Photoshop Elements :: Creating A Transparent Background?
Jan 23, 2014
recently bought a copy of Elements 11. I have an image with a solid white background, which I want to change to a transparent background. I just can't seem to work out how to make the solid white background transparent. I have saved the image as a PSD, then used Magic Extractor hoping that I could highlight to retain the image and then 'highlight' the backround to become transparent, but it does not seem to work that way.

I have photoshop elements 7.0 and I am having difficulty making making a photo with a transparent background. According to the tutorials I watched, I am supposed to bring the desired photo which I do and can be seen on the right in the layers box dialogue. Then there I create a copy which is "unlocked" which shows up on my screen. Then, I select the brush tool and I select the areas of the photo which I wish to make transparent and then hit the letter "D" on my keyboard, or the delete button. Although the background is seen gone in the photo in my layers box, the background is still shown in my photo on my screen. The perforated lines are seen and although I keep pressing the D button it does not work.Â

I created a .png file from our organization logo. I used the magic wand to select and "delete" the backgound, leaving it transparent. However, when placed on our web site, the logo edges have a slight line. What must I do to not have the lines (to make the background truly transparent)?

I'm wondering if there is a simple way to create a 1 pt. border on my transparent background. I want this as a "cutting guide", but my "inside edit/stroke" is not working on the transparent b/g.

No I have a drop shadow on the image and when I save as a gif for one the image get's muddy and the drop shadow dose not overlay right. Is there a way to do this? I've played around with the options while saving and I haven't hit on the suloustion. Basically I'm looking to save this file for a website with the best quality posible with no background in the image.

I have a private project to add some Swedish text to my artwork. I need this text to have a transparent background so my artwork shows through and be editable. I don't have a Swedish keyboard.
I have received the text as a word document but when I copy and paste onto a new layer I don't know how to successfully get rid of the white background, and for it to be editable (need to change where line breaks are).
I could retype the text myself within PSE as there are only four characters that are specific to the swedish language, can these be created and added to whatever font I select and then create shortcuts to use them where appropriate?
I am currently using PSE9.

I am looking to crop some pictures and make the background transparent. This is one of my pictures below. The problem I am coming across is with it being see through, I cant seem to just pick and grab the blue rods, golf balls and clips they are sitting on. It seems to want to pick up everything including the gray background. I heard photoshop would make this possible. is this true? Also, what program would be the best for me? I want to spend the littlest i can. I am looking at the adobe photoshop elements and premier movie element 10. Would this work? Any good video describing how to crop and make the background transparent.

I want to create a transparent text on a solid color background, and I need text transparency to go all the way to through the image (i.e. do not show the solid color background). I have the transparent background layer, the solid rectangle layer that occupies part of the image, and the text layer (with text element) on the top of the solid rectangle layer. How do I make text transparency to go all the way through? Here is a similar example for Photoshop CS, only in my case, the background layer is transparent (i.e. there is no picture): URL... Basically, I need to make the letters see through, so they show the background color on which the image will be placed. Is it possible to do in Photoshop Elements? I'm using version 9 on Windows 7.

I am fairly new to PSE and I want to create an oval vignette in Photoshop Elements 10 with transparent background for printing on white paper using MS Publisher. Using the white background on inverse selection makes a slight line impression and either it should have a defined "frame" or nothing.

Currrently, we print floor plans to pdf's, open them in Photoshop and make them part transparent and part semi-transparent so that we can overlay them in various visual tools. Â Is there a way to create pdf's or images where the background is completely transparent and and solid patterns within the floor plan that are semi-transparent?

I was asked to cut out the background from a logo to make it transparent so the logo would look nice on a variety of backgrounds. I've been given a good quality jpeg file.
What I did was I selected (by colour) the background (white), inverted the selection, copied it and pasted as a new image.
It's all fine (the logo itself doesn't have any other elements) but there's still some whiteish/greyish outline around certain elements of the logo.
If I were to do it manually, it'd probably take ages. What would be the best way to accomplish it?

I am trying to create a transparent image for a webpage, it's simple enough to do using the 'Export Transparent Image...' wizard under the 'Help' drop down menu in Photoshop, only problem I'm experiencing is if I try exporting it as a Gif the quality is degraded substantially....
if I export it as a PNG, the quality of the image stays in-tact but doesn't appear properly in Internet Explorer (PNG transparency doesn't display properly in IE). The image I'm saving has two layers, first being the transparency base, second layer being the actual image.
The image (layer 2) has a drop shadow, if i save it as a gif with the transparent background, the drop shadow isn't saved. If i save it as a PNG - the quality is great, drop shadow displays nicely, but again, IE displays this ugly blue color where the transparency is supposed to be.
Is it possible to save this image with the background being transparent as a gif without losing the drop shadow of the image?

I'm having some issues with creating transparent gifs. I am creating a box with a single color in it w/ the opacity of 30% but when I save it as a gif file, it makes it completely opaque. I would like to save it as a gif but still making it somewhat transparent. Is this only possible with PNG files?

I have a file with 2 layers, one (Layerone) that is blank, i.e. no fill or anything. The other layer (Layertwo) has text. I save the file as a .gif, select transparent, select matte as none, and keep getting a white background when I upload the file to my website.
I also tried copying the text Layer to the clipboard, creating a a new file with the background set as 'transparent', then pasting the text only layer into the new file. I still get the white background when I upload to website.
It can't be this hard to get a transparent background. What am I doing wrong?
