Photoshop :: Kodak Photo CD Conversion Issues

Mar 6, 2008

The Kodak Photo CD seems to be obsolete these days, but I have a number of old Photo CDs from years ago, so I have an interest in converting the files to some other format in the best way possible. In trying to do so with Photoshop CS2, I've noticed some issues:

1. Highlights are washed out. This is not so bad when the highlights are in the sky and I just lose some cloud detail, but it's quite unpleasant when the highlights are in people's faces. When I try converting the files with Paint Shop Pro, results look somewhat inferior in other ways, but there's more detail in the highlights, so this seems to be a Photoshop problem.

2. Photoshop provides the option of 16-bit colour when importing from Photo CD, which looked good to me, so I used it. I've only just realized that, as far as I can tell, the Photo CD images contain only 8-bit colour information, so I've just been wasting space by saving large TIFF files with 16-bit colour. I wonder why Photoshop provides this useless option! Or does it have some purpose unknown to me?

Has anyone found a good way of converting Photo CD images that doesn't wash out the highlights?

Paint Shop Pro :: Kodak Photo Kiosk Errors

Jun 7, 2012

Today I took a flash drive with a smart fix adjusted photo on it to walmart. They use a Kodak Kiosk for reading flash drives and uploading pictures to their photo machine. The problem I had was when I took my flashdrive and plugged it into the kiosk....it did not pick up the file that had been adjusted using the smartfix feature in Paintshop Pro X4.....what if anything does this mean...

Photoshop :: CS5 - Photo Conversion

May 19, 2012

I am working with a .jpg(rgb) straight off of a camera, I have converted it to CMYK as this is a photograph that is going to be submitted and printed and they want it CMYK , obviously.

Now I am aware that CMYK isn't as 'colourful' as RGB so I understand that.. Only when I save my photograph and open it, it is completely different to the photoshop file. COMPLETELY! And even when I reopen it in photoshop it is different.. See the image/attachment below is Photoshop vs Just open...

I have tried just the simple
Save As > .jpg
Save for Web as Jpg
Save for Web as Png
they are all doing the same?

I use CS5 on a Mac.

Photoshop :: Kodak Color Control Patches

Sep 23, 2013

I have been emailed the file of a painting by someone (on the other side of the world) who needs me to print some good quality copies of it on my R3880. On one edge of this is a strip titled  'Kodak color control patches' which is to enable me to obtain a good colour match on my reproductions. Any easy to understand click-by-click instructions as to how I use these patches. Also do I need any further software or hardware? I am using Photoshop CS5 with Windows.

Photoshop :: Open Kodak PhotoCD Files In CS5 - Is It Possible? (Win XP)

Jan 3, 2012

I have some old Kodak PhotoCD files (.PCD) that I would like to open in PS CS5.  After searching the KB and forums for info, I found the file "Photo CD.8BI" in the Goodies folder on my CS3 disk and copied it into C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe Photoshop CS5Plug-insFile Formats.  Unfortunately, PS CS5 still will not open the .PCD files.

I could install CS3 again and use the Photo CD.8BI plug-in there, but I'd rather not install CS3 if I don't have to.

Any way to open/convert .PCD files in CS5, or is the .PCD format so old that it can't be done?  (I'm using Windows XP Home.)

Photoshop :: Action To Make Kodak Plugins Possible For Macintosh CS6

Aug 22, 2012

Take action to make Kodak Plug Ins possible for Macintosh CS6.Aparently, they are unable to integrate them into the new version of Photoshop without your participation.

be aware that our Plug-Ins are 32-bit. CS5 allowed for our Plug-Ins to be installed in 32-bit mode on the Mac, but this was not offered for CS6. You might check with Adobe to see if they will offer this in future. We are currently evaluating the possibility of updating our Kodak Professional Image Enhancement Plug-Ins to 64-bit, but have no definite plans as of now. Please periodically visit our website for any updates to our plug-in availability.

GIMP :: Can't Print To Kodak AIO ESP Printer

Jun 10, 2011

Gimp is 2.6.11 (with the print bug fixed!?)
Printer is Kodak ESP5200 All in One, operating in wireless mode.
Op sys is Windows 7.

