Photoshop :: Grave Rubbing Technique
Jun 27, 2012
I've spent hours trying to recreate the grave rubbing technique in Photoshop and am getting very frustrated. I'm looking for something like the rubbing of the knight's shield from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (see attachment below).
I just want to display some block letters in the rubbing (i.e. "LOREM IPSUM DOLOREM EST").

Does anyone know what effect has been used on this image?
I've got to try and replace that top picture and can't find anything in Photoshop 6 that seems to match that effect. Anyone know of a filter or similar that I could plug in that might do the same?

I have am image of a map that I have been asked to detail an post to a web page. The map had been drawn out fairly well, but the lines that make up the drawing are jagged. I would like to be able to smooth out the lines so it makes the map more presentable.

I am trying to find out if anyone knows an easy step by step process to make a slide (like you mount photos in) or maybe a negative strip? They have an action at Photoshop for the slide process but the dpi is only 72 and I wanted to use this for a print, can I change the process in the action so the resolution is higher?

I need to know a good technique to make a page have the vellum texture and the shadowy look of an 1800's map as show in the link. I know you can use the burn tool to make shadows but I was wondering if there was another way to make it look more realistic.

I have been struggling to master the style used here by artist Joshua Budich, I have been searching the internet and spending many hours on photoshop the past few days trying to figure out how to add halftone/polka dots in the same colours, like the one used in the Star Wars print and the pattern used on Tyrell.

I would like to know to reduce a photograph to a simple drawing using a minimal number of colors such as 3 or 4, or even black and white. Here are a couple of samples of what I would like to be able to do. Is there a PS filter or technique that will do this type of thing?

The RSS logo is, as we all know orange and has a nice gradient in it. Now, what I'm trying (and failing) to do, is to colour it so that I can get it to match any colour of my choosing. I've tried looking into "Match colour...", "Photo filter" and "Colour overlay" but to no aveil. I'm obviously barking up the wrong tree.

I know some people are familair with this technique where you highlight an image and the picture turns out to be someone/thing else from what was before it was highlighted. Anyone know of this technique? I know it requires the filter/render/checkerboard plugin but I can't find it anywhere. It involves opacity and masking.

However, I ran into the following scenario:We have a big PS file full of pixel art & photographs, some of both are smart objects. We'd like to resize a bunch of them, but need bicubic for some, nearest-neighbor for others.
Is there any way to set sampling techniques for each smart object?(If not, where does one post feature requests? ;D)

I have seen three brush technques to lighten and darken parts of an image, dodge & burn, to enhance dimension (look more 3D):
1. Create a Curves Adjustment Layer set to lighten or darken image, fill it's mask w. black and paint w. white to dodge or burn respectively. Two layers are required, one to dodge, one to burn.
2. Creat a new layer w. Overlay mode and "Fill w. Overlay-neutral color (50% gray) set in the "New Layer" dialogue box. Then paint with white or black to dodge or burn respectively.
3. Duplicate the layer to be modified and use the Dodge & Burn Tool.
Is one method better than the other for non-destructive overall control and ease of use?

So I need to recreate a style similar to this Lexus Photo Montage. Might any of you offer you opinion of an efficient method to get a look like this using Photoshop CS4?
Or does anyone know of a resource with a tutorial on this technique? Perhaps filled shapes with different apply modes on layers above the main image, or even adjustment layers with rectangular masks?

In the upper left corner you will see the word "brush". Along that same panel are three different options that you can choose from to work with. I can't recall the first option, but the other two are "texture" with a word behind it and "content" with a word behind that. Somehow I inadvertently "knocked" these options off and don't know how to restore them.

Toward the beginning of the video when he is playing with the rust picture to get just the rust to show, break that down for me so that I can understand the actual princibles behind that so I can apply it elsewhere.[URL]...
