Photoshop :: How To Merge Separate Layers In Paths Tab

Jul 2, 2013

how to merge objects in the paths tab. Here is an example: [URL].....

I have created different areas of outlines of a picture and placed them in separate paths. I would like to know how to either merge the paths (so that the 'banner' path is on top of the others), or how to move them into the 'Layers' tab.

I would like to view all these paths/outlines at once, as of now it doesn't let me while in the Paths tab - It only lets me view one path at a time.

I am using Windows 7, Photoshop Version 12.0 x32

CorelDRAW X5 :: How To Merge / Flatten / Join Separate Layers (objects)

May 6, 2012

I came across this site a few weeks ago and was happy to see that a community like this existed. I am new to CorelDraw and have been playing around with it because my friend just bought a Roland GX-24 vinyl cutter and I wanted to make some designs for it. I, however, am overly experienced with Photoshop and not enough with CorelDraw, but would like to balance that out.

I came across my recent predicament when I exported my CorelDraw image into Roland CutStudio and it wanted to cut all the underlying curves from each layer, instead of the black and white image as it appeared. I wasn't surprised this happened because I couldn't figure a way to join/ merge the curves before I exported, but I was still hopeful that it might cut the image as it appeared.

This first object is a blade layer and as you can see from the picture, when selected, its curve goes right through the other spiral object. How can I merge these curves? As it stands right now, I can't even figure out a way to select the two of them at the same time, let alone join the curves.

....and vice versa in this picture, the spiral object when selected goes right through the blade

....and in the foremost layer of the image when selected, the curves also continue through the spiral

Here is a picture of the current layers for this whole image. The front layer I paint bucket filled numerous portions of it with white so it stuck out above the bottom two other layers, so all the fills make it a group of 161 objects, and the next layer is a group of 2 objects which are the spiral and the blade from the first 2 pictures.

My question is how can I merge or join all the curves in the entire image, essentially flattening the whole image as it appears?

Photoshop :: CS6 Killed Merge Layers / How To Merge Layers

Sep 4, 2012

For what I need Photoshop for, I use CMD-E all the time to create raster graphics from vector shapes. I often use this feature to combine shape layers to create buttons.  So, this completely destroys my work flow. The only work around I've found is to create an additional raster layer to merge with the vector layers.

Photoshop :: How To Merge Adjustment Layers To Several Layers And Export To Files

May 31, 2012

I have now exactly the same problem as below with over 1000 images, I have saved them in .psd that has over 100 layers each. On top of those there is curves and levels layer that affects every layer below. I want to save all images to .jpg for videoedit with those curves at least. I don't want to merge same curves 100 times. Is there a solution in phothoshop cs5 or cs6 available? Would save alot of working hours. All I have got by this far is blank white images of adjustment layers and non adjusted jpg-files.

This discussion was opened in 2010 and I quess this is same problem:
"
How to merge adjustment layers to hundreds of layers?

Jul 28, 2010 10:38 AMSay I have a photoshop File with 100 layers.

And say I created 3 adjustment layers on top of those 100 layers to get the adjustments that i want for those layers.   I'm happy with the adjustments but Then I NEED to merge those 3 adjustment layers to ALL those 100 layers.

Is there a way to easily permanently apply the adjustments to each of those layers without having to do it manually? I absolutely need to merge the adjustments to the seperate layers because of how the layers are being used in a seperate 3d program.

So far what I've been doing is duplicating the adjustment layers for each layer and merging them to said layers separately.. I wish I could just right click the adjustment layer and Tell it to merge to everylayer it affects  or apply to every layer underneath it!

Illustrator :: How To Separate JPEG Logo Into Multiple Paths

Jul 20, 2012

My client has sent me a high resolution JPEG which is a monogram of his initial ("C") on top of a complex filigree. It's all one color. He wants the letter "C" to be a different color than the filigree pattern. The goal is to create a logo for his website and business cards.

How should I separate the C from the rest of the monogram? I've done an Image Trace which resulted in a perfect rendition of the entire artwork. But how to I separate the C? Any Illustrator experts out there?

Here's a lo-res version of the artwork he sent. I've already managed to eliminate the grays and turn this into a two-color (black and white) image. What next?

I've created a hand drawn vector in Adobe Ideas and imported it into Illustrator CC. I've used a basic example below to test this method, but I want to be creating more complex hand drawn vectors in the near future. You can see the same line in the 3 images below. My thought was to figure out how to normalize and image colors (based around your 9 basic colors, black, white, red, green, orange, blue, yellow, purple, brown). Then I want to separate those colors into their own layer. I would prefer to doe this in an action as well.

Photoshop :: Separate Shape Layers?

Jul 31, 2006

I try to use the circle, rectangle or line tool, it forms a new layer wich cannot be edited directly. I found a way to get around the "not being able to edit directly" part (by rasterizing the layer) but I don't know how to get all the shapes into one layer.

For example, when I draw a rectangle, it forms a new layer which I have to rasterize. Then when I draw lines in rectangle, it is part of a new layer, which once again, I have to rasterize. Now that I have these lines in a rectangle, I tried coloring 1/3 of the rectangle blue using the first line as a closing line. It ended up coloring my whole screen. I tried grouping the layers and then coloring.

I merged the layers just out of curiosity and it looks that way after all of the layers are merged. Why it is doing that. Is there something I can do to change this? it is just happened to one of my images. I have multiple pieces in this style and it hasn't happened to any of the other ones.

Photoshop :: Moving Paths Between Layers In CS6

Jan 18, 2013

I use paths a lot. Shape layers, vector masks, etc.

