Photoshop :: Creating A Bell-shapped (Gaussian) Curve With The Pen Tool
Mar 7, 2009
I'm trying to create a bell-shaped (Gaussian) curve in Photoshop CS3, using the Pen Tool, however apparently I am not good enough with it... I can create a curve that resembles a simple (upside-down) parabola, however I can't figure out how to further go from here in order to add the extra inflexions on the sides that make the parabola into a Gaussian curve.
When using the erase tool and trying to create, for instance, a half circle, all I get is a straight erased line.Is it actually possible to create a curve/circle with the erase tool, or is it simply notÂ
I have been working on a project in which I need to curve text. I know how to curve the text via creating a path, path to text, etc. This issue that I am having is that the bottom of the text is distorted. By distorted, I mean the bottom of the text becomes thin and it looks bad.
Here is an example of the issue that I am dealing with (if it shows up).
I have a profile view of a street surface which transitions from a 2.75% grade to -0.52%. I would like to add a vertical curve so I can add a label at the high point of the street. However when I create my vertical curve, the original PVI is still there and the surface uses the PVI's elevation rather than the vertical curve's.
How can I get the PVI to either go away or have the surface read the vertical curve below the PVI?
I am trying to create a coil which from above, retains equal and thus parallel pitches whilst at the same time adheres to a semi-circular form in the cross section. You can see from the images attached that the first two revolutions are larger than the semi-circle outline. Â These are the values I have used: Â Cylindrical
r (t):    134.56924424045517662353735770102mm * t * 0.5 q(t):    1 deg * 360 ul * 3.0 ul * t z(t):    10 mm * 6 ul * 0.5 ul * t * (1.5 * t) * t
I'm trying to create the magic effect found in this image: [URL] Â I tried creating an ellipse and filling it in with semi-transparent brush and use the dents tool on it but its just not... WAVY enough. Is there a plugin or way to add more lines to the lines/curve tool? That would be VERY useful at all times so I can make custom waves/do more things with it.
When using the Line / Curve tool, I tend to cause a line to "finish" because when I try to click on a handle to bend the line, I miss, (due to poor vision)... and the line can no longer be adjusted. Is there a way to cause the handles to re-appear so I can complete the line the way I need to? "Undo" only makes the line disappear, and I have to start all over.Â
Is it possible to get more than 4 nubs on the Curve tool? I know I can use Sin Waves to get curves, but it would be more useful if I can get the curve I need by using the basics.
i'm drawing a logo and have used the line/curve tool a lot. once i have got my basic shape and have rubbed out the lines i no longer need, is it possible to reselect a line and change the curve?
I frequently use the lines/curve tool for filling in large items on the documents (maps) which I update. In the past, I have had no trouble doing this, but I now find that the lines no longer merge into one another, but overlap. I get the same effect when using the paintbrush tool. It is probably something that I am doing incorrectly, but blowed if I know what.
I had actually just used it to render something, and went to create a new path to continue my picture. However, the path tool decided it doesn't like to curve anymore so when I click on the line it simply moves the object. I didn't change any settings between finishing my first path and starting the second. It is still in design mode.
I've also wanted to ask if it is possible to link two anchors together when one of the anchors in question is in a complete path. Like, say I have three lines and anchors forming a triangle, shouldn't I be able to link a new anchor to one of the existing ones? Because I sure as heck can't.
I cannot work out how to consistently go from drawing a straight line to drawing a curve and then back again to a straight line....
The first two steps are fine, but when I go to the third step of trying to draw a straight line after a curve I am having problems, it does not seem to be consistent - I click on the last node which then displays the line next to the pen but if I try to click for a straight line - it makes a curve!
If I use the Alt key and click the node, this also sometimes works but not always and I can't for the life of me work out a way to get it to work in the same way all the time.
One of the things I do a LOT is outline a circular object (in a photo) using the line/curve tool in a separate layer so that I can select the circular thing or everything else. Hope that made sense. Anyway, the thing is not exactly a circular and the line/curve tool works great but it would be nice to have a shape tool that would draw a circle that could be sized/positioned and slightly deformed using nibs (or nubs or whatever) similar to the line/curve tool.
Is there a way to do that with the built in shape tool? Or is there a plugin?
Alright here's the problem, after reading extensively and watching many videos, I finally learned how to crop and layer , which is ridiculously easy! But now I can't get the line/curve tool to make solid connections.
Green Circle: Where the lines meet end to end Red Circle: Where the lines overlap Blue Circle: Where I crossed lines perpendicularly in example of what's going wrong.
