Photoshop :: Creating A Transparent Image...

Feb 4, 2007

I am trying to create a transparent image for a webpage, it's simple enough to do using the 'Export Transparent Image...' wizard under the 'Help' drop down menu in Photoshop, only problem I'm experiencing is if I try exporting it as a Gif the quality is degraded substantially....

if I export it as a PNG, the quality of the image stays in-tact but doesn't appear properly in Internet Explorer (PNG transparency doesn't display properly in IE). The image I'm saving has two layers, first being the transparency base, second layer being the actual image.

The image (layer 2) has a drop shadow, if i save it as a gif with the transparent background, the drop shadow isn't saved. If i save it as a PNG - the quality is great, drop shadow displays nicely, but again, IE displays this ugly blue color where the transparency is supposed to be.

Is it possible to save this image with the background being transparent as a gif without losing the drop shadow of the image?

Photoshop :: Creating PNG With Photographic (transparent) Reflection?

Nov 5, 2012

I'm trying to create a PNG file that maintains its reflection which was captured in-camera. The end result would be that the PNG could be used over any colored background (easy for the object) and the reflection takes on the color of the background (not easy to achieve if you can't multiply the reflection over a colored background).

The image was shot on a white background but needs to be able to fall on any color. It would be easy to use the path around the object to isolate the background to a new layer and simply set the layer to Multiply. I realize that, but these PNG files could end up being used by anyone, and they may not have Photoshop, but rather - Powerpoint.

I've developed a process that does this to a degre, but I end up with a white halo around the feathered edges of the reflection (not shown in the example above - see below).

In the shot above, I've split the (very subtle) reflection in a layer set to Multiply, seen to the upper left along the edge. To the lower right is the same reflection with a white hazy halo bleeding into the feathered edge, and this was generated using the process below. Remember, everything is shot on a white background so the reflection has white feathered into it. I'm like this close to desirable results, but the haze has me stumped.

Here's how I got the right side to be transparent without using Multiply, and saving as PNG. Anyone who opens the file should be able to place it over any color background, supplied to them in PNG format.

1. Using high res JPG image, convert "Background" to Layer 0.

2. Activate Path 1 as selection, invert selection and copy all area around product. Paste that copy to new layer.

3. Using same selection, delete all area around product in Layer 0. Now the product is on a separate layer from the shadow and reflection.

4. Duplicate reflection layer and invert. Turn off all other layers. Go to Channels pane, select Blue channel - Command-click channel - Copy.

5. Return to Layers pane and add layer mask to reflection layer. Delete duplicate layer from step 4.

6. Go to Mask pane (CS5) or Properties (CS6) and click on Mask Edge. Slide the Shift Edge parameter to +100.

7. Run Levels on reflection layer - set the Input mid to .96 and set highlight Output Level to 250.

8. Select background image area using mask - subtract subject from selection using path and run Exposure on reflection layer from menu command: Image/Adjust/Exposure: -0.24, -0.15, 0.70. (Using an adjustment layer for Exposure will not work. It saves to PNG with a different outcome when reopened)

9. Set reflection layer opacity to 60%.

Photoshop :: Creating A Semi-Transparent Graphic

Nov 14, 2004

I have Photoshop 7, FlashMX & FireworksMX available to me.

I am trying to create a graphic that appears as a semi-transparent canvas (about 300 x 200 pixels) upon which some solid text and images are overlaid,

How do I create such a graphic?

What file format can such a graphic be saved as? i.e. can the layers be merged or not?

Can such an image be exported into FlashMX?

Ultimately I want these images (there will be many slightly different versions of this basic design) forming info panels that will pop-up in an interactive FlashMX Movie. The pop up will be triggered by a roll-over.

Photoshop :: Creating Smooth Edges On A Transparent

I need an image on my website with a transparent background. I first tried creating this as a gif, but it looked horrible over my website background image. Then I tried saving it as a png, which looked much better, but it has jagged edges. What is the right way to create a transparent image in PS so that it will have smooth borders? It is basically a circle, about 60 px wide, with a solid color in the center and a border of about 2 px. Nothing fancy. It looks perfect in PS but once I embed it on my page over the background image, it looks a mess.

Photoshop :: Creating Transparent Text Within An Object

Jul 5, 2009

I have been trying to figure out how to create text within another object that blends in with the background (behind that object).

If you notice the "two plus three equals" portion on the top left of the 5 blends in with the color of the shirt (so if the shirt was red or blue, the "two plus three equals" would show up as red or blue instead of yellow). How do you do this in photoshop? I've been trying to find a tutorial on this for a while, but to no avail.

GIMP :: Creating Semi Transparent Text

Jun 18, 2012

How do I get started creating semi-transparent text? What I am looking for is text which you can "see through" the reduced color (not text which is bordered and otherwise entirely "see through".

I have got as far as creating some text in a document.

I looked on Google and it pointed me at the Layers menu and then "opacity" which I don't have on 2.8, so I guessed "transparency". It won't let me "Add alpha channel" (which I thought I had to do) so I made the text colored (which I want in the end anyway) and tried "Color to Alpha" but no matter what I do I can't change it in any way with the dialog boxes that open. Which Means I may be chasing the wrong dialog box anyway, but although the labels are very good, the terminology means nothing to me.

