I am trying to move a feathered photo (using cookie cutter) from the Elements screen to a colored page word document. I can move it OK. It is feathered. But it still has a square white background surrounding the feather. When I look at the Layer panel , the transparent added layer is showing nothing. The selection did not appear on the layer. But the background is feathered.

Thus far I have tried channel selections and the calculations tool + all the normal quick selection tools and I just cant get it to work without spending hours adjusting things. The end effect I need to achieve is a perfect white background without loosing any of the detail if possible. View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a photo collage by scratch (not using "Collage"). First I create a new blank page for the background and save it. It is shown as "locked" with a padlock. Then I open an image file (.jpg) to add to the background layer, and I get a message that I need to unlock the background layer so I click to unlock it. However the added image locks onto the background layer and doesn't make a new layer. If I open another image file it locks on top of the others.

Why? Or what am doing wrong that would cause this to happen. I recently upgraded from PSE 9 to PSE 12. This was never an issue with PSE 9.

View 3 Replies View RelatedStarted working with PSE and when I tried to "stamp" a brush shape (whether default brushes or otherwise), the program does something it had never done before....SEE ATTACHED. I will create a new layer to use my brush, but when I try to "stamp" it onto background, the program then creates a layer mask where I can see the brush shape AND a new layer, however ALL that shows up on the background is the icon you can see in my screen grab I am attaching here. What is this icon? (The teeny one middle right of image, black square, outlined in red, with two red circles in the middle) I called Apple, we did a few things, they said it wasn't on there end. I reset my tools, I uninstalled, reinstalled, to no avail. Again, I've reset all tools, the "eye" icon on layers panel shows it should be visible, I've tried layers-->merge visible, I've uninstalled and reinstalled.....

When I unchecked constrain proportions and choose reshape, of course the proportions are off on the layers within and when I try to resize each of those layers, they become blurry.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been continually annoyed, when creating a vector mask-heavy document, with trying to select vector mask points by dragging a rectangle only to find that it instead selects a layer higher up which has a larger vector mask.
The only workaround is to manually select the points of my mask or to drag a rectangle from outside the canvas, meaning I have to zoom out or scroll to the edge - sometimes annoying if I am zoomed in quite far.
I know that the move tool can be set to automatically select a layer, depending on what part of the image is clicked, but why is there not an option to turn this off for vector editing?
I have a large psd. The bottom most Layer can be a background layer is it possible to flatten just this layer to make is a background layer as this may make the file size smaller. Im working in PH5 on a Mac.

Pic 1. I have an image I want to use as a background, however the image is not complete. I need a part of pic 2 to fullfill it.
Pic 2. The colors around the object doesn't match the colors of Pic 1.
Normally it would be best to cut the object out. However in this case it wouldn't look nice (the object is mixed out (in color) with the rest of the image). If I cut out something the object won't look "proper".
My question:
How can I blend pic 2 on pic 1, using the original object from pic 2 (as it is), and at the same time blend the colors around it, so that it matches that of pic 1 / or simply remove it somehow?
How do I create a blank layer to be used as my "Background Layer" in CS6? I need to do this action before importing anything because once an image is imported, the image is automatically set as the Background Layer.

Even though I have 0 px for the Selection tool and 0.2 under Select/Modify/Feather, when I fill it it is feathered, quite a bit I might add. However, if I select the brush tool, make a few strokes with a hard brush somewhere, then make another selection and fill it, it's no longer feathered.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a montage of small images with some text at the top. Say four 'oval' images and one line of 'arc-ed' text at the top. I intend to insert this finished monatge into a forum which has a plain coloured background. I wish my montage background to be transparent so that the natural colour of the forum background shows through (this could change out of my control).
The four oval images I want to be 'feathered' so that they gradually fade into the Forum background. I hope this is clear so far! Anyway I seem to manage this in Photoshop and can see the feather and the transparent background OK. Then I merge all layers and then save it as a GIF file. It still looks OK.
When creating a selection in CS4 and then adding the selection as a mask I cannot seem to get around a black background surrounding the selected portion of the image by default.
In CS2 the background surrounding the selection/mask displays as a pattern of small gray and white squares, which I usually prefer for initial review of a selection as a mask. Yes, I can go the mask panel in CS4 and switch background views but none utilize the gray/white pattern as used by default in CS2.
Can this behavior be changed? I've tried manipulating preferences to no avail and cannot seem to locate any options to change the default display options.
I'm trying to find a way to create a rectangle layer with rounded corners. Now, I know that's easy to do, right? Just take the Rectangular Marquee tool and put a feather on it, then do a fill with the paintbucket. Wrong! The feather somehow retardedly doesn't allow the "PAINT" to stay inside the selected area, and fills a slight gradient outside the selection, like so:
The quickest way I know how to do it is....well, really NOT that quick. Here's my steps:
1) Make a circle with the Elliptical Marquee tool and save the selection.
2) Add 4 of these to a selection, making sure they're lined up properly.
3) Now fill in the inside with the Rectangular Marquee tool.
4) NOW PAINT!
