Photoshop :: How To Increase The Work Space Larger Without Enlarging The Whole Image
May 1, 2005
How can I increase my work space (the photoshop file open) ? I've tried Image > Image Size but when height or width is changed, the whole picture is enlarged to fit into the new size.
I would like to keep the image and simply add 200px to the bottom of the file, is this possible?

When I open an Image in Photoshop CC the image does not appear in my work space. The tab identifies that the image is opened, layers shows the image is open, however it is not on the screen. All tools, brushes etc work, but I can't see what they are doing. I can only see the image if i click the tab and move it around. Once my mouse lets go of the image window it dissapears again. After moving it around and such it gets buggy and the image crashes not Photoshop. i have attached two screen shots of my problem. the second with the image, i have my mouse clicked, held down holding onto the window to acheive this.

how do u do that ? i had a look at the clone stamp and the other tools, but it looks like really stupid the way i use them....
a) describe how its done ?
b) do it then and show me ?

I've got a sewing pattern that was drawn by hand. It's larger than a standard sheet of printer paper (maybe 14"x20" or so). I scanned it in two pieces and matched those up, then used the pen tool to trace around the original pattern and stroked the path. Now I need to reduce the whole thing in such a way that if someone else were to download the file and enlarge it by the same amount (or trace around it with X amount of added space all around) it would match my original pattern. (Gee, does that make sense? I hope I explained it right.) I have tried changing the image size, saving it as a new file, and then opening that new file and enlarging the image size by the same amount I reduced it, but when I print it (just allowing the lines to go off the edges of the paper since it's too big), it doesn't match my original.

So currently I have an image that I'll be using as my background for a wallpaper, however the dimensions of the image is 2100x1184, and the final dimensions of my wallpaper will be 2880x1800. Therefore I need to re-scale the image so that it's bigger. Now knowing that I can't do that without loss of quality, I've decided to instead "add" stuff to the image such that it looks larger. Eg. expanding the sky, adding additional buildings.
I've tried using the patch tool, but it doesn't let me add to the space outside of the image (my canvas is 2880x1800, and the empty space is transparent).
I'm wondering, is there any tools/techniques for accomplishing what I'm trying to do? Or even better, is there another method of enlarging the image without loss of quality?

The problem I am having is I had to take a screenshot of a picture online and I need to identify specific wording on a small item in someones hand. I tried clicking on resize image and unchecked re-sample image but that is not working either.

The specific task I need photoshop for is: taking small low-quality images and making them big and sharp
For instance, I'd like to be able to cut out the squirrel from this image and then enlarge it to a desktop wallpaper size.

I started a new project. I set the file criteria for 4" wide 5" high, 300 resolution, CMYK.
When I save the file as a JPEG and export it for print the image is huge. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
I check the settings again, after noticing they are huge, and the settings show it's still 4" wide 5" high, with 1200 pixels wide, 1500 pixels high.
What am I doing wrong? How can I avoid it on future projects, and how can I fix this project?

I am snapping from Nikon Coolpix L1 camera into 6.2 MPixel mode. When It comes to photoshop, I can see that the normal document size is, Width : 9.387 in and Height : 7.04 in (I am giving this reference from menu Image->Image Size).
Now, I am reducing this document into a size of W=5.347" x H=4.01" size for printing. Taking four nos. of similar documents and trying to paste all four documents into a single sheet of size 12"x8". This is because that the printing cost of a 12"x8" paper will be least, and that is why I am trying to compose four 5.3"x4" photographs into a single 12"x8" paper.
But the problem is that, when I am trying to paste (using copy-paste or drag-n-drop) any of the source pictures into destination sheet, the picture in the destination sheet is expanding and filling all the space of 12"x8".
What is the problem?

I am suddenly having a problem here with enlarging my photographs that I am editing. In the past, I would open an image and then click on Control + 0 (zero). This would enlarge the image to the working area. Also, it would do the same thing if I double clicked on the little hand on the toolbar on left side of screen. For some reason, this stopped working. How do I get this back?
I have both PSE 10 and 7 on 2 computers.

I have a jpeg of an image that I will have to increase roughly 140% for a final print size of 16"x20". I am creating the final design in InDesign, but am editing the image in Photoshop first. My question is what's the best way to increase the size of the jpeg first in Photoshop (I assume) so that when I bring it into InDesign it is maximized in terms of resolution but not so large that the file size prohibitive for sending.
I've already cropped the image, but haven't adjusted any of the sizes. The dimensions are currently: 3233 pixels x 2586 pixels, and 10.777 in x 8.62 in at 300 pixels per inch.
Do I bring it into InDesign this way or increase the document size first in Photoshop? If I increase the size in Photoshop, I assume I should resample the image. If I do, that increases the pixel dimensions and file size to over 82.4M. Is there a way to keep the 300 ppi resolution while reducing the file size?

I'm in PSE 10 and when I crop a small portion of an image and accept the crop, it remains a small image instead of snapping to a larger image like it did in PSE 6. I know there must be some way to have the small image automatically made larger rather than having to click on the magnifier and "+" and then on the image until it is a size I can work on. I've checked the FAQs and Photoshop Elements 10 but can't find the answer.
