Photoshop :: PSD Files Do Not Have CS6 Icons But Generic Icons From Windows

Apr 23, 2013

I've installed my new windows CS6, all my .psd files have the 'generic icons' windows give to files they don't recognize.  Everything else has normal icons (i.e. Illustrator files) but the Photoshop files are blank.  This is true whether I'm on any type of viewer format, i.e. details, thumbnails.

Photoshop :: Creating Windows Icons

Oct 22, 2012

I am trying to create a Microsoft Word toolbar icon at around 32x32.

I have a vector image in illustrator and need to export it as a .bmp file.

The problem is I am losing the resolution and the end result looks like crap.

The existing icons in word are nice and smooth and seem to look fine.

Photoshop :: CS6 - Windows 7 Changing File Type Icons?

Aug 6, 2012

I'm using CS6 in Windows 7 64 (bit) - I've successfully used File Types Manager (freeware) to change file type icons (since the Windows file type editing has been removed).  My problem is that JPEG, PNG, & GIF change in lockstep - (like you would expect all of a similar type - ex. JPG, JPEG, etc. to do). BMP and TIFF are not affected. Is it a Windows or Photoshop matter? (This was not a problem in Windows XP and CS.) I would just like to have the correct icon (provided in the Photoshop.exe file) associated with the various file types.

Illustrator :: File Icons Are White - Windows 7 / CS2

Feb 7, 2011

I seem to have lost my icons for Illustrator CS2 and InDesign CS2 files. The files show as a standard white "page" icon, instead of the program icon. Since I often have multiple Adobe file formats in one folder, it makes it difficult to distinguish which ones are Illustrator vs. InDesign. Oddly enough, Photoshop files and GoLive site files show their icons for files.

I read elsewhere online that this could be caused by a cleaning utility program such as CCleaner when "{GUID} folders are deleted from C:WindowsInstaller." However, I can't find the answer as to how to FIX it.

I have tried using Windows>Default Programs>Associate a file type or protocol with a program to check that Illustrator and InDesign are set as defaults to open the files. I found that the programs were set to shortcuts within the Adobe folder. I fixed that by deleting the shortcut and putting the actual program link as the source to open the program. (Actual program .exe file was located within Adobe Illustrator> Support Files>Contents>Windows.)

Also, I have the Adobe CS2 Suite installed under Program Files (x86).

Paint Shop Pro :: View Icons In Windows Explorer

How to view psp images in Windows Explorer (I have Windows 7 - 64 bit)? When I am in PSP X3 I open my files by going to "file" then "open". I get the standard psp icon instead of the actual pic view. PSD and PNG files show up, PSP images do not.

I do not like using the pic display at the bottom of my screen. I want the largest workspace possible.

AutoCAD Visual LISP / AutoLISP :: Different DWG Version Icons In Windows Explorer

May 23, 2013

Back in the day, there was an application that showed the drawing version # in the icon in windows explorer.  That was good for then, because of the lack of object data in many of the vertices.  The link I have isn't valid anymore and it didn't work in Win7.

What I'd like to have is something that will show the different Acad versions related to the icon using the product ID, for example:

ACAD-5xxx = 2007
ACAD-6xxx = 2008
ACAD-7xxx = 2009
ACAD-8xxx = 2010
ACAD-9xxx = 2011

then in 2012 they changed to Axxx

2013 = Bxxx (???) I dont' have 2013 loaded
2014 = Dxxx (what happened to Cxxx?)

With the lack of backward compatibility between versions for objects (and I totally get that), it would be nice to be able to tell by an icon which version was used to create the drawing.  I know the version information is stored in the header, which can be read, I'm just not a programmer.

Photoshop :: XMP Files Appear As Applescripts (icons)

May 9, 2013

We have CR 7.4, and CS6. The files are D800 images. When I open the file, the image looks totally flat, but all the levels (numbers for blacks, whites, contrast etc) all show the same as my client's computer.

Also, before I touch the file the XMP files appear correct. Adobe seems to recognize them, and they have correct icon. However if I save a change to XMP, the file appears as an apple script file.

I tried the adobe clean up app, re-installed PS, am running the newest CR7.4. Is there something I'm missing? My OS is 10.6.8 Snow Leopard. My client is on 10.8 .

