Photoshop Elements :: Duplicate File Names And The Back Up Process?
Aug 28, 2012
I have recently used back up for the first time whislt replacing my computer and moving to Windows 7. I now have different pictures with the same file name on the back up drive (F:) and the computer hardrive (C:). When I click on a picture the picture inOrgnaiser appears and then qickly disappers and the second picture with the same file nane appears. The first to appear is that on the C drive the second is that on the F drive, the back up drive.
I have many slides, scanned over the past 10 years, with duplicate file names and filed by date. I converted my Elements 9 from PC to iMac and many incorrect connections occured. Is there a way I can correct these connection errors? This problem involves about 5% of my 25,000 photo files.Â
I accidentally included a file rename when I just imported a batch of several hundred pictures. I violated a rule that I teach my own Lightroom students, and that is to look carefully at the import panel choices before proceeding. Â How can I correct this so that the files are named as they originally were? I know how to easily fix the filenames in Windows (using a tool called BulkRename, for example), but then I'd have to "find" each image one-by-one and correctly point to the renamed version. I tried selecting all the images and then using F2 to rename, but none of the templates allow deleting a portion of the filename. Â P.S. Here is an example of what I mean: Â ON CARD: IMG_0001.NEF ... IMG_0300.NEF Â WHAT I RENAMED TO ACCIDENTALLY:
IMG_0001 {shot by John Doe}.NEF ... IMG_0300 {shot by John Doe}.NEF
I have 600+ files with names like: "ad------2~s800x800.jpg" but the photoshop batch process mode is having issues with the filename and outputs it as just "-"
I have upgraded from LR4 to LR5. LR4 allowed duplictes to be imported - one a jepg the other same file name but raw (CR2). LR5 does not allow me to do this. Am I mistaken or am I over looking something?
Many users forget or even aren't aware of the fact that they can't have duplicate names for elements. Or in a long list of elements, they don't oversee which names are already in use. So they try to change the name, but it does not 'stick' (the name reverts immediately to what it was). Â Of course it should be (or become) general knowledge and a good care that duplicate names won't occur, but just like with the prompt that warns for unallowed characters (spaces and all), it would be nice to prompt the user that there's a duplicate name.
I'm trying Frame Generator one last time to design the custom frames we build for our equipment. I've always had problems with getting FG to generate the right part numbers and file names. I have the part numbers figured out, but does Frame Generator still not have a good way to automatically create unique file names for frame members? If no one can get it to automatically generate unique file names, how do you manage all of the duplicate file names generated over time?
I have briefly used 3 versions of Photo Elements (9, 10 and11) and have experienced the same problem in all 3. Scanned images are labeled Image1.jpg, Image2-###.jpg, Image3-###.jpg and Image4-###.jpg. As you noticed, the first scanned image is ALWAYS NAMED IMAGE1.jpg.  Because this is happening on every scan, Elements is giving me the message that the first scanned image in each subsequent scan is already in the catalog (as Image1.jpg). All the remaining images in the scan are sequenced without any problem.  It appears as though Elements places all scanned photos into a temp location under AppData and then enters them into the catalog after the scan is complete. The file names in this temp folder are Image1, Image2, Image3, Image4. Image2-4 have their filenames changed, but Image1 doesn't.  The easiest way I have found to fix this is to rename Image1.jpg after each scan. I have looked around Elements and have no user available procedures to fix this.I am using an Epson Perfection V600 Photo scanner with Epson Scan software 3.83.  I am running Elements 11.
I just installed Photoshop Elements 11 for MAC and the option to change file names is grayed out. ( I am able to change the folder names.). In previous versions of PSE that I had on my PC I was always able to change the photo/file names to the shot dates. How can I accomplish this in PSE 11 for MAC?
My wife is starting a label company - we design the labels in corelx5 then print & cut them out on our printer - but I'm wondering how to autoduplicate the names into each of the labels on the page (a page has maybe 100 labels that would have the persons name in them - same name in each label). Rather than copy things over & over how can I set things up so that I type the name into the first label and it fills all the rest of the labels on the sheet with the same name automatically ?
Do I need a macro for this ? (I'm green to macros)
After taking a large batch of pictures, I want to place them in a folder and rapidly view the full images one at a time to select which to keep and which to discard. IN PE-8 how can I display two panes - one pane containing the image file names contained in a folder and the other pane which displays the image of the file name selected? Using the arrow keys, I want to move through image file names one at a time while displaying the image associated with the file name in the other pane.
How do I change a project file back to a normal .mov file so that I can play it on my iPad or send it to a freind. I have taken out all the bits that I dont want and woukd like to be able to play it as a normal file and not in "Photoshop"
I open a jpeg in Organizer and then move to edit. BUt then I can't figure out how to save it or close it or whatever you are supposed to do. I just got through with one by exporting it so I could use it in a Publisher project, but it's still in Organizer (PSE9) with the infamous red band. I can't get into the editor because it's busy and I have to finish editing. It's like an endless loop.
