Photoshop Elements :: How To Delete A Keyword From A File
Jan 27, 2013
How do I delete a keyword from a file... permanently? That is, the tags are updated in the file when I write as well. Effectively, when the keywords have been removed, and the file is re-imported, only those keywords I want remain.
This has been occurring for a while, and is quite consistent, but I've never bothered to ask. When I select Find/From History/Imported On, a window pops up with "Delete Keyword Tags" and a progress bar which starts to move. I always immediately hit cancel, and then the "Select one or more groups you imported" window comes up, so I select the date and things work fine.
So what is going on with the "Delete Keyword Tags" window? I've not noticed any tags get deleted, but am I risking losing them if I didn't immediately hit cancel?
I am using PSE 10 in Windows 7 environment. Have thousands of photos and hundreds of Keyword tags and many Categories and Sub-Categories.
It would be nice to have these Tags & Categoris names in an Excel file (or, comma separated text file) that I can use to easily see what Tags I have so that I don't create new tags with slightly different names. Such an easy-to-access and mange Excel file will be very useful, I think, to the overall cration and management of Tags.
I have organized my photos in elements organizer 10, using keyword tags and sub categories on my desktop. It works great, if I want to see all pictures associated with a particular keyword tag, I select it and all photos assoicated with that tag appear.
the problem is this, I want the same scenario to work on my laptop. I realize I can rebuild the structure on my laptop, but why take the considerable time to rebuild, if there is a file that contains the structure info and move it to my laptop.
FIRST, when adding names, places, or events to photos, in Adobe Photoshop Organizer 8, are those tags only saved in the catalog or are they actually appended to and saved with the file? In other words, if those files are copied or moved to another computer, do they retain the information?
Second, is adding and editing tags for a JPEG type file a lossless operation, or does it deteriorate the photo quality?
Over time, I've organized related keywords into various folders for simplicity. I come to find that I don't care for this system and I wish to have all my keywords in a single list without being grouped into folders.
How do I move (not delete) individual keywords out of the folders where they currently are located?
Every time I create a new file from the Editor or delete a file either from the Editor or from Organizer, the program just sits there for at least 35 seconds before I can go onto to my next action. I really would like to clean out some old pictures but everytime I delete a file, I have to sit there and wait.
I have 8 GB of memory, 32 GB of free disk space and a catalog that takes up 73 GB with 29,000 pictures.
Here's the system info Elements Organizer 10.0.0.0 Core Version: 10.0 (20110831.m.17215) Language Version: 10.0 (20110831.m.17215)

Let's say I have downloaded 500 shots to PSE 12. I would like to go through them quickly and eliminate the ones I definitely do not want. How can I quickly tag them or whatever and then with one touch on the delete button delete them all at once?
Under the preferences tab for camera or card reader I see a checkbox which i have selected for Make "Group Custom Name" keyword tag. How is this feature accessed to modify this and use this tag? I cannot find the specific field. Will it show up in the Organizer on the right side with the keyword tags?
I have just installed PS El:11 and convered the catalogue from PS El:10 however whilst all the photo's are showing none appear under the tags created in PS El:10 However all the tags have transferred to 11 but no photos appear to be linked - what have I done wrong and how do I get them linked without going through 4k + of photo's to re-tag them!
When I drag an album name onto an image (or vice versa) in Organizer 12 to add the image to the album I get an error dialog with the message "Error Applying Keyword Tag(s)" and the image is not added to the album.
In the Organizer, what is the difference between image tags and keyword tags? How do I use each? I only seem to be able to find references to keyword tags in any of the documentation, but "image tags" show in the space below "keyword tags."
I have just downloaded Elements 12 using my previous version catalogue of images in Elements 9 however the keyword tags have not come across. How do I transfer them?
I recently upgraded from PSE 6.0 to PSE 12. Apparently, my tags DID move, since I can sort photos in PSE 12 by tag. However, if I right click on a photo which I know has tags (because it was in a sort by tag), the Remove Keyword Tag option is grayed out. I find no way to see which tags are attached to a given photo. On the other hand, if I right click some pictures, the Remove Keyword Tag is not grayed out, and I can see at least one tag that is attached to the file. (I'm using Windows Vista.)
Long, long, keyword hierarchy. Clicking on a keyword takes the focus back up to the keyword filter box. Usually happens if I've used the filter box to narrow down the keywords that are visible. Continues even after the filter box has been cleared. Doesn't happen all the time though. It is a real pain when trying to double click a keyword to edit it as the first click or the double click causes the list to refresh showing only the top entries. The second click (of the double click) then causes whatever keyword is now under the pointer to be keyword to be edited - NOT the keyword under the pointer when I started the double click.
I'm new to LightRoom and am glad to have found this great resource. Onto the issue at hand:
An ongoing office project is using LR3 to catalog 30 years' worth of images gathered from various media. Some are scans of slides, negatives, or prints; others are images straight from a digital camera. We have three people working on this cataloging project. The lead guy has created keywords on his computer that he uses to tag these images. Is there any way to make sure the keywords he's using on his machine sync with and are available to the other users of the image catalog? If not, is there a file that would have to be shared among the three users to make that functionality happen?

If I am in Library module, select filter Metadata, select Keywords from dropdown (no other filter panels selected), and start to scroll down the list of keywords, I can select keywords by mouseclick, and see the matching photos as thumbs in the main window.
However as I scroll further down, I can no longer select keywords - the mouseclick no longer highlights or selects. This happens rather incosnsistently - by which I mean, the point in the eyword list where the select stops working is not always the same place in the keyword list.
If I click several times on the same non-selecting keyword, LR4.4 jumps to taking 50% (exactly) of processor time (shown in task manager) , and the memory usage climbs steadily until all free RAM is consumed.
This is a small (~8000 image) catalogue, with ~2500 keywords, entirely non-hierarchical.
The catalogue is set to optimise on backup, weekly.
I've tried deleting and recreating the preferences file btw to no avail
When i try to delete a file from LR using the delete from disk option the file does not so up in my trash. I have deleted 200 bad files and the never showed up in the trash. I have been trying to clear up some disk space but the available disk still shows the same so I know they haven't been deleted. Am using Lion on a MacBook Pro 15 and am fully updated. Am I doing something wrong?
I have just upgraded from Elements 9 to Elements 11. I have converted all my catalogs and all the images appear OK when I open the catalogs. What does not appear is a list of categories and Keyword tags.how I get these to appear.
On my first two pictures I put the names of the people in the picture as keyword tag. I have tried to remove the tag from the drop down menu but this does not work. I get an error when I auto try to find tags. Do I have to delete both pictures to get this out of the file? Will this remove these names from the keyword tag drop down window?
2. why aren't all my photos with keyword tags being imported with those tags, I see the tags when i look in Microsoft explorer and in version 6 but I don't see them in version 11. 3. In version 6 all the keyword tags were on the left, now the people tags are not shown and I have to press "people" at the top of the display in order to see the people related tags, and then for them, it doesn't show the tags tool bar on the right.
