Oct 15, 2008every new image opened in CS4 opens as a maximized window, with portions of the image hidden behind the right-hand panels ... and so for each new image, I must execute the menu sequence Window - Arrange - Float in Window, then re-size the resulting window.
Is there any way to set my preferences here as a default?
Saving my workspace doesn't do it.

Jan 28, 2013When I am editing a picture in Photoshop, I use a lot of keyboard shortcuts for curves, hue/saturation, etc. but I get frustrated that the box shows up right in the middle of the screen, over the picture I am trying to edit. This makes me have to move it out of the way with the mouse to see what the changes will look like. Is there a way to have it default it popping up to a corner of the screen or even a way to move it without having to grab the mouse?. It is my #1 Photoshop frustration and I figure there is a way that I just can't seem to find it.

When I click on Open File, the window that comes up has several default columns (FileName, Date, Size, etc).

I can right-click on the tab bar and add "Date Modified" to the tabs, but I would like to have "Date Modified" be a default column whenever I open the file selector (and no matter which folder I open up).

I cannot find a way to do this. I want to know the last date I modified a file, not when it was created.

Jul 19, 2012I work with OpenEXRs 3D renders alot. While they are usually lossless at 32bpc, there are options to save at lossy 24-bit float and lossy 16-bit float with drastically reduced file sizes.(Photoshop still opens them up as 32bpc)

How do these compare to Photoshop's 16bit color? (Which I'm assuming is 16-bit integer?)At 16-bit float, I'm throwing out half the color information, but I'd still have vastly more color information than 16-bit integer? When do I really need 32bpc float? And when is 16bpc float "good enough"?

I do not like the new interface and every time I open a new file I have to go to that drop down button and click "float all in windows".

Jan 18, 2009The program seems to run fine except that I cannot move or float the panels. They move ever so slightly and lock in place when I attempt to drag them. The only way to get them back is to do a workspace reset.
I am running Vista 32 bit, Nvidia 8600gt, Intel core 2 duo 2.33hz, and 4gb ram.
I have the Production Suite CS4. I can move panels in every program but Photoshop.
I have reset the configuration folders, tried a selective startup in msconfig and reinstalling Production Suite.

Nov 17, 2008This feature sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. For instance I just opened two photos and tried to use Arrange Docs clicking on the side by side choice. Nothing happens. Tried this several times.
Then I hit F three times to cycle through and get back to normal view.
Tried Arrange Docs side by side once again and it worked.
Shut down PS Cs4 and opened it again and brought in the same two pictures and Arrange worked right away.
But I know it will fail again as it has on many occasions in the last few days. I can't predict when it will work.
My video card does not support GPU. It's an Invidia GSX5500. Could that be the reason?

This works great. However when I close the open files and open some more
CS4 has lost the settings I had. Is there somewhere to make it default to
'my' settings - always do the same as last settings. For example 'float all in windows' would be the default to always open new files instead of tabbed always opening first.

Aug 5, 2009I recently got CS4 version of Photoshop and now I'm having a weird problem with the "Arrange Documents" navigation.When I installed PS the dropdown menu worked like it should, but suddenly without any warning it started to like this:As you can see it doesn't show any icons on the menu.. just blank dropdown. I works correctly though f.ex.
I can choose any option I want, but it's so frustrating trying to navigate as "blind". I've tried looking through the preferences about interface and so on, but haven't found help from there. Also I tried uninstalling and re-installing the hole software again. The result was that when I opened PS for the first time after re-installation it worked like it should be (I could see all the option like I should), but as I turned off the computer and opened it the next day the situation was this problem again.

Photoshop :: Wire Removal On A 16 Bit (Half Float) EXR File Format
Apr 10, 2012This query is with regard to a Wire-removal/Touchup process in dealing with16Bit(half float) EXR files. Here is the process we adopted.

- Opened a 16Bit (Half float) Exr file in Photoshop, which showed it as 32Bit file
- Since the footage has lot of fire/blast elements among which we need to erase a "WIRE", we need to use "Healing Brush" which doesn't work on 32Bit files. When we tried to 'Convert' 32 Bit file to 16Bit file directly, we get a 'Washed Out' problem, since the shot is over exposed due to Fire/Blast elements in it. So here is a pipeline we used.

---- Added "Exposure" (Image > Adjustment > Exposure)
---- Set the "Exposure" to -5 (since it is a over-exposed frame, value -5 depends on exposure values of shots)
---- File > Export > Render Video (OpenExr output)
---- Open the above render file in photoshop
---- Convert to 16bit (Image > mode > 16bit)
---- Use any 16 bit tool for cloning (Eg. Healing tool)
---- Added "Exposure" (Image > Adjustment > Exposure)
---- Set the "Exposure" to +5 (Reversing)
---- Convert to 32bit (Image > Mode > 32Bit)
---- File > Export > Render Video (OpenExr output)

After rendering out, we checked the "original footage" with the "output exr" and apart from the Touch-up (wire removal) portion, all other details remain the same. Since this is a high-end hollywood project, (professionals) confirm whether this process is safe.

During the process we found a bug that this process only works, when we render whole footage, meaning if we try single frame, then there seems to be a slight color difference only in the overexposed area.Â

When we opened the client input EXR file, under Nuke it shows as "16 Bit (Half float)" but the same when opened under photoshop it shows as 32 Bit file.

It seems, that the small icon for arranging like two or more open windows (files) have been disappeared in CS 6. I only can arrange them via the drop down "Windows" which I think is one click to much, as I use this feature very often. Is this gone for good or is there a way to bring this icon back?

Since several users, including me, have reported that the top part of the Arrange Documents menu is blank in PS CS 4, I thought it would be helpful to those doing a search on the problem.
As seen in the other thread, removing the NIK plugins fixed at least one user's problem. In my case, it was removing the PhotoKit module from the Automate directory. I've been in touch with Pixel Genius Support about the PhotoKit problem, and they are having their engineer look into it.
Bottom line, it seems that if you're having this problem you might want to start by removing plugins to see if that cures it.

Aug 25, 2013With either Photoshop CS6 or Photoshop CC, opening an unadjusted image of a building and applying Image/Duplicate produces an exact duplicate of the image. If arranging the images using Window/Arrange/Tile All Vertically (or Window/Arrange/2-up Vetical) one of the images will present with a perspective correction. Whichever image that was selected when Arrange was applied receives the perspective correction.
