My refined edge tool stopped working. Before that it worked fine. Suddenly did not work. The magnifying glass and view dropped down window work, but none of the sliders do anything when moved. I've re-set the tool, and re-set all tools, still does nothing

I've been trying to select some fine hairs with the Refine Edge tool, but it always ends up looking terrible. This image is my from my most recent struggle. I shot on a gray muslin backdrop and either a ton of gray bleeds through or almost no hair is selected. I've tried viewing tutorials online, used the exact same settings shown in those tutorials, and my images still look messed up. It doesn't matter what settings I use either, nothing looks natural.
I can't give an image to a client looking like this, but I can't really reshoot it either if the results are just going to be the same.
I'm trying to get the refine edge tool to work. I selected my image using the quick select tool, then I click refine edge. When I move my cursor around the edge pressing the mouse button to make my adjustments the image is being erased instead of picking up the hairs. I do not have my refine edge brush set to "-", it is set to "+". I dont have anything else in the refine edge menus selected, it is at default. I even tried to enable Smart Edge and other features in the refine edge menu, but it still doesnt pick up my hairs instead it removes my "line"...
View 4 Replies View RelatedWorking on a portrait in PSE8/Mac. Brought up Adjust Sharpness, turned on More Refined, bumped the Radius above 1 pixel and got this:
Reduce the Radius to 1.0 pixel or below and the streaks go away. Turn off "More Refined" and the streaks go away.
I only had Adobe Photoshop for about 2 months now. I have been using the Low Key tool in guided alot. Here recently I went to edit a photo and my reduce effect button tool will not work. I tried everything from restarting my computer and the program. I love using this tool but I can not get the reduce effect to work.

The second problem is at other times the proper tool icon and function is not showing up and working. I select for example the pen tool and the hand tool icon show up and the function works as the hand tool not the pen tool?
I cannot figure out the refine edge tool in PSE 11. When I'm using the refine edge tool, no hair is selected, and if some hair IS selected it leaves a white fog over it. I don't understand why this isn't working. I was sooo excited about this feature!

I make my selection, press "Refine Edge", make the changes I require and the preview shows everything is fine.
I click "OK", the Refine Edge box disappears and my changes do as well! The only difference is that my original selection area has decreased (I'm no pro, but it looks as though the edges have been feathered.)
I have no other layers except for the duplicated background.
I have tried older Photoshop files and this tool does not work for them either - even though I have used Refine Edge at work successfully before, but this was on another computer.
Perhaps I have accidentally adjusted a setting?
I have long used the shape tool for creating graphic elements in my web designs. For some reason the current document I am working with has decided to draw the paths of my shapes from the center instead of on the precise outer edge. This results in all of my shapes having a soft edge instead of a clean crisp one. I'm not sure what I could have done to change PS to draw them like this and I've looked through most of the options I can think of and can't find where to change it back. Nor do I know if this even makes sense.

I tried isolating the figure from the background using Refine Edge and keep getting poor results. Maybe it's my settings, I'm just not sure. But after painting over my edges, I end up with terrible results. Unfortunately, I'm getting poor results with other images as well.

I made a Quick Selection of a person and am using the Refine Edge tool with the goal of extracting the person from the image so I can place her somewhere else.
I set the Smart Radius box, and Radius to about 2, smoothness to about 9, and then I take the Refine Radius tool. I start brushing around the edges of the hair to add missing strands to the selection.
1.) When brushing around the head, should the + that is in the middle of the brush be brushing on the very edge of the hair? Should it be touching both the edge of the hair and the background? How does it work best?
2.) Do you only want to use the Refine Radius tool over areas of hair? What else does it work well with?
I just can't make it work.. I need to use QUICK SELECTION TOOL to select part of image and then cut it out and paste it exactly in the same place. But whenever I do it, that tool automatically add feather to the edge so I can't paste it in same place again!
I already turn on hardness to 100% and I don't see any other options I can alter to eliminate it.

(also i can only press on the "save" button doesnt give me the option to publish.. do you have to save it somewhere special? IM TRYING TO CREAT AN OAM FILE FOR ADOBE MUSE... i can save it to my desktop but then it just apears to be html.. what am i doing wrong????

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I try and move a corner of my open document with the hand tool to the center of the document window in CS5 when zoomed out, it stops at the edges and will not move inward any further. It is sometimes more convenient to be able to work on a zoomed in corner of a document when it is centered in the document window. If I go to the rotate tool and set a slight angle, I can then move the document anywhere in the window at any magnification! Is there a setting that is locking the document at the edge of the screen when zoomed out?

I had created recently parallax scrolling with Edge Animate. Parallax scrolling is not working after placing the OAM file in the muse.

I tried to update it and it says that is that i have the recommended version (if you can see the year, its only of last yeard and it worked good for photoshop cs) I tried some steps from adobe support to go to preference and anable openGL options but it doesnt let me to check it.
I cannot get my pen tool to make an active selection. It completes the path, but then when I try to inverse selection, it says no pixels were selected. I am new to this and very frustrated. It will let me select all, but the path area remains inactive.