Photoshop :: Mac OS Finder Fails To Display File Icons For Most Files?

Mar 5, 2013

I'm running PS CS6 on a new 27"imac. When saving documents in CS6, the majority of times no icon is saved only the file name when viewed from the finder. Around 10% of the documents saved will have an icon, the remainder will not. This is across the board with all file types. If I open up a document through CS6 I can see the file icon in the CS6 as I search, it's just through the finder that I can't.

GIMP :: How To Create Icons (ICO) Files

Mar 15, 2012

I'm trying to create icons (.ico) files in Gimp and I am looking forways to preview the result directly in gimp.

To do this I'm currently using the "New view" functionality where Idisable most things (layer boundary, rules...) to display the image inits original size (100% zoom). I also selected the Padding coloraccording to the background of the image to visualize it in proper context.

The above setup works fine for images with a fixed background color, butnot so much with images that have a transparent background.

From what I was able to figure out, the only place where you cancustomize how transparency is displayed is by going to Preferences >Display. However, changing these options affects all open windows an notjust the current view. In addition, the possible choices for howtransparency is displayed are somewhat limited (no colors other thanwhite, gray and black).

With that said, is there any way of previewing the image while beingable to customize how transparency is displayed?

Photoshop :: Restoring CS6 Icons

May 15, 2013

I have CS6 installed on a Windows 8 system.  The other day I needed to install an older version, CS2 to test a few things.  This immediately changed all the Photoshop icons for things like Actions, Plugins, Filters, etc., to the CS2 icons.

After testing I uninstalled CS2 assuming all the CS6 icons would return.  They didn't and now I'm left with blank white icons for things like Actions, Filters, Plugins, etc.

How can I get my CS6 icons back?  Will uninstalling - reinstalling CS6 restore them?  Is there an easier way?  I need them back as I'm writing some documents that require screen shots and I need those icons back.

Photoshop :: Tool Icons

I'm working on a project where I need a higher resolution version of the Photoshop and Lightroom tool icons. I've scoured the internet and can't find any icon sets of tools. I could do a screen capture of the tool palette and try to res them up, but they fall apart quickly.

I did open the package contents and poked around in there and found a few things like the eyedropper as PNG files, but could not locate any of the Photoshop tool icons.

Photoshop :: Styles Icons Gone?

Oct 12, 2008

I have Photoshop CS installed and my daughter had Elements 3, but wanted me to show her how to use it. I installed it on my laptop to figure it out. I recently uninstalled it and now my icons for all my downloaded styles, brushes, actions, plugins, and shapes are generic windows icons. I keep them in separate folders to use in Photoshop as I need them. I can still use them, so it's not that big of a deal, but the Photoshop style icons are missing. I know it had something to do with uninstalling Elements 3 because I restored my computer thinking something was wrong and realized Elements was back and I checked and the icons were back. I uninstalled Elements again and they were gone again.

Photoshop :: Creating Icons ...

Nov 17, 2006

I have been creating icons for a 3D program for nearly two years now and used to send the icons in PSD format to developers. Just recently I have been sending the icons as BMP at their request but the icons now seem to have the halo effect creepin into them. They want BMP files and they use the upper left pixel of the icon to determine the transparency in the icon as they need a gradient background, and active state and the icons are desaturated when not used.

Anyway, here is the procedure I am trying to solve this but something is going wrong.

1. I use a 3D program to make 3D objects then render the image with a white background at 300x300 as a JPEG. No Antialiasing.

2. I open a new image in CS2, drag the rendered image into it then use the magic wand with antialiasing turned off and tolerance of 30-40 to remove the white background.

3. Then I use Layers>matting.Defringe to remove any artefacts. At this point the icon looks fine.

4. I resize the image to 26x26 and choose Bicubic interpolation. Finally I drag it into a PSD document as a layer.

5. To get the image into a usable format I have a background layer of pink (RGB: 255,0,255) so that it can define the transparency then I save it as a 24bit BMP.

Problem is, when the developer puts it into the program it has a noticable pink halo around it. I cannot do any more to remove antialiasing which he tells me is the problem.

Changing file format is not an option...has to be BMP.