Symptom: any print request from GIMP results in the printer stuck at 0% spooled.

Going to other (native) Windoze applications for printing really sucks. The built in print function scales to whatever it thinks convenient. Windows Paint also does ambiguous scaling. All I want is an exact scale print ... and GIMP used to do this very well.

Clarification added: GIMP handles dimensions perfectly, and all I want is for it to print. I have no interest / desire to push the image in to some other application just to get it printed.

Lightroom :: Kodak ESP Printer Defaults Ignored?

Apr 4, 2013

I'm having problems printing from Lightroom. I'm printing on a Kodak ESP C315 with Epson (not Kodak) premium quality paper. As per Kodak's instructions, I turned advanced dot placement mode off. The problem is - even after I've done this and set it as a default in the printer control panel (I'm using Windows 7 pro, by the way), Lightroom insists on turning it back on. Because I can print using the same settings perfectly happily from Photoshop.

No matter how small an image area I try to scan, colour, grey-scale or BW, or how low I set the resolution, I get the message that there is not enough memory, and to close some documents, even when there are none open.

I can scan from the ESP 3250 into other installed programs OK.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium with all updates installed.

Photoshop :: Raw To JPG Conversion

Mar 3, 2009

I use CS3, 3gb of Ram and more then 50mb of free hard disk space.

When I convert a Raw image to Jpg the file size is reduced but opened in CS3 the Image size appears unchanged. What is the correlation between image and file size? I thought the Image Size was the horizontal number of pixels x the vertical. If this is correct and the jpg has less pixels how can CS3 show it as having the same image size?
in addition what is the use of Image Size other than to indicate the print size at a given resolution?

Photoshop :: RGB Conversion

Mar 6, 2008

Opening Nikon D300 jpg image (Bridge CS3/file/open with/photoshop) does a sRGB->aRGB conversion. Why?

The D300 metadata shows Color Mode RGB and Color Profile sRGB IEC61966-2.1 so that looks good. PS Color settings/Working Spaces/RGB is set for aRGB and Color Settings/Color Management Polices/RGB is set for Preserve Embedded Profiles (and the three check boxes are checked). I expected the sRGB embedded profile to be preserved but that isn't the case.

Photoshop :: RGB To LAB Conversion In CS3

Aug 11, 2008

I like to use LAB fairly often and have done so in CS2 with no trouble. I'm on Windows XP Pro, 1 gb RAM.

Now that I've loaded CS3, same image converts to black. All over black. Edge to edge black. I mean BLACK!

All channels are active (L, a, b). No mask is in effect. My working
space is ProPhoto.

If I convert it back to RGB, the image is still there.

What's going on here with CS3? I've done the usual color settings. I've deleted my preferences.

Also, when loading PSCS3, a message always pops up saying "there must
be at least one document open to run this script!" Don't know where
that comes from either. I'm not trying to run any script, just opening Photoshop?

I'm thinking I'd better uninstall CS3 and start over. Before doing
so, though,

Photoshop :: Conversion Between Mac And Windows

Oct 8, 2013

I work in a school district that is running an old version of Adobe Photoshop CS3 in a Macintosh environment.  The Macs are old 10.4.11 machines that would not print.  So, I set up a Windows Server with Macintosh accessible folders and copied files to this server.  I then had newer Windows 7 client machines available and copied the files over to their client machines.  Some of the files came over to Windows as CS3, but others didn't.  They show up as "File" in the format and not as CS3.  Is there a workaround for this, or another way to get these files to Windows?

Photoshop :: PSD Conversion To JPEG

Dec 26, 2012

Have been reading thread that one had posted about converting PSD to JPEG. From what I have read, seems as though no matter what you can not replicate the image you have created as PSD.  I have worked on a photo that was taken on my BB and to my pleasant surprise have been able to correct several issues.  I believe it looks so much better because of flattening and 16bit application.

Must say color, focus(originally was terribly out of focus) everything is great.  However, cannot covert and keep the work I have already done with Photoshop. Can I convert to JPEG or any other format that allows sharing without sacrificing what I have as PSD ?