In the end I want to be able to create a series of short phrases and have them overlapping in a text design, being able to "see through" the overlap to some degree.

VideoStudio :: Creating Transparent Backgrounds For Overlay Track?

Jul 27, 2011

I am making a montage of previous logos for a piece of software. As one can guess there will be a lot of pieces I want transparent. The montage will be a moving animation-like video, making it look at though you are moving towards the most recent logo.

I have created .png files of each logo (exporting from CorelDraw 11) making their backgrounds transparent. I then drag and drop the clip on to an overlay track. (I used an instant project and it came with overlay tracks which have an option checked called "Apply filter to Alpha channel," With the "Apply filter to Alpha channel," option checked I set the overlay track to fit the screen and then click the maintain aspect ratio. At this point all the places where the original picture isn't is transparent, but not the background of the picture. I'm making the overlay track size the size of the screen so I can have the logo move across the screen within the picture-in-picture filter which I then add to the overlay track. When I customize the PIP filter I have the logo fade in for the first half second or so in the middle of the screen, then move and tilt to the right or left (I alternate every other logo). At this point I think that the "Apply filter to Alpha channel," is still on, I then create a chroma key with the adjust colour similarity at 100 to make the background of my image transparent (I'm not sure why that part isn't automatic; I'm using two Corel products and I have created an alpha channel in the .png file so that as soon as I put on the timeline it should be transparent, but that doesn't happen, it goes back to the colour I originally made transparent in CorelDraw). Once I have created this chroma key, the space that was originally transparent due to the "Apply filter to Alpha channel" option, goes black. (this area is the spaced enclosed by the extents of the overlay track size and the edge of the .png file). When I right click on the logo in the timeline, there is no option to "Apply filter to Alpha channel" which I guess means you can't have a chroma key and this Alpha filter on at the same time. To remedy the black space I go to the transparency slider and set the value to "1" which gets rid of the black immediately and doesn't seem to make the rest of the image transparent at all (I'm sure technically speaking it does but 1% transparency isn't enough to notice in the .png file).

And now, the problem:There is a white-ish boarder at the edge of the .png picture. and try as i might, I cannot get rid of it. It really ruins the transparent effect. Is there a way to remedy this? or a better way of getting the effect I want which doesn't need to use both the transparency and the chroma key? I've just thought of making a really large .png file with the logo at its center and zooming in quite far in, so there is a white back ground wherever i move the logo and then using a single chroma key to get ride of the background.

[UPDATE]It is the NewBlue PIP that is creating this boarder even when you turn off all boader, shadow and reflection there it is with the boarder of the transparent portions. I also tried rendering this portion to see if it still showed up and its still there even after rendering. Also my idea of making a large picture didn't work, you can't go bigger than 100% when in the PIP editor so the border is still there, closer tot he edges of the screen, but still there none the less.

GIMP :: Overlay Portion Of Image With Faded Map With Non-transparent Part Of Second Image

Apr 4, 2012

I have a PNG image with only one layer as a start point. It has a faded map on it.

I have a second PNG image with a hex grid on it. I do colour to Alpha to establish transparency on the hex grid for white filled hexes (others are not filled with white).

Now, I wish to overlay a portion of the first image with the faded map with the non-transparent part of the second image.

So I select by colour (for the hexes not filled with white) on the second image (the overlay) and I then paste to the first image (after creating a transparency layer and selecting it to receive the overlay).

I see the desired overlay section (minus any transparent stuff as expected), however it is centered over the map in the first image, not where I want it to be. It is a floating selection and must be anchored. So I select the anchor icon in the layer dialog and I think I anchor it into the transparency layer on the first image (that's what I'm trying to do anyway).

And then my problem:

I want to move the thing I just pasted in to the right place with respect to the underlying faded map. I attempt to use the move tool, but all I move is the background map (pretty much the opposite of what I want).

Nothing I do seems to let me reselect the pasted-in overlay so that I can move it.

Why I can't ever reposition the pasted in overlay? It should be in the transparency layer I created but even if I select all, I don't seem to be able to move anything other than the background image.

Photoshop :: Transparent Image (GIF/PNG)

Mar 22, 2003

I'm using Photoshop 6, I use the save as web image thing, and I can't get a proper setting for a .gif export (they all look like crap, the drop shadow defaults to a flat black color). So I tried a PNG 24, and it keeps the drop shadow looking nice, but it adds a background color in place of the transparency.

Photoshop :: CS6 - How To Make Image Transparent

Aug 27, 2013

There are times I have to use the 32bit version of CS6, because the plugin being used can't be used in the 64bit version. But the last two days, this error started up out of the blue. This is the error popup I get, verbatim "Could Not Complete the Browse In Bridge command because Photoshop was unable to find the Javascript plug-in"

This error doesn't happen with the 64Bit version, nor does it happen in CS5 64 or 32bit, and not in CC 32bit (downloaded the trial to test to see if it was a 32bit compatbility problem) and none of these cough up this error.

I haven't copied or deleted any parts of Adobe or any files in any of the program directories. It happens in Photosho I try to Browse in Bridge from Photoshop, not if Bridge is already open.

And yes, I know Extension Manager CS6 no longer supports Bridge, but I wasn't using it. This error just started yesterday. Been using the 32bit version of CS6 for certain plugins for over a year. Again, haven't deleted or added anything.
