View 1 RepliesMy new Dell U2713H is on its way, and I need a new video card to take advantage of it. I work mainly with Photoshop and Illustrator, with a little bit of Video and 3D. No games whatsoever.
Â
How much video memory do I need? When I look at the Nvidia Quadro series, there's a big jump in price from entry-level to mid-level, but only the mid-level has 2GB. For desktop cards, even some of the lower-end ones have 2GB. Would the extra memory be good for working with image stacks and panorama stitching?
Â
For the more expensive desktop cards, are you mostly paying for enhanced gaming capabilities, or would it be a general overall improvement in performance?
Â
Most of the reviews I see for workstation cards are oriented towards people who do do a lot of 3D. Like I said, I don't do a lot, but I do some. Would something like a Quadro K600 give me a performance boost in Photoshop? Or might I be just as happy with a lower-mid-range desktop card?
I am currently running a quad-care, 4 gigs, with a nvidia 8800gts 640mb graphics card machine and using photoshop cs4 extended with windows xp 32 bit os.
While photoshop cs4 is fairly fast and responsive, I would like to have it even quicker.
My question is, what would make this happen?
Naturally a faster processor (i7 intel) would assist in this, but I rather not go that route. I would rather go to a 64bit OS and add additional 4 gigs of ram (total of 8). What would your suggestions be?
Add the additional 4 gigs of ram and go to 64-bit xp? 64 bit vista?
Build a new machine with i7 quad cpus, 16 gigs of ram and 64 bit os?
Simply use what I got because there will not be much of an improvement?
I would like to have it run faster without a great deal of reworking the system. Clearly what I am running now is pretty darn fast even though it is a year old since I built it.
I have a license for 2013 Ultimate Entertainment Suite. I'm wanting to set up batch rendering on a second workstation. Does this license allow for batch rendering on 2nd workstation while you still design on 1st workstation?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy boss just came in and wants to get a new workstation with Windows 7 64bit on it. We are, however, out of copies of AutoCAD 2007 to install but have many 2006 copies. Will 2006 run under Win7? If so, how reliably? Or should I suggest getting 2012?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have tried to load dbconnect on several 64 bit workstations usinf "dbc" and "dbconnect". In all cases AutoCAD Map 3d stops working. Generally, the workstation just spins and you have to end the program with task manager, but I do have on Win 7 machine that crashes all the way out. There is never an AutoCAD error message or opportunity to report the issue to Autodesk.
View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter shelling out a pretty penny for Inventor 2012, my boss set me up with a less-than-adequate off-the-shelf PC. I don't need faster visualizations as I'm not dealing with super complex assemblies, maybe 100-200 parts. I also don't care about ray-tracing while modeling. My problem is it took 24 hours to render a 65 second animation (about 1000 frames).
my boss is going to allow me to build a new, more inventor optimized workstation. I am using studio to do fairly complex animations. Fades, camera changes, constraint animations, all rendered with higher quality. I need a computer that will render quickly, and possibly higher quality if available.
I don't fully understand the whole "Direct X vs OpenGL" stuff. What should I spend my money on, knowing that rendering, not modeling is where I need improvement. I am thinking AMD system to save $$. Also, what to look for, fast bus, cache, etc. Just remember, I need faster RENDERING in STUDIO ANIMATIONS.
I need to move projects and clips from an old system drive (restored from system crash, unbootable) to a new install on a new disk.
Is there a "best practice" for moving projects?
It looks like this
Disk1 (old)
/usr/discreet/clip/stonefs7/old projects
/usr/discreet/project/old projects
Disk2 (new)
/usr/discreet/clip/stonefs7/
/usr/discreet/project/

(setq rr (strcat "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R17.0\ACAD-5001:409\Profiles\" (getvar 'CPROFILE)))
How can I extract this path without manually declaring it?
Something like:
(VL-Get-Registry-Path-Prefix (getvar 'CPROFILE))
Which will result in the following statement:
(setq rr (strcat (VL-Get-Registry-Path-Prefix (getvar 'CPROFILE)) (getvar 'CPROFILE)))

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have run into a small problem. I had to re-image a portion of my laptop, due to some "illigal actions" that caused some of my windows files to become corrupt/lost/damaged/unable to work. In that, I lost the regestry key (or whatever it is) for Photoshop, that is installed on another drive.
Is there a way to "recover" the regestry files without reinstalling everything?? I have all the instalation stuff on hand (or i can find them with very little searching), so thats not the issue. I had some problems with my computer actually accepting the CD at times when i installed the first time, so im trying to avoid that a second time.
I recently had to carry out a system restore following which when I tried to use my PS3 suite a window came up saying I could not use it and I must uninstall and then reinstall PS3. I am not the best with computers but that seemed quite simple to do however, I did not realize that I should have de-activated my PS3 before uninstallation so I just did a straight uninstall through the control panel. Now, when I try to reinstall I just get the following messsage - Errors 3 componentsAdobe Creative Suite 3 Design standard - Component install failedAdobe Photoshop CS3 - Component install failedShared components - Component install failed I assume that there must be stuff left on the computer following the uninstall that is causing this problem but I just don't know where to start or what to do to remove it. Can anyone help me with this bearing in mind that I am not that good with computers?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm on an HP laptop - Win XP Home Edition - 1 gb RAM, plenty of space.
So, after major, continuous crashing in Photoshop CS3, I decided to see if CS4 would work ok. It was nice, but I let the trial expire and decided to continue to see if 3 would get in gear.
I removed the trial software (i thought)
Today, I uninstalled CS3, so I could reinstall the whole thing rather than repairing it. It won't reinstall because the CS4 files have been moved.
is there some way to completely wipe out all reference to 4?
After rebuilding my XP system, I've NEVER been able to reinstall PS CS3. I will not rebuild the system again. Went through a dozen different tries suggested by support.
Will I have more luck installing CS4 or should I live with CS2 and some other brands tools?
I bought CS2 and registered it about 4 years ago. I've had it installed in the same computer ever since.
Just recently I had virus problems and Dell re-set my computer back to factory settings. The Geek Squad backed up all my photos and documents, but I have to re-install all the software.
I installed CS2 and the last step was to put in my serial number, which I did. I got a message insinuating that I didn't have a legit copy. I called Adobe, and they told me that it was the correct number. But, they flat out refused to give me any 'technical help' as to why I can't complete the installation.
I read some of the questions here and am now thinking I was supposed to have uninstalled the software. But I didn't. So, it must be looking like I'm someone else trying to get the program for free. I just don't know.
Was using CS3 but HDD started going bad. Had to use a new HDD and install OS, CS3, etc. I'd like to copy CS3 setup/customization files from the old HDD to the new HDD. Specifically, I'd like to copy my created metadata templates (where EXIF data was automatically added when uploading photos into Bridge), my created Keywords in Bridge Keywords tab, Bridge Workspace layout for Horizontal Layout #2, etc. Anyone know where these files are stored? I had defined a few simple custom Actions but didn't specifically save them so I read that these are probably lost. I mention this in case someone knows how to retrieve them.
