Photoshop :: Rectangle Borders - Shapes
May 8, 2006For photoshop, I can put in a rectangle with 70% fill so its kinda looks translucent. But I still want the borders of the rectangle to stay there, how do I do this?
PS: how i center an image?

I'm looking to make a box that is empty in the middle but has a border. I'd like to be able to set the thickness of this border. I remember being able to do this fairly simply in CorelDRAW so I'm surprised that I haven't found the technique yet in Photoshop. Here is an example. I made that using the Rectangle Tool and merging the 4 layers to form a bordered box. This is not an effective method when my canvas is 2550 x 3300 px.

How can I prevent this? I am using illustrator CC(64)
I have installed the fonts but the amount of color editing and customization I can do is very, very small. For example I want to take a letter have it colored purple (so far so good) and then give a border to the letter like thin line of yellow (no option that allows me to do this).
we are talking about pretty big letters here but I cant seem to be able to do this. I am trying to edit this pre existing image and trying to enter dialogue bubbles with thin colored borders.
As for the dialogue/though bubbles themselves I can seem to find any "insert shape" inside gimp, you sometimes characters are yelling or crying or just speaking normally has to be shown by the dialogue bubble but I cant seem to be able to do it.
I have used photoshop before but it is very complex and I feel like I can work with GIMP much more easier and faster but none of these basic options seem to be available. Are there addons to install so I can work easier with than making every single dialogue bubble from scratch? *shudder*
Edit: I am using both the new version and the 2.6 version... I find the new version absolutely terrible, especially when it comes to saving your work as an image file but if necessary I will work with both versions.
I want to draw a semi transparent rectangle using the rectangle tool. i do this, and set the layer opacity to 40 or so. the rectangle goes transparent but the very edges of hte rectangle seem to be less transparent, as if they are drawn in with a white pensil. how do i create a rectangle with no edge?

I tried using the rectangle tool but each time i click on the background option after the rectangle is drawn, it disappear.
The rectangle will only appear again when i select the rectangle shape from the layer panel.
Is there anyway where i can make the rectangle show on the image?
i tried reading up some of the thread posted and i saw some thread mentioning doing something to the path. How is the path used?
I'm not really familiar with using paths and layers, so i need a really layman's term of explaination.
For more info, i actually set the colour of the rectangle fill 100% opacity 100%.
anyway wat is the purpose of setting opacity?
cos i tried ranges between 0 - 100 and there doesn't seem to have much difference.
What I'm in the process of doing is creating shapes in Sketchup and exporting them as 2D images. Obviously, those images have a lot of "dead" space around them that I would like to reduce.
I'm able to select a rectangle selection tool and select my image, with the goal of pasting it into a new image which will have much less "white" space around it. My question, is there a more precise way of doing this? I need to cut out an even pixel space, for example, a 128 x 64 (both sides need to be even), how do I know what is the size I'm cutting out? And sometimes it's hard to do correctly do it with my mouse, is there a way to adjust the selection borders with the keyboard instead?
When I use the Marquee tool, or the single row marquee I have perfect borders in my forms, but when instead I use the rectangle tool, the line tool or the elipse tool I have these strange borders that are not well delimited.
I have already deleted the default settings, but still continues the same.
Using acad 2010. I am looking for a blending tool in autocad.
for example , i have shape A and shape B. by blending them in a distance ill get tween shapes showing the transformation from A to B
here in the image you can see the blending from a star to rectangle. [URL] ..........
I have 4 layers (background, layer1, layer2, layer3-text). They fill all 300 x 600 pixels that comprise the .psd/future image. What I want to do is use a rounded rectangle to encompass all of the other layers, so that the surrounding pixels (around the rounded rectangle) are transparent.
I want all of my current layers to be the content of a rounded rectangle.
I saw that the Rounded Rectangle properties were not available on the regular rectangle (to change corner radius).

Now that I´m done, I realised there is a problem... how can I color in the drawing, if the lines themselves make up the shape? Essentially, I´m left with blank spaces in between all the lines instead of solid individual shapes that can be colored in.
What can I do? I´m so desperate I´m thinking of creating a gazillion individual shapes with the colors, and slapping them underneath the lines to "improv" a fill. But that will take waay too long, so is there an easier way?
If I could "invert" the shape I have now, so that the blank spaces become individual shapes, and the lines become blank spaces.
is there any way to add shapes, in the "basic shapes" bar?
or maybe in any other locations.
I use a lot of predefines shapes, that are saved in various files. i wanna make a way to directly import these shapes, whithout open files and copy/paste the dsired shapes.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm using photoshop (CS2) to ink/color a webcomic attempt of mine, and I'm a bit stuck for how to do the borders of the individual frames. I tried playing around with the rounded rectangle tool, but I have to be honest I dont have a CLUE what it does or how to use it.
I basically need to make a hollow rectangle with slightly rounded corners about 5-10 pixels thick.
I'm trying to make some very simple banners for a website, mainly to a 468 x 60 size. I have my basic banner sorted, with a logo on one side and some text on the other, which I am intending to animate next, but I seem to be stuck on what must be the very basic task of adding a frame or border around the whole banner to a width and in a colour of my choice. I have tried using the rectangle and curved rectangle tool, but can only seem to adjust the fill, not the line.
Can someone point me in the right direction please?

run a football (soccer) club for children whose parents are in the British Forces, posted out in Germany.I'm wanting to add a border/insert which can hold a bit of information about the player, to action photos i've taken of the child.
I've found an example of what I want (which will hopefully make more sense!) from a player photo from the football team I follow The border/shape has curved edges and it's main area has the club badge, players details (D.O.B. birthplace, playing position, name and squad number)
How to do basic things like creating outlined text or circular text. I'm trying to design a business card and trying to have text along the inner edges to create a border. So far the only method I know is to create sections of text and rotate them individually, but isn't there an easier way that looks more natural? Any methods that can generate a better appearance.

I've been teaching myself to do this using the magic wand, but it's quite time consuming - lots of undoing, trying different tolerance settings, zooming in/out, using polygonal lasso to 'add to selection' the deselected areas etc
Because the hair is dark and the skin is light it seems like quite a long process?
So I'm wondering if this is the best way, and how the pros do it? eg Would they just manually draw round the edges?
