Photoshop :: How To Get A Layer (strokes) Anti-aliased

Nov 9, 2012

I create my layers with the pen-tool and some of them I'd like to have a few - several wide pixel border -- and want to use the stroke effect.  However, when I do, I get jagged edges on diagonals and curves.

How do I get these strokes to be anti-aliased?

Photoshop :: CS6 - Mac Brush Preview Not Anti Aliased?

May 21, 2012

My friend recently bought a mac and is running CS6, the brush preview doesnt seem to be smooth as usual, as you can see the hardness is 50% and should have a soft edged preview display,

but thats not occuring, and the brush also draws with hard edges in the preview window, this was the default soft edged brush selected first.

Photoshop :: Coloring Anti Aliased Drawings

Feb 17, 2008

This is what you get when you fill something you've drawn with anti alias.
There's an uncolored space between the filling and the contour.

How do I work around this problem?
Is there som setting that can fix it, or do I have to fix it manually?
I've come up with 2 manual methods for fixing this.

Either making the background a similar color to that of the contour (if you've got black contours you use a nearly black background) so that the color in the spaces blends in with the contour.
But this doesn't work if you want to use more than one contour-color...

Photoshop :: Changing Colors Of Rasterized Anti-aliased Text

Jun 9, 2009

I have a set of images of complex text that has already been rasterized into pixels. My client would like the images transformed with a different background color and different foreground (text) color.

Just replacing the 2 colors of course does not preserve the antialiasing which provides the smoothness. And when I try hand-editing the aliased pixels it takes forever and always looks pretty bad.

Ideally there would be a way to transform the color schema globally so that the 2 foreground and background colors are changed as directed, and all "intermediate" antialias pixels adjust "accordingly". Does such a transformation exist -- can you specify a color transformation that adjusts 2 colors at once?

Or is there a more painstaking process of masks and such? I've tried several versions with masks, selects, feathering etc. but haven't found anything yet that gives professional antialias quality to the final recolored result.

GIMP :: How To Make Anti-aliased Triangle

Apr 21, 2012

I made a triangle with the path tool, but then when I fill it with bucket fill the pixels either get filled or not filled. I want the original triangle, which doesn't lie on pixel edges but between edges ([0,16],[8.5,0],[17,16]), to be painted in such a way that if a pixel is partially in the triangle it gets partially painted. I'm working on a 17x16 size image.

Photoshop :: Large Strokes (layer Effect) Uneven At Corners?

May 22, 2012

I'm using Photoshop CS6, but I've confirmed that this happens on CS4, CS5 and CS5.1 too.

When I create a shape (say a simple triangle or such, using the various Shape tools), then apply a large (40px) Stroke Layer Effect to it, the corners of the stroke aren't smooth - they're stepped/jagged.

Note how the corners of the stroke aren't perfectly curved, but are made up of noticeable straight lines. The document you're seeing is being viewed at 100%, by the way. The stroke is set to Outside, and is 40px in size.

I'm aware of the new native strokes for vector shapes in CS6, and they don't have the problem, but in a certain project I need to combine both the native vector strokes and also the stroke layer effect, so I can't simply use the native strokes instead.

I'm also aware that I could use an Illustrator Smart Object with a pre-applied stroke, but that doesn't address whether this behaviour in Photoshop is broken or not.

It's been suggested to me that this problem arises because Photoshop applies the stroke layer effect to the rendered bitmap of the layer, not to the vector shape itself, and that's why the problem has persisted for several versions of CS.

GIMP :: Getting Anti-aliasing Working With Alpha Layer

Sep 3, 2011

So I have this small image consisting of a sine:

and I would like to get a gradient border on it (something like two pixels would be perfect) from the green sine to black. (Partial transparancy would be nicer but since .gif doesn't support that...and yes I do need it to be a .gif XD)

Problem is...that I can't get any of the filter options to work, they are all disabled. After some tests I noticed that this is because there's an alpha layer that for some reason disables the filters.

So...how to get a gradient (green to black) border on the sine?

Photoshop :: Curved Brush Strokes Coming Out As Straight Brush Strokes

Feb 8, 2012

I recently upgraded my computer to Windows 7 (32 bit) and installed CS5 on it. Everything seems to be fine, but using my wacom intuos 3 tablet i found that when making curved brush strokes every so often it came out as a straight line, the straight line being where i start and finish the curve (see pic below. The S stroke is what should happen. The straight line is what happens every so often with the same motion).

At first i thought it was the tablet and reinstalled the drivers to no effect. Since then i've discovered that the same thing occurs with the mouse. The problem occurs once every five or so strokes (i'm doing digital art, so there's a lot of strokes). It never happens if i do a stroke slowly, but will almost always happen if i do a fast stroke.

Testing other painting programs i've found them all to be fine (i grabbed trials of open Canvas, Sai and Gimp and had no such issues). However, getting out my old copy of CS2, i found it had the same problem. The problem does appear to be Photoshop + my computer based. I've since reinstalled them both but had no success there either. (My computer is a intel i3 btw with 8gb of ram, so i wouldn't believe it to be a performance issue)

Photoshop :: Getting Rid Of Anti-aliasing

Mar 16, 2006

I scanned some text hand-written with a magic marker. i use threshold to get the artwork plain black and white, select the white with the magic wand, select similar and then delete. i'm left with the solid black image with crisp edges. i have marquee tools, lasso tools, and magic wand set to anti-aliasing off. feather i set to 0.

when i rotate the image to make it level, the image gets anti-aliased. to try to correct that i select the pixels of the image with command click on the layer, delete that layer and make a new layer. then i just have shape of the image created by the selection tool. when i use fill to try to fill it in, the image is anti-aliased. all i want to do is fiil in exactly inside the shape that i have selected.

Photoshop :: No Anti-alias?

May 13, 2003

I created a pixel/blocky style of logo in Illustrator. Need to bring it into Photoshop for scaling/coloring/etc. Unfortunately, when I try to scale the logo down in Photoshop 7 (via drag/drop/scale/place), it applies anti-aliasing to the logo. This is obviously no good since the logo is pixel based, including a pixel style font.

How do you resize/scale things without anti-aliasing in Photoshop? (Especially with the Transform/Scale tool, as opposed to using "Image > Resize" (with "Resample Image: Nearest Neighbor").)

I'm not used to using files back and forth between Illustrator and Photoshop.

I am filling two paths with a common edge; when the Anti-alias box is un-checked, the border looks ragged, but when the box is checked, the border looks grey. I can get the results I want by filling twice with anti-aliasing turned on, but I would like to have the box "Half-checked".

Photoshop :: Way To Do Some Anti-aliasing On My Drawing

Nov 9, 2004

I'm looking for a way to do some anti-aliasing on my drawing. I have a drawing that I scanned in and I cut out a few components of my scan in MS Paint. I did this by drawing the outline manually in one color and then coloring the background with that same color and then copying it with that color as the see-through color. The problem is that the contours look terrible on a black background since MS Paint can't help with anti-aliasing. Instead, I've got these cut-out drawings of objects with a thin white glow around them. That is, when I cut them out, it was extremely hard to move along the lines EXACTLY. I tended to cut more outside the lines than in, and so I took a lot of the white background with it. I need a way in PhotoShop to get rid of those white lines and then do some better anti-aliasing. How can I do this?