URL...But it uses a `Shear' tool in the program to get the curve of the coloured band. I was just wondering which one in PDN would do the same. I have tried sine waves without success and also the waves effect plug in. But neither will give the required effect.
BTW - I eventually managed to get the curve using Sine Waves but had to rotate the bar through 90 degrees first but it is still not exactly the same as the tut. It really needs a shear tool.
I am having difficulty with Gaussian Blur. I created a selection outline in an image and then filled it with black. I then selected Gaussian Blurr from the Filter Menu a set the radius to 100 and then deselected my previous selection.
In CS5 the edges faded into the background image however in CS6 the outline of the previous selection was still visible and the Gaussian Blur did not blend the selection as expected. Even ramping the radius up did not solve the issue as the outline still remained visible. how do i resolve this issue in CS6?
To use Gaussian Blur as an example, how do I apply a Gaussian Blur to Text? I read in a book that I needed to Rasterize the Text but even that didn't work. I almost think my Blur is broken. I appreciate any help I can get.
I'm using photoshop for vision research and am applying gaussian noise to black backgrounds using Filter -->Add noise --> Gaussian 20%. In CS2 a new random noise pattern would be generated each time I added noise to a different black background -- and this what I needed. But in CS3 & CS4, the same noise pattern is generated every time, and I need to have it generating different noise patterns. Is there a switch I'm missing or is this just something that was changed in CS3 and CS4? This issue occurs on my Mac and Windows CS3 and Vista CS4 machines.
We just got brand new systems at work less than a month ago and this event has happened twice since then. When using Photoshop CS5 Extended and using Gaussian blur the file becomes block and all layers as well as their masks become corrupted with these blocks.  Here are my system specs...  Model Name:   Mac Pro Model Identifier:   MacPro5,1 Processor Name:   6-Core Intel Xeon Processor Speed:   2.66 GHz Number Of Processors:   2 Total Number Of Cores:   12 L2 Cache (per core):   256 KB L3 Cache (per processor):   12 MB Memory:   16 GB Processor Interconnect Speed:   6.4 GT/s Boot ROM Version:   MP51.007F.B00 SMC Version (system):   1.39f11 SMC Version (processor tray):   1.39f11
Create a shape with the Rounded Rectangle > I apply a Gradient & Bevel  New Layer > Fill with White > Ctrl + Alt + G (clipping mask) > change Layer Blend to Multiply > Opactity to 35% > Filter > Noise > Add Noise New Layer > Ctrl + Alt + G > Ctrl + Click on the Rounded Rectangle Shape to create a Selection  From there I am suppose to add a Stroke by right clicking on the object but that doesn't work. The only menu that pops up is a list of my layers. So, rather I select the Rounded Rectangle layer and then click Effects and select Stroke and then set the values for the stroke. Next I am suppose to add a blur.  Blur > Gaussian Blur but the Stroke ends up filling the entire object. No, I didn't set the Blur to like 1,000 it's only set to 5.9 . I tried this on an other computer and the same thing happens. I called Adobe but they were unable to assist even get as far as the Stroke.
I want to blur the background of sports photos (still too much in focus even with lens wide open). I put the key player(s) on one layer and the background on another, then apply a Gaussian blur, which gives me a white line where background meets foreground.
I can painstakingly rubber stamp extend the edge of the background about 10 pixels behind the foreground and that seems to work, but it's painstakingly slow. Is there a better way or even a plug-in?
Using PS CS4 on XP. I just got a job back from the printer company & I am noticing some lines that didn't appear on my print out here (on xerox color printer machine) to compare. I didn't really catch them on the proof either, but they used an epson proof and we printed on 100# gloss text stock for the final. Â What I have going on is a gradient background (using shape layer and gradient layer style effect) from a white to a light tan. Top to bottom on a regular Letter size sheet. In the upper right hand corner I have a image of a face that had that same light tan in the background. I faded this image into the gradient background by using gaussian blur.
This is not very noticable in the file, but I can tell that it is there...you have to really focus your eyes to see it, but it's there, a line going around the image where the gaussian blur is. I'll attach a photo of the edge. I guess what I'm saying is it is not smooth - the image edges being blurred into the gradient background, but printed off a regular printer, it looks smooth. Is there anything I can do to prevent this in the future?
As far as I know, gaussian blur is a spatial convolution filter and smart sharpen is a deconvolution filter. So I think that they should be opposite of each other when smart sharpen is at the gaussian blur mode. But we can not remove gaussian blur (applied to a JPEG) with the smart sharpen adjusted for the same radius.
I have a picture has hard edges and I was able to blend these edges using lasso, mask and then Gaussian blur, check attached picture. is there a another way can produce better result or that result is enough ?
