Photoshop :: High Key
Feb 1, 2007
Does anyone know any filters or anything in photoshop that can turn a photo into a high key photo?
I've come across a couple sites that mention photoshop filters that can do this, but I can't find tutorials ANYWHERE on this, except for a couple on black and white photos .. (i mainly choose color over b&w)

How do I show high level walkways and balconies (in dashed outline) on the ground floor plan in a high volume space?
Obviously I can turn the first floor RCP on in the view and manually draw the information, but I assume these lines won't move if the walkways above move (or am I wrong?). Also this seems slightly wrong given the amount of automation available.

I am trying to import photos from my computer to Photoshop elements 11. It has imported most but wont import some as "file quality is too high". How do I get around this? Do I have to downgrade the quality of my photos? To do editing wouldn't you want the best quality photos to start off with?

I created a graphic to use on the web (72 dpi), client called and now they want to print it postcard size so they can mail it out. The Original image is 480 x 611.
Most of it is just text and a few rectangle marquee boxes to give color. There are three pictures used. What's the quickest way to replicate this? can I just create a new document at 300dpi and drag all my layers(except the pictures) into it from the low res one or do I have to recreate everything?

how they are getting this high of quality out of a GIF? I thought GIF was limited to 256 colors? The gradients and shadowing look great for this file type, and it is 125KB.

I'm using a new Lenovo Yoga 2. The native resolution is 3200x1800. Most Windows applications use scaling to enlarge the menus and other aspects of their user interface. However, Photoshop CC is basically unusable at this resolution because it does not honor the scaling. I have to drop the resolution down to 1600x900 before launching Photoshop CC.

This may seem a simple issue , but i want to make a picture that is 140mm by 170mm using an existing hi res image , i've put the sizes into a new document in ps.
I then dragged the high res photo i need into Photoshop, the photo is 6144pxl by 4113pxl so is very large, but when i drag it to PS it goes really small about a quarter of the size of the new document template, i then drag the image to to my new correct sized document template but i have to enlarge it , which in turn makes it go blurred.

Someone took this photo of me with my phone but the brightness settings were set really high. I have no experience with photography, tried to fix it with picasa or other simple programs moving around the brightness setting but no good results.

Well, now to my Q. My wife works in a print shop and she has been working with PS for a few months. And now she stumbled upon a problem. As the heroic husband I am I promised to help her out. Now, gathering the forces of good I hope for a happy end...(yes I just saw the Incredibles)
She creates a gradient from 0% black to 100% black. The area is an A4 (210x297 mm). When she save this image as a high-resolution PDF the gradient gets striped. Both when viewed and when sent to the rip. Are there any secrets yet to be revealed about the PDF export?

I am running CS4 on an 8 processor, 3 GHz machine with an nvidia fx3700 and a screen that offers 2600 x 1900 resolution. With all this power, the package is much slower than CS3 on a lap top. One can actually see the action of one's paintbrush trailing centimetres behind the cursor.
Well, we can perhaps live with this, with the leaping menu bar and the many other oddities until Adobe fix the thing. However, what isa truly hard to accept is that it is impossible to resize the tool icons, symbols on the tool bars, silly menu stud-type things of floating menu items so as to allow work at high resolution. Drop down menus follow what we have told Windows to apply, and are thus legible. Anything in the application GUI is, however, invisibly small at 2600 x 1900, Even MS Office 2000 - ten years old - allows you to resize the icons and tools, for heavens sake, but it appears that a modern package that is aimed explicitly at people who work with images cannot do so. It all seems deeply retrograde, an instance where 'new' equals 'worse'.
Perhaps I have missed something: so does anyone know how to resize the various menus and tools so that they can be read without a magnifying glass?

I'm trying to prepare an advertising piece and I'm trying to print out a mockup from my HP color laser jet. My question is, how can I get the printout to appear as it does on the computer screen, whenever I print it out now the resolution is really low and fuzzy. I want it (it least the text and other computer generated material like boxes, e.g. anything but pictures) to appear very sharp.

expierence with PS, but am having a hard time making an animation sig. file, that is high quality. First is it simpy impossible? Below is an example of what it looks like in .gif form. It looks amazing under the original tab, but when I save it or go to the optomize tab its looks retarded. I'm adding a high-rez cut out of a character from a game I play. The only animation I want the high-rez cut out to do is fade out. When I add the cut-out to the animation, it screws all the other images as well, includeing simple lightnigh bolts drawn in. I'll post two examples, one with out the character in, and one with it in. Pay attention to how even things that were fine before, get messed up. Do I need to make my cut-outs a .gif file before even putting them in, does that matter? I'm using Adobe ImageReady 7.0. My optomized settings are: Gif, Selective, 256Colors, No Dither, everything else off or 0. Do I have to save it optomized, file size isnt a big deal.
Files:
(Added .2 delay so its easier to see , lightningbad.gif is with the cut out/bad quality, lightninggood.gif is without cut out/good quality)

I'm currently designing a T-shirt for an event. I've made a few shirts in the past and they required about a 600dpi image for best results. However, the image available to me is at 72dpi (comes off a website).
It is from the movie "Team America". I can get the 1024x768 image from the downloads section where the puppet is looking into the fiery background with "TEAM AMERICA" and all else on it. However I need that background ONLY, minus all the text and extras. If anything, just the puppet, but nothing else.
Actually, since the website is in flash, there is an intro where for a brief moment, that very image (when it is blank) appears and everything comes down on it. At that second, I did a Print Screen and captured it. I created a new image in PS at 600dpi and attempted to stretch it. I have a 17" monitor so if I try to view the image as a whole, its at 15% or so, so it still looks good. When I zoom in all the way to 100%, its very blurry. Is there a way to sharpen the image accurately where it won't be noticeable on a t-shirt?
