Photoshop :: Managing Transparency With Vector Graphics In .psd Format
Apr 14, 2005
I have a file that needs to be in vector format, however all of the white colors need to be transparent. The problem is that you cannot simply "erase" colors in vector fonts and the like, and there is not "transparent fill" option to my knowledge. Need I create some sort of adjustment layer and paint the transparent portions in?
Am I missing something incredibly simple here? I'm sure that I am.

This is my first post in the Corel forum and I hope I did it all right here:
First Bug -> In my last contest work I've tried to embed many transparency effects. While I designing my graphic I've used (among many others) a transparency effect that named »Behind« (in my German version of CorelDRAW it's named »Hinter«). I've applied that effect to a texture bitmap graphic and it worked correctly so long the bitmap overlaid a vector shape in an ordinary way. But after I include the bitmap into the vector shape (using the vector shape as a Power Clip) obviously the used transparency effect conflict with the anti aliasing function of the vector shape and the smooth margins of the vector shape turned into rough boarders and the vector shape looked like a bitmap in a poor resolution. I guess it is only an indication error in CorelDRAW but for a designer's eyes this bug is very disturbing and should be corrected by Corel!
Second Bug -> Often I use CorelDRAW for vector illustrations and that's why I have to integrate scanned sketches (JPEG format) to build vector illustrations bases of it. Here we have another indication error or better to say a performance problem of CorelDRAW. While I using the sketch image in extended view mode the zoom function of CorelDRAW works correctly and pleasant fast. But if I switch to simple contour mode the performance of zoom mode of CorelDRAW worsens rapidly. The performance of my computer is not the problem with this because my hardware is on a high level and I use an well arranged and clean Windows 7 operating system. It would be nice if Corel is able to fix that problem because it disturbs the work flow enormous and it minishs the fun that I have while I'm using CorelDRAW!

I get a raster image to convert to vector format. Here's a part of this image:
I tried tracing but the image resolution is low and I didn't get acceptable results.
I've also tried tracing the edge with line segments and Bezier curves. But when the lines close a polygon the resulting polygon is not what I expect.
What tools to use to convert it to vectors? I use CorelDraw X3 and PS 5.

I am having trouble doing this in my current software, Serif Drawplus, PSE, Photoplus, (I have Gimp but haven't used it ever yet). And I am considering buying X6 for use in other projects. So, can x6 do this in either Photo Paint with a bitmap, or in X6 with a group of Vectors?
I want to wrap a bottle with a logo. The mesh warps aren't working for me in the above applications, and envelope warping will not work either. Transform-Warp is not present in PSE. I mention that because I see a tutorial for PS using that. How would Corel X6 Suite do this? I am considering buying the software once some questions I have about it are cleared up. I wish Corel would make the manual and tutorial videos public. I'd rather download the trial for actually using it rather than trying to see if some feature is present, or a workaround for a feature a competitor has.
I am also hoping to make in this project, some 10-20 different bottles with the logo on, of different sized bottles and different rotations of the bottles. Plan D is acquainting myself with Blender, but lets hope I don't have to go that far!

I have been asked to create a logo for a client of mine and I have been asked for it to be made in vectors format? I believe it has something to do with, if the picture needs to be stretched to a bigger size, it will not loose any quality.
Well this is what I am getting confused with, Photoshop already seems to stretch things fine, without loosing any image quality, I have not had a problem with that before?

I've downloaded a photo from the net and then opened with photoshop, its an image with a white background so using magic wand tool I selected the white areas and deleted them. After this I went to save for web and have saved as PNG and GIF format with the transparency box checked but then when I open the image on my site the damn white background is still there.

I'm having trouble getting GIMP 2 to save some of my images with their transparency intact in .png format.
I've already performed the process of adding alpha layers and then removing the area I want to be transparent and then I've exported several images which have successfully retained their transparency.
I have three images, no different from any of the other twnty or so, that when I export them, do not retain ther transparency and instead fill in the entire background with white.
I've done other images before and since these three adn can't figure out why they're giving me trouble.

I have noticed that some pdf files seem to be 3D solids and I have also seem to recall having had the experience of running one through Adobe Illustrator and then exporting it as a dxf file, opening it in AutoCAD and having it still be at least a 3D wireframe if not a solid.

I have an MS Word 2011 document with an Excel pie chart embedded.Double-clicking the pie chart will open it in Excel 2011.Copying/pasting the chart into Illustrator CS6 results in an uneditable bit image.
Previously, with Word 2008 and Illustrator CS2, this worked perfectly. Mind you, I had tons of excess empty paths and such to scrape out, but still, after a couple of minutes' scraping, I had an editable .ai file ready to be cleaned up, captions typeset, and colors edited for export to .eps and placement in InDesign
In fact, right now I've had to jump over to my old iBook G4 to open my old copies of Word 2008 and Illustrator CS2 in order to do this so I can get this job out the door.Is there any way at all that I can get an Excel 2011 pie chart into Illustrator CS6 as a vector image?
I've tried the shift-click on "Copy Picture" method, but the pie chart still appears as a bit image, and the text is turned to gibberish. Saving the chart as a pdf returns the same results.
At this point in the project, asking for the raw data set and regenerating the pies in Illustrator isn't an option -- and besides, I've had to do that before. Oh, the pain.

