Open menu does not crash Coreldraw.
I've now figured out that if I close the Object Manager before opening a template Coreldraw does not crash.
There was also a similar problem with importing some components that we had created as separate files, and with the same result... if the Object Manager is closed the files import alright.
I understand that there may now be "bad objects" in the file that upset the import feature, but I also don't think I can mine my way through 1940 objects (29436 points) in each template to find the issue.
I have noticed that some pdf files seem to be 3D solids and I have also seem to recall having had the experience of running one through Adobe Illustrator and then exporting it as a dxf file, opening it in AutoCAD and having it still be at least a 3D wireframe if not a solid.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to make extrusions to an image. I am new to Illustrator and have read that .ai files are the only ones that you can extrude in AE. However when I bring in an .ai file and select create shape from vector layer, a grey square covers the shape. I am assuming that it is a transparancy issue and it is just filling in the size of the .ai project. I could be wrong though.

I've tried tracing the bitmap with various options but the line quality produced when saved to a .svg file is not adequate for our needs. Images from a PDF that are not embedded work perfectly by saving to a .svg file, but the bitmap comes in as one unusable entity. Simply put, can X6 convert embedded bitmaps from within PDFs into vector files?

And I am considering buying X6 for use in other projects. So, can x6 do this in either Photo Paint with a bitmap, or in X6 with a group of Vectors?
I want to wrap a bottle with a logo. The mesh warps aren't working for me in the above applications, and envelope warping will not work either. Transform-Warp is not present in PSE. I mention that because I see a tutorial for PS using that. How would Corel X6 Suite do this? I am considering buying the software once some questions I have about it are cleared up. I wish Corel would make the manual and tutorial videos public. I'd rather download the trial for actually using it rather than trying to see if some feature is present, or a workaround for a feature a competitor has.
I am also hoping to make in this project, some 10-20 different bottles with the logo on, of different sized bottles and different rotations of the bottles. Plan D is acquainting myself with Blender, but lets hope I don't have to go that far!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am "vector tracing" a logo in PSP, and exporting it to Motionstudio 3D for an explosion effect. I am currently able to do this with no issue, but the explosion effect (specifically the size and shape of the particles) is based on connecting the nodes in a vector object. For example, if I have a capital L made up of 10 nodes, the subsequent explosion effect with separate the L into particles based on the 10 nodes. What I want to do is have the various nodes that comprise the traced letter connect with constituent nodes in the center/surface-area of the letter to form a "grid" (in PSP) so that the subsequent explosion (after export to Motionstudio) is comprised of more/smaller particles. Is there a way of not only having a vector object with "fill", but also having that "fill" made up of other vector data?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using Illustrator since the late 80's but this request just now came up for the first time, twice in one day: the clients each want me to send them layered files (OK-no problem) wherein all the layers, even the raster layers, register as vector layers. Or at least all the layers, regardless of file-type (vector or raster) are contained within an unflattened Illustrator file. One of the clients specifically asked that the Type layer (No problem-all the type is on one layer) be "vector mapped", whatever that means, while all the other layers can be Photoshop layers, if necessary. So how do I hand them an open, unflattened Illustrator file containing both vector art and raster art? Can it be done in Acrobat, as a PDF? I'm working in AI and PS CS5, but I can and will upgrade if I have to.

I _think_ it was Macromedia FreeHand 8, and that I used a plug-in w/in that program, but I can't recall. Any way other than rendering the drawing as a half-toned bitmap and then tracing it? Or re-drawing the image on top of such a bitmap?

Just upgraded to Photoshop and Premiere Elements 12. Decided to use Elements Organizer for the first time starting with a completely new Catalog.
I selected a subset of my photos to just check it out -- a folder with 3 subfolders. I am certain there are zero duplicates in my Windows file structure. After "Get Photos and Videos" "From Files and Folders..." the import occured quickly but all 3 subfolders were duplicated under "My Folders". Photos were also duplicated.
It's not too bad that My Folder shows dupes but the images are considered 100% different between. For example, if I tag 1 photo, the same one in the duplicate folder still needs tagged. I should not need to run a duplicate image search either when the source folder contains no duplicates. This is really disconcerting as I have nearly 20K photos (I scanned every photo my mom and dad took from the past 30 years). Cleanup of false dupes in something that large is just rediculous.
Is this a bug? May-be an intentional function of the program?