We have a client with very strict layer name standards for AutoCAD. I have created a .txt file for locating the Revit elements on the correct layers when converting to .dwg files. The problem is the new layers created in AutoCAD during the conversion include a "3D" prefix which we then have to go in and manually eliminate. Is there any way to avoid this, it totally disagrees with the client's naming standards?
I need to change the value of some tags in a title block on multiple drawings. I tried using Lee Macs attribute changer [URL]. It works fine but not when tags have the same name.
I then looked at this code -Â [URL]
Idea was to change the tag names then use Lee Macs program. It too fails when there are duplicate tag names. It changes all tags not just the one I want.
In the the title block I have 3 tags with the name "NAME" but only one will have the value I'm looking to change. If I could place an IF statement some where in the above codes (or another code altogether) to instruct that IF the tag name is "NAME" with value "Dennis (BSL)" then change either the tag name or the value to "Daniel"
Im pretty bad at this programming stuff but with so many drawings I need a easier, automated way of doing this.
I'm using Elements 11. In order to add watermarks to many JPG pics at once, I use the function "Process Multiple Files". Â I select a source folder and a destination folder, and adds a three digit serial number to each file. I do NOT tick the checkbox marked "Change picture size". After that I define the watermark I want printed on my pics and hits OK. All the files in the source folder are processed and saved, with a new name in the destination folder. Fair and square. Â But. The file size of the new file is heavily reduced, compared to the original. It goes from 10 MB down to 500 KB (in general). Why is that? Is there any way I can prevent it?
by mistake I imported (moved) several AVI and MPEG videos into a specific folder that I inteded to use as backup for one of my relatives.  Problem is that my original folders, where I stored these videos, along with specific names regarding genre and/or subject were left intact, with nothing inside them.  I am trying to find a way to "revert" the import process and send those files back to where they belong.
Is it possible in Lightroom to automatically append/prepend directory names in the file path into the file name itself? Example:  DirectoryA Sub-directoryB filename.jpg (original file name)  ==>  DirectoryA Sub-directoryB DirectoryA_Sub-directoryB_filename.jpg (concatenated new file name)  If this is not natively possible within Lightroom, any plug-in that delivers this functionality?
I can no longer change the name of raw files when saving as JPEG. Software will convert to JPEG but only with the same file name. Previously saved files work fine.
i'm currently working on a new website with a friend, we are using Dropout to share the files, he's the coder, and i design. Im using a pc at the moment, and he's on a Mac, when i save my files, they are saved with capital letters, and to upload it in dreamweaver on a Mac they cant have capital letters. So my question is, is it possible to change the file name to .jpg instead of .JPG? And how do i do it?
I'm using Photoshop and the Fit Image command to resize my images for a slide show program. The slide show software does not offer the ability to place the image number anywhere on the image. Is there someway to write an action in Photoshop that will grab the image name and place it where I designate on the image? Even stretching the canvas and filling with black and placing the name there would work. I'm not sure if this is possible or if I need to find an Apple Script to do this.
I would like to customize the names of Places as I assign them. For instance, I know that this set of pictures was take at the House on the Rock in Wisconsin. Under the "Places" tab, it's listed as 5754 State Road 23 in Spring Green Wisconsin. I'll never remember that this is the ADDDRESS for the House on the Rock, so I want to change the listing to something that will make sense to me as I use the column search function (something logical like: "House on the Rock, Spring Green, Wisconsin")  Is it possible to edit the Place tags?
I am printing a program that is half of one 8.5x11 sheet, so I'd like to print 2 programs per sheet - I have resized the canvas of the document to 8.5x11, but is there an easy way to copy all the layers in the .PSD over to the other side of the sheet? I know I could flatten the image and copy it, but I'd like to retain the layers.
First off, I don't mind the save as a copy feature. If I have a psd file with layers and smart objects and such, and I Save As > JPG, I don't want the jpg open, I want the psd open. I like how PS does that behavior, but I don't like how that jpg gets " copy" added to it's file name. Yes it's easy to remove, but I'm using a batch action on over 300 pictures, I don't feel like renaming 300 jpg's. Yes it's supposed to be a safety net, but I basically never work from jpg's as original's, and if for some reason I do, I set them as read only and copy the files off to a safe location, so I don't need it. Â I know it's possible because my old school's computers with Photoshop CS5 never saved jpg's with copy in the file name. So, how do I stop PS CS5 from adding copy to my file names? Because I need Photoshop to not add copy to my file names on my work computer.
I have group photographs and all the people named with People Recogintion on Elements 11. I would like the option to print WITH the names so I can send it to people. Can I do this? Â Ant attempt to capture the picture, say using Snipping Tool, fails as the names just dissapear.
