Photoshop :: How To Safely Uninstall
Nov 12, 2008
I just upgraded to PS CS4 and want to remove PS CS3. Since I downloaded them both I have no install/uninstall disk. Can I safely use Windows XP's "add remove" program from the control panel?
Will it do a total removal?

My company is upgrading from cs4 to cs5, I have Photoshop files with a lot of layers for website mockups that I will need to open and keep working on those.
My concern is, if we upgrade, would I be able to open my old cs4 psd files in cs5 with all the layers intact? are the any risks or anything I should do before I get cs5 installed. We use window PC.

Images on my laptop from 2 photoshoots in the studio today were EXPORTED from laptop as catlog and imported to desktop as catalog.
I imported without moving the files anywhere since I was instructed to move that folder to its final resting place.
The 125 images were importred into LR4 but I see they are still CR2 files.
Is there a way to convert these to DNG inplace? or is it safe to re-import these. I don't want the side car gig.

I have recently switched from the Creative Cloud subscription to the Photoshop/Lightroom CC program because I didn't use any of the other apps (so why pay for them).
I am having issues with PS and tried to uninstall it from my iMac in the manner I know to uninstall programs and can't seem to get it done.
I need to uninstall so I can download another version to be able to use it.

I see tons of negative feedback on CS4 - is this typical of this forum or is this a program that's not ready to be hatched so to speak. I just shelled out a fortune to purchase CS 3.3 (CS Web Premium).
I also see that several people have had trouble uninstalling these trials so I'm reluctant to even find out for myself. I had the same problem trying to evaluate CS3 in that it wouldn't install completely and wouldn't remove at all. FORMAT is a dirty word in this house.

All of a sudden Photoshop stopped working out of the blue. It was working one minute, then an hour later I went to use it again and it wouldn't work - I hadn't installed / uninstalled any software/drivers in that time, nor had I made any changes to any system settings. When I click on the shortcut to run Photoshop, literally nothing happens. I thought maybe doing a fresh install would work, so I tried to uninstall it, but clicking on it in Add or Remove Programs does literally nothing either. There are no error messages, nor does anything appear on screen - literally nothing happens when I either try to run the program or uninstall it.
I downloaded the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool and tried that, and while it runs fine, running it has no effect at all on my Photoshop installation and all of the files, folders and registry entries are still there.
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit. How can I get Photoshop completely off my system without formatting my drive and doing a fresh install?

I uninstalled all of my PS Plugins; then uninstalled CS-5 (Win-7/64bit), with Win-7 "Programs and Features" Uninstall utility,& all "stated" Successful.
When checking Program Files / ADOBE, there's still a folder labeled Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 bit), and consists of 58 MB of what appear to be various Plugin "data"
Since I've uninstalled all of the plugins, & plan to reinstall them from scratch, I'm temped to Delete the folder------ Just not sure why the Uninstall didn't remove it?

CS3 began to operate strangely (eg multiple unrequested Help windows, customized Colour Settings not sticking) so I decided to reinstall CS3.
First I deactivated CS3 (standalone, not part of a suite) then I tried to uninstall it. Using (Vista's) Program/Features I started the uninstall process - this began ok but stopped with the message:
"Summary
Errors: 2 components:
X Adobe photoshop CS3
Component removal failed
X Shared components
Component removal failed"
Then I tried to Reinstall the program (also from the Program/Features function) hoping that this would lead to a successful removal. But this led to exactly the same message after a few steps.
So - I cannot remove the program and cannot reinstall it.
Have searched this forum and Googled for an anwser without success. Grateful for any light in my darkness.

I have CS3 installed (upgraded) on my machine and decided to reclaim some hard disk by uninstalling CS2. When I started that process I got the dialog about needing to transfer the registration if CS2 was to be installed on another PC. I hadn't thought about it, but it would be nice to put the old CS2 on my laptop so I would have it to work with when away from the desktop machine. That dialog stopped me cold though, because the last thing I need is to inadvertently deactivate my CS3 install by accepting this transfer.
Does anyone know for certain whether it would or would not effect my CS3 to perform the registration transfer step when uninstalling CS2?

I installed CS4, and then successfully uninstalled CS3 (both versions as full Creative Suites). I realized, though, that I hadn't saved the actions I had created in PS CS3, so I reinstalled PS CS3 (and found the PS CS3 Actions Palette.psp file, which had my custom actions, from a backup I had made). I exported the custom actions to .atn files, and then imported them into CS4. So far, so good. But..
Now I can't uninstall CS3! It doesn't show up in my "Add or Remove Programs" dialog (either as the full Creative Suite, or as the individual component programs). I suppose I might be able to solve this by completely uninstalling CS4, which would leave only PS CS3 (and a few other of the CS3 programs, which were also reinstalled) -- and then maybe it would show up in Add or Remove Programs.
(And then I could -- I hope -- uninstall CS3, and reinstall CS4.) But if someone has a simpler solution, I'd greatly appreciate hearing it! To summarize the key actions, here's what I did:- Already had Creative Suite CS3 installed- Installed Creative Suite CS4- Uninstalled Creative Suite CS3- Reinstalled PS CS3 and a couple other CS3 programs- Exported some files I needed from CS3, and imported them into CS4- Now I can't uninstall CS3.

I installed photoshop on my second drive D:
This has now packed up and no icon is visible under my computer.
When I try to uninstall it cannot find drive D.
It will not let me remove photoshop via add/remove programs.
How can I remove all traces of photoshop, so I can then re-install on the C drive?
