Feb 1, 2014I'm still having a difficult time understanding how to use layers to edit digitial photos in photoshop. Based on every tutorial I've tried, I have found a common theme: the best way to edit photos is by creating copies of the original image and making different types of edits to each copy and then merging these edited copies into one final image that reflects all the edits combined. I have been lead to believe that the reason for making copies of the original image is so that edits can be made to each individual "layer" and not to the original photo. This way the edited layers can be compared to the untouched original to make sure everything looks the way its supposed to. Here is what is frustrating me to death. No matter how many "layers" I create of my original image, every edit I make shows up in every other layer I create along with the original. I thought that any edits I make to the active layer are only supposed to show up on that layer and no where else. Is this true? If so, how do I set up my editor so that the edits I make only show up in the layer I am actually working on? It seems to me if the edits I make are going to always show up in every layer I have created, and in the orignal image, then there is no point in using layers at all when I edit my photos.

Jun 14, 2013I have several discs/flash drives with digital pictures frames that I would like to insert pictures into some of them, but everytime I do as the instructions tell me, by first clickling new, inserting the frame, then I go to start and drag the photo over and invariably, the photo turns into a background, not a layer that will easily insert into the frame, a lot of the frames are png, do I need to change their format or what. It looked so simple on the U tube video I watched and it sure isn't that way when I try it. I bought a lot of these photo frame discs on ebay a while back and at that time they gave me a simple program to use to insert photos into these frames, but since then I've change computers a few times and lost the program, will do the insertion of photos into these frames.

Feb 19, 2012I have used PSP since version 7 but mostly for graphics. I have recently purchased a dslr camera and upgraded to PSP X4. I am slowly learning some of the photo editing features but would like imput on the best workflow for "fixing" digital photos. I am aware that all digital photos need some sharpening and some noise removal. My question is this -- should the sharpening and noise removal be after other adjustments (brightness, clarify etc.) or should those come first? I should mention that I have been shooting all pictures in RAW.

Dec 26, 2007Why do artists use Photoshop for their digital art? I have Photoshop CS3, and it does have brushes and stuff, but I don't see why a professional artist would want this program for art rather than PHOTOGRAPH editing. This artist used Photoshop 5 for some of his earlier drawings, and Photoshop 5 which came out in 1997 seemed to create a great end result.

Jul 20, 2007i have a pic i took with my dig camera and a "border" for a birthday card that i want to use...the border is perfectly sized for a 4x6 pic...so i shrank the pic to 4x6 and added a new layer and placed the border on top of the pic....then i added a "Happy Birthday" text layer on top...when i saved the pic as a jpg and had it printed, everything was grainy....the words and border were the most obvious but the pic was nothing to write home about....
what should i do (even converting the RAW image to a jpg) to make sure the pic, border, and text come out nice and crisp?

Aug 18, 2005I have Adobe Photoshop 7 and am trying to process my photos from a Canon Powershot A80. This camera does not seem to handle blue skies very well. Every picture I take up close, particularly using artificial light, seems to come out fine. Pictures taken in the daylight under a hazy or semi-hazy blue sky look bad throughout, as you will see in my linked photo.
Many of my photos turn out the same way as my linked photo does. I've tried various tutorials and nothing I adjust makes these photos look "real" again, at least not real in the sense of being clear and crisp.

Apr 4, 2007I have an image which I shot from too far away. As a result, it has very few pixels (less than one million, unfortunately). I'd really like to print it at 8x10, but I'm afraid that might not be doable. I'd be getting about 100dpi, and I'm pretty sure that's not very good.

Feb 7, 2007I have a Inous3 Wacom Pen and it's too sensitive to me, so every time I'm trying to draw the line not goes strait because of my hand movements.
I tried to play around with the Wacom driver altough it's only helped a little bit.

Feb 1, 2006I work in a dental x-ray clinic. We just purchased a digital x-ray machine. It is important to dentists that the image size is printed one to one. I will probably learn how to make the machine software do it but I'm hoping that this board could help me use Photoshop to do it as well.
The image has a centimetre ruler on it. I dragged the image onto a blank document the size of my paper. I used the Transform box to increase the size until 1 cm on the image's ruler size matches 1 cm on Photoshop's ruler. This is trial and error, though. It took me many size changes until the image was the right size.
I'm using Photoshop 7. Can I use a tool that will allow me to define 1 cm on the image's ruler and then change the size to 1cm according to Photoshop's ruler, thereby changing the whole image's size with it?

Oct 29, 2004I have a friend who is interested in purchasing a Digital Video Camera. They would like to keep the budget around $500 USD if possible. I, myself, would have offered her my advice, but in all honesty, I'm not too up to date on the latest happenings for that product line.
Since there are many great artists here, if anyone has delved into digital video, and can recommend to me a good camera, please let me know so I can tell her (they want this camera to take video of their first child!) They would like something that is simplistic to operate (she knows her way around computers though), and preferably something that converts to an easy-to-view media format.
