I have used Elements 8 for many years to organize my thousands of photos. I know where the catalog file lives on my laptop and it has an extension of .pse8db.
I would now like to use that same catalog file as I move to use Lightroom so that I don't lose all that data.
I believe that now it needs to be .lrcat.
What process do I need to follow in order to upgrade my catalog from Elements 8 to Lightroom?

I have been using PSE 8 for a while, and recently installed the version 11 trial copy to see if it made sense for me to upgrade. Everything seemed to be going OK (PSE 11 converted my PSE 8 catalog OK etc.) until tonight.
A few minutes ago, I tried to open up version 11 and it gave me an error (#6) that said there was a configuration error and I needed to uninstall and reinstall version 11.
So, I uninstalled version 11. That seemed to go fine.
However, before trying to re-install version 11 I decided to play around with version 8 for a while. Only now, every time I double-click on my PSE version 8 shortcuts (one for the main program, one for the organizer), I get a screen asking me to agree to the Adobe software license. I click "accept" but then the license screen just goes away and the program never starts.

I recently had my hard drive begin failing and had a new drive installed. I am trying to find out how to download PSE8 onto my new drive. I also need to reload Lightroom 4, which I have a disk for, but I keep getting an error 1935 when trying to install it. I thought I would just go to the Adobe site and download it too, but besides the same problem I'm having with downloading PSE8, my Adobe info only listed PSE8. My records show I registered Lightroom November 2012.

I've recently gone on to Photoshop 7 from Photoshop 4. Photo images appear much darker (photographically speaking about a stop) than they did in P4, or in my batch browsers or in trial versions of Elements or paint Shop Pro that I have tried. It only seems to apply to P7. I can't find a way of altering this without messing up the display settings.

I am using an image for floor in a 3D model. In the render you can see the repeating pattern of uneven brightness from 1 side to the other. Is there a technique that will even out the brightness across the image left to right or up and down.

I have Photoshop 7 installed and it's been working fine.
However all of a sudden i started having problems with the way PS opens images.
Say I take a picture with a camera, review it in Irfanview, and the decide to play with it in PS. The problem is, that the image look different in PS, than it looks in reality. I simply drag and drop the image from the folder into photoshop, and when it opens up, it's a lot brighter than the original, almost washed out.
Sample attached.
Does anyone know what the problem could be? It wasn't doing it before, it started suddenly, without any modifications to PS or the system (that I know of). I've tried reinstalling PS but no help.

I'm trying to adjust brightness/contrast and saturation over about 30 layers on an animated GIF. Everything looks great until I do a save for web and click on the animate box. At that point, the color/changes drop off completely. It shows up fine when it's just the one layer being shown. And it seems to be showing up on all the layers when I'm in the main edit window. I keep looking and making sure I have the 'this adjustment affects all layers below,' and I do. I even tried saving a GIF with the other setting turned on and I got the same thing.
Anyway, I exported a few GIFs, thinking maybe the adjustment layers would kick in as it saved, but nope. Neither layer saved into the exported GIF.
I'm sure this is just a simple setting I'm missing, but I'm banging my head against the desk at this point.

The LR4 Print module has the ability to apply a brightness correction to data being sent to a printer to compensate for having a too-bright monitor. That's fine. Now, if I use the same images in the Book module to be sent to Blurb, must I create Virtual Copies of each image and manually increase the Exposure of each image to achieve the same effect. I would think that if I do not do this, the pictures in the book would appear dark just as my printer pictures appear dark if I didn't apply a correction.

When I export an image it apears slightly less bright outside of Lightroon than it does in Lightroom. This includes web browsers. Am using identically calibrated NEC 2090uxi monitors. Most of the time upping the birghtness by +5-10 will correct this. Occasionally the vibrance needs to be raised in addition. What might account for this?

I'm importing RAW files straight from a CF card reader into my network storage drive via LR5.3. While reviewing as it imports initially each image looks great but a few seconds after it loads onto the screen it seems like LR applies a bit of extra brightness and lessens the contrast and I lose a load of detail that was there originally. I've not touched the import settings and no filters are being applied by myself on import.

I am able to change the brightness/contrast for part of an image by using, for example, the Rectangle Select tool. I want to be a little trickier though. I would like to use the rectangle select tool, but have the effect of the brightness/contrast apply 100% at the bottom of the rectangle and say 10% at the top, with gradations from 100 to 10 from bottom to top. Is this possible?

Developing a site for a client and i'm dumping some png's into Flash. The client reports that the images appear lighter then what he'd seen in the comps I'd provided (PSD's). I check it out and he's right! the .png's are noticably lighter than the psd versions. Why are the png's brightness changed when you save it out of PS?
i'm saving as png-24 in 'save for web'.
Is there anyway to correctly save a png and maintain brightness?

How do I use the gradient tool to create a blend from dark to light. I don't mean in terms of different shades of color, I mean in terms of the "brightness" feature you get under Image -> adjustments -> brightness/contrast. Let me explain: I've drawing an areal view of a build with a partially domed roof. I have a pattern that I filled it with, and now I want to add light and shading. I'd like to be able to do this by combining the effects of a gradient and the "brightness" feature mentioned above. The gradient tool alone will overwrite the pattern already filling the roof with a certain hue, and the brightness feature alone will only adjust it to one uniform shade of brightness throughout. How do I combine the desired aspects of each tool? Does my question make sense?