In previous versions of Photoshop, I could simply drag vector masks from one layer to another, just like other layer masks. Now (with CS6) I have to do a convoluted copy an paste, switching back and forth between the layers panel and the paths panel.

Is there an easier way to do this?

Photoshop :: Attach Paths To Layers?

Mar 29, 2013

I don't know what to really call it, but here it goes.

When I create a shape with one of the shape tools, it masks it or whatever you call it when a path. And where ever I move the shape, the path goes. But when I just make a path and fill that path, the path isn't attached. So how do I "attach" the path to the layer, so when I want to resize the shape, it wont lose quality.

Photoshop :: Merge All Layers?

May 24, 2012

Looking for a quick, one-step method for merging all layers.

Usually, I Select the top-most layer, then shift-click the bottom-most layer (selecting all layers between), then right click and hit "merge layers".

Simple enough - but I'm working on an "action" and recording the method above is limited because it relies on a file's specific layer names.  I want to be able to use this action as a generic action for any project with multiple layers.

Is there a better way to do this or a File > Merge All option I'm missing?

Photoshop :: Saving Layers As Separate Image Files?

Jun 24, 2013

I am trying to save all the layers I have in my PSD file as separate layers in a folder that I created.  I trying to do this by going to File- Scripts- Export Layers to Files but when I set it up and do this I get an error message saying:

"General Photoshop error occured.  This functionality may not be available in this version of Photoshop. -The command "Duplicate" is not currently available."

I am not sure why this is saying "this version" considering I installed  it not too long ago and the document has been made a few days ago meaning I never even used another version of photoshop.  I have all the layers visible too and even selected them.  I am using Photoshop CS6 by the way.

Photoshop :: Text Alignment Separate Layers Individually

Jan 10, 2013

I'm attempting to migrate from Fireworks to PS so I can access and learn more features and tools. One of the reasons I like FW is that simple things like aligning objects and layers, for example, to the center, top or bottom of the page is easy.  I can't seem to achieve this very simple task in my version of PS CS5. For instance, to center a  layer, I'm supposed to select another layer to reference it to?  However, when I do this, the align function realigns the other layer I'm using as a reference too. I keep reading that the align tool can't affect a single layer.  If this is the case, why have an  alignment tool at all?  It's a very confusing feature!

My question is this: can  photoshop align seperate layers individually? Or should I continue to do that work, layout and design, in Fireworks and then save and import as a .psd file to finish my work in PS? (I know that PS is a great photo editing tool but I'm not sure if it is optimized for graphic design work like Fireworks is.)

Photoshop :: Using Inversion On Paths To Mask Layers?

Sep 26, 2007

Is it possible to create an adjustment layer that affects the area outside a path? I can only get it to apply inside a path.

I am editing several thousand images of sterling jewelry. Part of the editing process is desaturating the sterling while leaving the gemstones unaffected.

I have no problem doing this, but am looking for a more effective method.

My original method was to create a path outline around the gemstones. I would use the path to create a selection. At this point the gemstones would be selected, not the silver, so I would invert the selection so that it selected the sterling, not the gemstones. Then I would create a new adjustment layer and desaturate it.

This method works fine, but the mask for the selected area is a bitmap and takes up a lot of space. I am trying to use a vector mask instead.

I can skip the converting to a selection step, and PS will use the path itself to mask the affected area. This is great, and will save many gigabytes of storage space. The only problem is that PS will modify the gemstones, and not the silver.

I can't figure out a way for PS to apply the adjustment layer to the area OUTSIDE the path instead of the inside. Is this possible?

Photoshop :: Layers - Group VS Merge?

Jun 1, 2013

I have an image of a beach-house on a deserted beach. I wanted to add a levels adjustment layer to just that area of the image, so I selected the house and the beach with two different tools. After making two different selections, one with the freeform pen tool and one with the regular pen tool, I now have 2 layers, both containing information I'd like to further edit.

Now what's my better option? To group these 2 layers or to merge them into one? I'm an obvious newbie, so I'm thinking that the least destructive way is to group them and then go about my editing. It seems to me that once I merge them, there's no going back. But is that the only difference? What are the shortcomings of each in a real world work environment?

Photoshop :: How To Overlay Watermark Onto Many/ Separate/ Individual Layers Of Animation

Aug 22, 2013

For theoretical purposes, let's say that I am building an animation and that I have 10 layers in this animation thus far.  Now, let's say that I would like a watermark to be overlay on every single one of these individual layers.

The only way that I would know how to do this would be to make a layer with the watermark, duplicate it nine times so that there were a total of ten layers with the watermark and then painstakingly go about the process of merging one layer of the animation with with one layer of the watermark and then repeat this process nine more times.

Whenever this situation comes up, whether it is a watermark or a correction of some sort that belongs on ALL LAYERS and I do this the only way that I know how, I think to myself that with something as powerful as CS 5, there has GOT to be an more automated and easier way of going about this.

Photoshop :: CC 14.1 Editing Paths On Multiple Layers Disabled?

Sep 9, 2013

Has editing paths on multiple layers with the direct selection tool been disabled in Photoshop CC 14.1? I can't seem to figure out how to do it now, shift- or command-clicking doesn't do anything. In fact, I can't even click to select individual paths on different layers, something that Photoshop has had forever.

While it was at times problematic the way it was in 14.0 (always selecting multiple layers and having to go into isolation mode to edit just one), there were times when it was useful to edit multiple layers, or even just click between layers with the direct selection tool.

Also, what is the custom keyboard shortcut for entering/exiting isolation mode? It is mentioned in the above image, but what actually is it?