I often create graphics in CorelDRAW export it and inserting it into my MS Word documents and finally convert my documents to pdf. When it is vector graphics, exporting as EPS works fine: The increase in file size is small and lines are displayed perfect independant of how much you zoom in the final pdf document. When I handle bitmaps, I usually export as JPG (or PNG), which works well too. My problem arise when I have a mixed vector and bitmap image. I have imported a bitmap into CorelDRAW and created some lines on top of it. I want to export it as a whole. If I export as EPS, the final result is fine, but filesize has increased considerable. If I choose to export as jpg, the filesize is fine, but the lines are getting slightly blurry. Is there a way to get the best of both Worlds - resonable filesize and perfect lines? Maybe settings in some dialog??

about vector graphics inside of Photoshop.
1.is that true to say that Photoshop is a raster based program and therefore it has nothing to do with real vector graphics?
2.text in a raster or vector shape render and print the same unless you resize them?
3.is it true to say that vector in Photoshop is just a special mask that regenerate pixels in case of interpolation (resizing) ?
4.does postscript printer can print raster text correctly even if it shows ugly edges?

A graphic exported in Draw & PP in X4 as a .png works fine.
The same graphic copied & pasted into Draw or PP in X6 does not.Repeatable 100%...The eyedriopper selection of the transp[arent color seems to pick up the right color, but the output presents like a .jpg. Viewed in IE9, Firefox & Chrome with same results.

I needed to edit the layout of a form which was in PDF format and sharp. I opened it in Photoshop which put it at 300 resolution. I made my changes and saved it back to PDF. When I opened it in Acrobat, it was blurred. Not badly, but just enough to notice.
How can I make sharper? Is there a step I'm missing?

In previous versions of CorelDraw, a vector graphic could be saved as a WordPerfect Graphic with a .wpg extension.
When you pulled this graphic into MS Word, it printed as a vector graphic and was perfect. This was great for such things as signatures, and looked realistic.
BUT with subsequent versions of MSWord, the .wpg graphic is no longer recognized, so one is left having to export a .cdr vector graphic as an .emf file which is NOT vector graphics and looks pixellated.
Interestingly, I can copy a .wpg image from a file made with Office 2007, into Office 2010 and it takes it!
Any alternative format that one can use to get Word to recognize as a vector graphic?

Is there a way to control the layer transparency in CorelDraw 5? We often have control objects we need to superimpose over the actual drawing object, but want to see through the control object (on a higher layer) so we can align the actual drawing beneath the control layer.

Adding transparency to an object makes Photo-PAINT render it falsely. It's getting rendered almost completely transparent.
Exporting the image shows that the alpha channel should not be applied as much as Photo-PAINT wants you to believe.
I've set the object's transparency to 18% after adding/combining a drop shadow to it.
Original object:
Object after having set its transparency level to 18% (it's falsely displayed almost invisible):
Exporting the image to PNG format:

We have an issue happening on many of the documents that we have that include a transparency or gradient. We did not have these issues in Draw12. (but did have printing issues)
1st issue: Opening these gradients will randomly flip them. Like so:
The bottom image is correct. Now when we print them from Corel Draw X5 to either of our printers (Bizhub C250, or Biizhub C360ps) we get the following (this is created from the same master file, same settings):
Notice the lens effect color replacement is gone, and the bottom gradient is barely visible, the top one not working at all.
Same document, saved to 12 and printed the same way:
Both sent with identical printers settings, same print driver, and as close as possible settings in the X5 and Draw 12 dialog print boxes.

I want to get some designs I've done printed, the design are pretty simple block colors and shapes, Xara Xtreme 5 is brilliant for doing these designs. However the T-Shirt printers (spreadshirt) want to files a vectors graphics. This is what they say on the site
Transforming objects into curves
Transform all design elements and text into curves.
This is possible with Corel Draw: highlight the part of the design you want to convert. Click on 'set up' - 'transform into curves'.; You may run into a few problems when converting complex pixel graphics into curves. Try to convert as few individual objects and colors as possible. Note: vector graphics for plot printing can have up to three colors per design.
Check the minimum size of the object
After you've converted to curves, you'll have to check every element of the design to make sure that it has a minimum size of 1.5 mm. One trick for checking this: create a small circle with a diameter of 1.5 mm and lay it over the smallest parts of the design. If the area is smaller than the circle, it's too small for plot printing.
Save image as vector graphic
Unfortunately, you cannot just open a pixel graphic into a vector program and save it in a vector format (.eps.) This is not enough. You have to manually make sure the pixel graphic has been converted into curves.
Can I just export as an .eps and it'll work, or do I need to convert to editable shapes then export?

Xara Designer Pro has an impressive-looking import format list, but I'm suprised to see that it can't import .svg files.
The reason I would like to open an .svg file is that there is an awesome new resource being built up of symbols called the noun library. [URL] All the files are in .svg format (which I'd imagine was intentional to ensure that lots of folks can open them. Check it out - they're trying to raise $ on kickstarter to enable the growth of the library.

I've been trying to find out whether gimp can import and edit vector graphics made e.g. with Inkscape as vector graphics and save them as vectorgraphics, for example in pdf. I'm mainly asking this because I need to make some ads for printing and they need to be in good quality and the best way to keep simple graphics in printable quality is to use them in vector graphics. An ad usually requires a background image and for editing those I need gimp. So in the end I need to combine these two elements and when I do it in inkscape I can't practically do anything to the background image, not even crop it properly, if it needs something to be done (It's kind of hard to imagine what the image needs when you don't have the other elements on top of it). To my mind it'd be a lot easier to finish it in gimp where I can do something to the background images, but is it possible?
