Photoshop :: Graphic Tablet + Pen
Dec 26, 2006
I'm trying to set the pen i'm using to work with pressure. The brush strokes should become darker as i press harder. I've set the 'shape dynamics' and 'other dynamics' to pen pressure but it still doesn't work.

I was just wondering, is wacom a good tablet for the price? I know nothing about graphic tablets and I am not by any means an artist, but is it a good tablet to start out on? I know it has 512 levels of pressure ( I hope I said that right) and 3048 LPI of resolution and that's about it.

I own a Wacom Intuos3. I could use it for a few weeks, but after that, when using Photoshop, my Cursor wouldn't hover where my pen was.

Photoshop doesnt seem to be able to distinguish between pressures. if i want to draw a simple black line, the first time i draw, it'll come out light grey, no matter how hard i press the "pen" on the tablet. it will only become black after i've redrawn over the
first shape over and over again about 5-6 times, which isnt very normal.
i was wondering if anyone could tell me :
1) where to find all the options related to the tablet in photoshop CS
2) worst case scenario, a complete options-reset, which i was told is reached when pressing "alt, ctrl" and something else, but cant remember.

I just got the new Photoshop CS4 (yay for education editions) and started to work on some pictures.I'm a digital painter and for that I use a graphic tablet (wacom Intuos 3, so actually a pretty good one). At first I was really surprised because PS reacted very softly and smoothly to the pen pressure that I gave with my graphic pen. But suddenly it started to stop reacting to pen pressure and it was as if I drew with a mouse or stamped my pen on the tablet (so no reacting to pen pressure at all, "round ended" edges instead of the "sharp ended" lines etc.). I was really shocked but then PS changed to pen pressure again. After this effect returned various times I figured out that if you give strong(er) pen pressure from the beggining during drawing a line, Photoshop autmatically uses "mouse settings" so that you can work with and without pen pressure when using a tablet. The problem: The difference between pen pressure and no pen pressure is so tiny that it is almost impossible to paint because if you don't touch the tablet like a feather it will go "boom" and you have your numb undynamic lines.I tried to paint a bit longer to get used to it but it is so difficult that I doubt I can really paint with it. It just jumps to "no pen pressure" too fast. I don't know if this also appeared in older versions but it wasn't in my old PS7 and in fact it sort of annoys me. I can't paint like I used to because of this setting...I don't know if there is a bug or if I need a new patch for my tablet or anything else for cs4 or if there is an option to just use only pen pressure.

1. I need to create coloring pages that contain the same thickness lines throughout the entire image and was hoping to do this in Photoshop. Use graphic tablet for this. From my research there is no mention of enabling the same thickness line but rather it appears to be very sensitive to pressure applied and that the lines tend to thicken and thicken according to hand pressure. Can you clarify if my task can indeed be accomplished with the use of a graphic tablet?
Â
2. If so, what will need to be set up for this to happen?
Â
3. Also, I will need to trace a hand-drawn image via the use of the tablet as well. There was mention of some tablets containing a lift up transparent surface for enabling slipping a paper beneath. Is this a usefull and necessary feature for my application?

I'm trying to install a graphics tablet on my computer (Dell, Windows 64-bit), but for some reason it wasn't working with my Photoshop CS6 Extended. I was advised to uninstall Photoshop and then re-install in order to get the tablet to work with it. I have the Creative Suite 6 Design and Web Premium but I only uninstalled Photoshop Extended specifically.
Now that I'm going to re-install Photoshop, I'm unsure what to do. Do I download the trial version of Photoshop Extended and then put in my serial number? Or should I uninstall all of the Creative Suite and then re-install that?

Is there a way to insert a Ai graphic into msWord and the graphic text still be searchable in msWord? I would like the text in my Ai graphic to be searchable once the graphic is inserted in msWord. I have tried different Ai exports, but all come into msWord as pictures. Is there a way to keep the Text Layer in my Ai file searchable in msWord.

I create a graphic in Corel Draw X4 and export it as a .png file. It is a button with rounded corners. It will be going on a black background when put into an iphone app. So as to not have the little white corners show up from the rectangular export window, I made the button on top of a black rectangle, slightly larger than the button. I then selected the black to be transparant during the dialogs of exporting to png. When viewed in an image viewer the black is indeed transparent and does not show up. All looks fine.Â
To test what it will look like when put on top of a black background, I also make a black square and export it as a .png. I then open the black background in Corel Photopaint and then import the graphic into the background image. A siloutte of it shows up with the marque borders but the graphic itself (the colors and contents of the graphic don't). When combined with the black background it just disappears. Why doesn't it just lay on top of the other graphic?

I've been considering getting one of the Wacom Intuos4 or 5 small tablets to use while working in PS. From what I've read they really make editing and, just working in PS in general, much easier.

I just bought myself a new digital pen by e3Works. It is pressure sentitive, giving greater width in response to heavier pen pressure. I don't always want this feature. If I am trying to paint an accurate mask, I might want the width to be consistent, regardless of pressure. This pen does not have a software interface of it's own. Can I make such a change within Photoshop?

Ive been interested in purchasing a Tablet PC for some time.
But one thing Ive always been concerned with is how feasible they were regarding serious art work.
Many Forums discussing Tablet PCs involve working with academic software.
Im trying to gather information from strictly the art side of things.
My major questions would be
1. Stylus Pressure sensitivity: (how accurate is this?)
Stylus response time: (any lag ?)
2: Hotkey assignments:
When the table screen is flipped over to draw, how does one access all those much needed hotkeys?

I've recently bought Adobe Photoshop CS3, I previously had CS2. In CS2, when I connected by pen and tablet, Photoshop would automatically detect and ammend all my brushes so they're sensitive to touch, etc.
However, with CS3, this isn't the case. Photoshop doesn't do anything to the brushes, I've tried the shape dynamics but have failed so far.

I like to use the pen pressure option to get those interesting lines for art with the pen tool. I've been using like that for years. But today, my computer is telling me I can't use this option without a tablet. I'm very confused. Even a couple days ago I could select that option with no problem

I am on the creative cloud and have down loaded and successfully installed PS6. I am a professional illustrator and use the Wacom tablet. My concern is with the pen pressure effect not staying on. I have went to option on PS6 and checked for updates and down loaded them with no results and called support as well .
I went to the Wacom sit as well to check to if my drivers are updated and they are, and called their support as well with no results. I understand that PS6 is a new product and that I may have to wait for patches, that is fine.

I keep getting an annoying crash every few minutes when using my tablet with cs6. I'm running windows 7 64 bit. every few minutes in the middle of work I get a box popping up saying could not reference memory address click OK to close. I've tried making more memory available in preferences and also running the program as administrator but it still keeps happening. A friend of mine is also having the exact problem on his computer when using a tablet.

I'm not able to make "dots" the program recognizes the new location and connects the previous loaction to the new one. But microsoft paint doesn't do this.... is there a setting in pshop and I can change to make it work more like miscroift paint?
